NCAA Football thread

I'm a sports nut.

NCAA football thread (The American definition of football here). There's already a pro football thread, so we'll keep this to the college folks.

Florida won last year, but USC is the preseason #1 and they looked stacked. I'd like to see Wisconsin make a run (or BC), but I don't think they have National title talent - just maybe top-10 talent.

Chat away!

Appalachian State 34 Michigan 32

I think, "Wow!" would be an understatement.

Yeah, I saw that and went "what?"

Michigan can go two ways from this: completely self-destruct or run off a huge winning streak because they're ticked. Personally I think the latter...and I feel bad for their opponent next week, they're going to get drilled.

Agreed. I watched the entire game, great game.. My team (Notre Dame) got killed tho...

Personally, I think USC will win it all. They are just too good.

Re: NCAA Football thread

Although Appalachian may be a small school compared to the other big North Carolina Schools. They've won the last two National Championships for thier division. They're probably going to have an undefeded season. My Dad who's went to Appalachian said that the game against Michigan would be the only one they'd lose, and they won that! And I'd really wish people would start pronoucing the name correctly App a la chin! la as in lattice And another thing I wish is for ESPN to start talking about how Appalachian won, not how Michigan lost! We were better they didn't play a good game, and my team is amazing! And just because we're small we're not to be underestimated!!!! So yeah go Yosef go mountineers, go party at the rock!!!!! WHOOOOOOOO! and to Michigan fan's good game and don't worry you still have all season to try and redeem yourself. Good luck!

Re: NCAA Football thread

Well my favorite team (Notre Dame) is out, so hopefully Virginia Tech, my second favorite team, will win. It would be great for the school if they won.

Re: NCAA Football thread

went to the wisconsin opening game yesterday. they didn't look that good, but they still won.

i think the loudest moment of the game was when the score of
" Appalachian State 34 Michagan 32 " was shown on the scoreboard.

go badgers!!!

Re: NCAA Football thread

Breaking in a new QB (even if he had some playing time last couple of years) could explain some of it...did the D look OK? The final score was a comfortable win.

Re: NCAA Football thread

yeah, i guess. it was more the defense that was weak.... they just need to play a few more games.

You said it. I am an App alumnist, and I am so thrilled by this win. It is like we won another National Title. I can't believe how great our team is doing, and how awesome they are. I am thrilled to be an App alum, and I have to say that I am super thrilled that we are the first IAA team to beat a ranked IA team. Even if we don't win another National Title, and I sure hope we do, but if we don't then the starting game of our season says it all. Way to go Mountaineers!!!!!!!!

Re: NCAA Football thread

I think Michigan's downfall was taking out their best player. what's his name Hart I think number 20. The guy who was on the work out bike. I watched the rerun of the game, and it was funny when the announcer didn't think App would win, and said they were very well repersented, and I said, it ain't over till the fat lady sings, and they still have 4 mins. left in the game! and it was funny and I heard that the people at Ohio State, who I guess don't like Michigan were very happy at thier lost. And are buying App shirts. I've got 2 shirts, and a sweatshirt on the way and I can't wait! Maized and Confused! I bet they win another championship this year. Unless someone get's hurt. I hope they do well tomorrow.

Re: NCAA Football thread

I feel kind of bad for UM fans right now - the season started with legitimate high hopes, and 3 or even four potential 1st round drafts picks on offense. And now they've gotten first beaten and then drilled on their home turf in two games that 99 out of 100 fans who aren't App State or Oregon fans would have put into the "W" column for UM.
UM can still win the Big 10 (I hope UW takes it ) if they get angry about these embarasments and come out fighting. Play for their own pride, and play for the BCS berth - much like Florida State did a few years back, when they won the ACC but had four overall losses.
So far no other major upsets that I can see - a few minor ones, but the teams that were beaten were flawed anyways.

Re: NCAA Football thread

im sorry, i have no sympathy for UM fans.

it might sound rude, but being a badger fan, well that explains itself.

Re: NCAA Football thread

To me, the most surprising results of the season so far are Appalacian State beating Michigan, followed by Utah beating UCLA. Of course, by season's end, I'll have to revise this list .

Assuming USC goes all the way through undefeated (not a guaruntee by any means; they have a tough schedule) the winner of the UF / LSU battle for SEC supremacy may give them more than they can handle. And that's not even counting if Oklahoma keeps playing this well.

Still holding out hope for a longshot BC or Wisconsin run, but they'd both need to be undefeated with a few other breaks to even get a BCS title shot.

Woot. It's been 15 years I believe but BC's 7th in the AP and 6th in the coaches. Finally back in the top ten. Eagles are so much fun to watch this year.

Both teams certainly have a shot at it. The Big 10 is really exciting this year. While I don't think they are as powerful as a conference as they have been in past years, the teams within it are very competitive- there are several schools that could take it. At this point, I'd have to say the favorites are Ohio State and Wisconsin. Following closely are Purdue and Michigan.

Re: NCAA Football thread

Whoops on the Badgers, but not that surprising...

What do folks think was a bigger upset:
Appalacian State over Michigan; or
Stanford over USC.

By the Vegas line, the latter was a bigger upset. But, I still think the former was the bigger upset.
Thoughts?
