Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

Any other hockey fans glad that they are bringing in a pre-lockout schedule?
That means a team will face every team from each conference at least once per season. I know some of the Eastern Conference managers etc. were opposed to this due to the travel, but in reality how much further from Calgary is Toronto than Detroit? I'll be glad to see action from all the teams instead of waiting for a game once every three years.

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

What is your favourite team?

The Ottawa Senators, baby!

Who are You Rooting For this season?

The Sens.

Who will win the Stanley Cup?

I'm betting the Sens. Last year was so close it was painful...

I'm so freaking excited, I'm going to the Ottawa/Detroit game on Jan 12!

Who is your favourtie player?

Dany Heatley. And Daniel Alfredsson is making his way into my top faves, too. Oh, and Ray Emery. I never use this term, usually, but he's just PIMP. Too cool for words. He gets such a kick out of getting into fights on the ice.

What team needs major recruiting/changes the most?

The Leafs. Haha, I'm so biased.

What is your favourite position?

Center... and goalie.

Good article on Sidney Crosby. I didn't know he was living with Super Mario .

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

What is your favourite team?
Colorado Avalanche

Who are You Rooting For this season?
Avs, Flames, Sens

Who will win the Stanley Cup?
My money's on Ottawa.

Who is your favourtie player?
Paul Stastny, Peter Budaj (he's no Roy, but I've seen him make some absolutely amazing saves), Peter Forsberg (when he's healthy, he's awesome), and even though he won't be in the pros until next year, Peter Manino. He's goalie for the DU Pioneers. One of the best goalies I've ever seen.

What team needs major recruiting/changes the most?
Overall, I think the Flyers need a serious overhaul. They've been pretty bad the past two years. But the Avs need some changes as well. Mostly a new coach. I can't stand Quenneville, especially since he likes to shuffle the roster so often. The Avs need should've never got rid of Bob Hartley.

What is your favourite position?
Goaltender.

Sakic is having surgery on his hernia. He'll be out for most of the rest of the season. Sakic had played 232 straight games before the injury.

Tough luck Colorado.

Just finished watching the winter classic, got to say it seems like an amazing event to attend as a fan. Not the best conditions for hockey but an interesting game to watch.

Yeah the Kings are having a rough season. (again) But they do have lots of promising young talent. They should be a pretty decent team in a few years, assuming they don't trade away all their talent, and I wouldn't put it past them to do that.

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

Trade deadlines coming upon us again. Mats Sundin is being brought up as one of the players to be watching, most of the media believe that Fletcher will be able to get Sundin to drop his no trade so the Leafs will get a valuable return. Around here the media seems to believe Alex Tanguay will be on the move (he too has a no trade).

What do you think the major moves will be this season?

After a horrific start to the season, the Caps are one point behind division leader Carolina after winning 8 of their last 11 games.

All the best to Zednick after that horrific incident last night in Buffalo.

I think Fletcher will do a nice shake up in Toronto. Get rid of some of the bad contracts, make some trades and hopefully pick up some good draft picks.

The Caps beat the Bruins 10-2 last night. Ovechkin got a hat trick and his 50th goal of the year.

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

I'm glad the Blackhawks are doing well. I have to admit that I thought this season would be just like every other season in recent memory, but they've really played well. They've got some good young guys and Khabibulin and Lalime have both played well in goal. They're in the hunt for a playoff spot. They're still a longshot, but even if they don't make it, at least they've gained some respectability. Watch Patrick Kane. That kid has a good career ahead of him.

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

As much as I hate saying it, I think Detroit has the best shot at winning the Cup. They seemed to have a few off years, but they're definitely back now. Since its looking more and more like the Balckhawks are going to miss the playoffs though, I'll be rooting for the Wild. It would be nice to see a true hockey city in the United States win the Stanley Cup.

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

It would be nicer for the cup to come to a Canadian city...except not Edmonton or Vancouver. I'm hoping the Flames pull their act together in this final stretch. Consistency has been the killer for us all season, we have the talent to do well but it seems that at times the drive is lacking.

I think in a few years the Blackhawks will be back to being a great team. With parity in the new NHL not too many teams are able to maintain stacked superstar rosters and standings can change drastically in a year. Last season neither of the Stanley Cup finalists made it to the playoffs from the 2005 championships (Edmonton and Carolina). Plus Kane and Toews are really great youngsters to watch. Assuming smart management decisions are made Chicago could be a contender in a few seasons.

With Detroit they seem to do really well in the regular season, but being an older team they do get run down quite a bit if teams can drag a series out to a full 7 games. To me they seem to either get knocked out in the early going by some cinderella team or they go all the way.
