It's $100 for the Collectors Edition, and the list price is $12.99 for the Standard Edition, which Amazon has discounted to $7.59.

She won't publish it. They were gifts and an act of generousity. Mass producing these books would kind of counter-act the feeling of uniqueness in her gifts to friends no?

I mean of course we can hope she publishes them. But I wouldn't hold your breathe on it.
^---tehe I guess we could have held our breath's huh?

Anyway, I'm stoked. I can't wait to read the whole story and be able to tie it into the series.

If I had the money for the collectors edition, I would most definitely buy it. I'm going to ask for it for my birthday in hopes that either my parents or boyfriend are feeling extremely generous.

Wow, this is awesome! Conveniently comes out right before Christmas, so I'll have to make sure I get this. Too bad it's not the diamond-encrusted version that JKR sold to Amazon, but the sales wouldn't be nearly as high for that because it was so expensive. This is going to make me even more excited for the Scottish Book!

Re: The Tales of Beedle the Bard book

I've pre-ordered the regular edition. I just knew this had to happen eventually. The deluxe edition would be really nice, and it probably will become a collectors item. Just can't bring myself to spend $100.

Very excited about this. First the teaser/trailer, now Beedle the Bard. Things are looking up on the HP horizon.

Re: The Tales of Beedle the Bard book

I figured they would eventually publish an edition of Tales of Beedle the Bard for fans. This is wonderful news. I will be begging for the collector's edition for Christmas this year. And what a brilliant marketing strategy - releasing it right before Christmas is such a great idea. They'll make lots of money for the charity.

Re: The Tales of Beedle the Bard book

Just remember the availability to pre-order the Collector's Edition was released today and as a disclaimer on Amazon.com they mention there is a Limited Amount (how limited, they don't mention). If you wait until Christmas to ask for a copy there might not be any.

I mainly just want to read the tales and all of Dumbledore's notes on the tales so I purchased the regular edition. As much as I'd love to have that beautiful tiny book, $100 is more money than I could spend.

This is what I posted last December. Yay for hoping!!

I'm so conflicted though - I don't know whether I should get the collector's edition (as the broke university student I am ) or just the regular one. Of course I'd adore to have the $100 version, but in all truthfulness it will probably just sit on my shelf and collect dust after I read it a few times. And those textbooks aren't going to buy themselves.

Valarya - I read in an article that Amazon has 100,000 collector's editions. Although I'm not sure if that's 100,000 worldwide, per country, or what. The article was from the UK, though. Oh and welcome to the CoS!

YAY!!!!

This is so exciting!!! I am so excited for Dumbledore's commentary too! What a treat!

I am conflicted on what I want to buy too. If I get the collectors ed. then I won't want to barely even touch it for fear of ruining it. I think I will probably just end up getting the standard edition, that way I can read it over and over again and not worry about keeping it nice.

OOO and a to Valarya too! Happy posting

Re: The Tales of Beedle the Bard book

I'm glad I'm not the only person to be very very excited and extremely happy by this news. I think I might splash out and get the collectors edition for myself. I was very tempted earlier on, I think I'll sleep on it and see how I feel tomorrow, if I don't go for that then obviously I'll go with the hard back copy.

Wonderful news

If I can ever bring myself to buy the collector's edition for $100, I will keep it solely for display (and possibly open it to see the extra benefits - with gloved hands!) and buy a standard edition for reading. Fortunately, it will be released shortly before Christmas, so I may be able to persuade some relatives to pitch in for such an expensive book (of whose significance they will not understand).

I always had a feeling that, at some point, these fairy tales would be published to be distributed to fans. However, I never imagined it would be this soon after they were created. I expected for the publishers to wait until next year, the year without any Harry Potter, to keep Harry Potter alive. Nevertheless, I have no complaints!
