I think Detroit will take it. Getting to watch more of their games now, it's impressive the team system Babcock has got them playing. The support the offense and defense give each other looks so simple on TV but it really is amazing.

It could easily go either way IMO.
So far Detroit has lost only two games altogether and Pittsburgh has only lost one. Both teams have about 10 pretty good players on their teams and goalie's who have been doing incredible. Detroit has an experience advantage, Penguins have a youth advantage and I think they would be more thirsty for the cup, so to speak.

What makes you think it won't be Dallas-Philadelphia? lol.

Detroit in 6 is my prediction, but I'll be supporting Pittsburgh. Too bad for all the Canadians out there. You haven't won the Cup in a while, but you usually at least send a team to the finals.

Yeah poor us...

Yeah agreed.. Dallas could also be there. I think they've played well this season compared to some other majot blows they've come across. They used to go pretty far and they lost that for a while but it's coming back I think....

I don't know who to support... I'm a loner on these natches I support no one.. yet.....

At the risk of sounding like a Leafs fan: there's always next year... :P C'mon Flames! It would be the 20th anniversary of the 1989 cup win.
Detroit's the team I wouldn't mind winning the cup; it's mostly lingering from my love of Steve Yzerman though. Game 1 of the series was not as exciting as I thought it would be. The first period looked like the game was going to be a tight one, perhaps it was just due to teams that rarely see each other checking the situation out. I thought Malkin played terribly in this game, not as strong on the puck as I've seen him play in the past. I also very much enjoyed Fleury's entrance into the game.
nhl.com has a sseries of commercials out now which are really well done, they've taken clips and kind of lapse them together. The ones I've seen are the lifting of the cup and the play up ice. It looks really cool!

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

It's do or die time for the Pens tonight. It was good to see Crosby show more emotion at the end of the last game. I had some reservations about him being named team captain at such a young age, but I think he's shown that he is capable of stepping up.

I thought this: http://www3.thestar.com/static/PDF/0...ts_revenue.pdf was pretty interesting. It shows that the 6 Canadian NHL franchises account for nearly a third of the NHL's ticket revenues. The Canadian dollar has made significant gains on the American dollar in the past year, but (if the Saddledome is any indication) I think the arenas of these teams are sold out almost every night. I know the Flames have been sold out since the '04 cup run and the Oilers have been sold out for over 100 home games.
Is it time to relocate an American franchise back up to Canada?

PENS WIN 4-3 IN 3OT, Petr Sykora told the sideline reporter during the 2nd OT that he would score the winner and he did!

Good game 6, congrats to Detroit! Now I have to find other things to watch...
I suppose there's the awards and draft day.

Also for anybody who is Canadian (or watches CBC HNIC) the Hockey Night in Canada Theme (the unofficial second national anthem of Canada) may be no more!

A lot of hockey fans in Canada, and even people who don't watch hockey, are up in arms! The general consensus so far is that this is a BAD move by the CBC, and I'd have to agree. This is song is a part of Canadiana!

Yea congrats to the Wings for winning the Cup!!

I am VERY proud of them, I've been a fan of them for years and have been lucky enough to see (on tv) for each of their Stanley cup wins that they've had (since 97') and it never gets old . I get goosebumps every time that they win the cup .

I was so angry at this!!!!! How could this be? I agree.. It's almost like our anthem! Well IMO anyways. This seems very unreal and immature.

I'm angry at this. It kind of showed our pride you kow? Having our own lttle theme...

Anyways good job detroit. The Penguins almost made it an overtime but they missed. Anyways good job. (Go flames go!)

I felt bad for Sydney Crosby though. He was crying after.

But Jarome wasn't disappointed He was a good sport and pumped for next season!

Did you just make that word up or is that an actual term?

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

Which word?

Canadiana? It's like referring to something as Americana, only Canadian. The HNIC theme is an integral part of the Canadian identity, or something traditional. Or at least that's what people are arguing.

Hockey Night in Canada? It's a real night. Every Saturday during the hockey season, 7pm EST. You'll find many people watching the double header (6 hours of hockey!). And on the great day known as Hockey Day in Canada (not an actual holiday, but it should be), they show a triple header, usually all 6 Canadian teams are shown that day.

It is a bit stereotypical that this theme song for a hockey broadcast can unite so many Canadians.

I can't believe the Rangers gave Rozsival the type of contract that they did when they had planned on signing Wade Redden. It's crazy.

Re: The Official NHL (National Hockey League) Thread

It's the July 1st frenzy! There were a lot of stupid contracts given out and this years list of free agents wasn't even that great. I can't believe Finger got the contract that he got and I think Redden's contract is a bit much as well. I guess we'll wait and see what the big fish(Hossa and Sundin) will get, although rumour had it the Canucks offered Sundin a 2 year deal worth 20million.

EDIT:
Hossa has signed a 1 year deal with the Red Wings worth 7.4 million.
