Re: Favourite Movies
Well, my favorite movie of all time would have to be The Princess Bride. I love that movie. I can quote giant snippets from it at the drop of a holocaust cloak.
![]() Other favorites include: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (I do like the whole series, of course, but that first one...I can't help but love it) Repo! The Genetic Opera (I hate the massive amounts of gore, but I adore the songs and the casting and Graverobber is amazing~) Sweeney Todd (again, I hate the gore, but love the songs...can you tell I'm a sucker for musicals?) The Phantom of the Opera (although why she had to pick Raoul, I just don't know )Bad Boys (the old one with Sean Penn--I don't know why I like it so much exactly, but...I do) The Rescuers (I just want to hug Penny for ages and squeal over Bernard and Bianca all the time) And there's more, but that's enough for the moment, I'm sure.

Re: Favourite Movies
Thanks for mentioning Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, Ripper. I should add Manon des Sources to my list. Jean de Florette is a good movie but too sad.
I'd also add The Horseman on the Roof. |

Re: Favourite Movies
It is sad but it makes the second film's outcome sweeter - if such a story can be sweet! Glad you're a fan too.

Quote:
You're right though, it's such a sad, tragic story which luckily ends well for Manon. Another very good French/British movie that never crossed the Atlantic (that I know of) is "Les femmes de l'ombre" (literally, The Women of Shadow - the title may have been inspired by "The Army of Shadows" (L'armée des ombres) that was the story of the French Résistance under German occupation). As the title implies, it's the story of women (in this case 5 of them) who fought from the shadows. It's a true story too, those women actually lived - one of them is still alive, in fact. It's unfortunate that the English title under which it was released ("Female Agents") is rather flat and doesn't incite one to watch it. But if you ever come across it, I strongly recommend it. I'll add that one to my list, too. ![]() |
