Re: Golf

Tiger does have a chance. You are right, this is a US Open. The scores will not remain this low. The only problem is he is going to be going back out when the bad weather may start kicking in again. If he were to win, it would be close to rivaling last year's amazing finish.

Re: Golf

He had his shots and came agonizingly close, but it wasn't the duel with El Pato in '07.

Of course, then he bounced back with a gritty win at Congressional which makes him a favorite at Turnberry. Hmm. Well, if he can ever get all three nonrescue phases of his game together at a major, he'd be hard-pressed not to run away from the field. For instance, this week his putting and irons were good and his driving was really improved on both distance and accuracy everywhere but holes 1 and 11.

Re: Golf

What a lot of weirdness in the last month. Tiger has a terrible stretch on the back nine at Turnberry and couldn't buy a putt on that front nine--leading to an MC instead of contention. Then he plays all sorts of spectacular scramble golf for a win at the last Buick Open, and then he has a brilliant stretch in the latter third of the WGC Bridgestone (61 from the back nine of round 3 through the front nine of round 4). Too bad that them being on the clock played such a crucial role in the result--I think Tiger still could have and probably would have won outright, but it would have been a 1 or 2 stroke victory instead of 4 strokes.

Re: Golf

Wow. Congrats to Y.E. Yang on winning the PGA Championship. I kept thinking for sure that Tiger was gonna come back and retake that lead. That eagle of Yang's on 14 was unbelievable. Very entertaining.

Re: Golf

I was sure it was going to be a two horse race between Tiger and Harrington untill Harringtom got his quintuple bogey. After that I thought it was Tiger all the way, Y.E. Yang played some great golf to win it though

Re: Golf

I used to play golf, but, was never very good at it. I guess that's why I enjoy watching the pros. They do all of the things that I always wanted to be able to do.

And the song remains the same at Cog Hill--though this time, it appears that Woods has his game fairly together and is making measured strides up the leaderboard. If he can keep it together, he has a spectacular chance to win the BMW (I know, I know, an animated Iago-level non-surprise).

Re: Golf

Wow, no one posted on this thread for over two and a half years? We missed the rise of the Irish, Tiger's injuries and personal debacle, and the reemergence of the parity that everyone had started griping about before the '97 Masters? Really? Wow.

Re: Golf

And since I last posted, Tiger has won 3 times in 2013, reclaimed #1 in the world, and is the odds-on favorite for the Masters because he has been putting exceptionally well in spite of embarrassingly inaccuracy off the tee. Smart money was supposed to be on Rory taking the positive momentum from the last round and a half at Doral to win the what is it...the Shell Houston Open and wrest #1 back from Tiger, but he had another roller coaster to end at 1 over nine strokes behind the first round lead.

Tiger missed at the Masters (the infamous drop and a lot of final round missed opportunities) and unfortunately Steve Williams was on the bag for Adam Scott.*gags*

However, Tiger rebounded to win the Players for the first time since '01. Memorial should be interesting this week.

Re: Golf

First time in my life - friday night I want to a driving range. I think I am treating golf a bit like hockey (or hurling/camogie more likely) but it was such good fun. Never mind the blisters!

I can't imagine though I'd ever sit down and watch tournaments. I can see if you were there in person it would be more exciting, getting into the swing of it, but just watching it on TV, definitely not the same.
