Re: Favourite Action Scene

Many scenes during the Battle of Hogwarts, especially when Voldemorts clothes wraps around Harry and strangles him. Looked very creepy and well done. The fight between Snape and McGonagall was very good aswell.

In DH1 it would be the café scene and the snatchers scene, so i totally agree with TheScribbler.

Theres alot of great action scenes in every movie - i really like the basilisk fight in CoS btw - but i cant bother to mention them all.

Courtyard Apocalypse BY FAR! So amazing. I tear up every time I watch it.

Re: Favourite Action Scene

My favorite action scene was in the Deathly Hallows part 2, in the Room of Requirements, where Harry rescues Draco from the giant fiery monster from within its walls! >:3 Draco's face was priceless. His expression was simply to die for when he reached for Harry's hand, his only escape, as forced as it may have been to his own principles. I look back to that scene as the forgiving nature of the human race to others who need forgiveness.

Re: Favourite Action Scene

My favorite scenes all involve Bellatrix Lestrange.

1.) "Order of the Phoenix" -- the battle between the Death Eaters, Order members, and Harry and the others; the part where she kills Sirius.

2.) The fight between Molly Weasley and Bellatrix.

3.) Hermione's torture scene in "Deathly Hallows"

Re: Favourite Action Scene

Regarding action scenes. I e-mailed one of the death eater actors asking if there were any cut scenes with Hagrid in the battle, and he told me this;

Quote:
Sorry for the delay, been filming. Regarding Potter, we did fight with Hagrid. He punched myself, then crushed me and then pushed me away. Quite incredible. The other two death death eaters he disposed of too in a similar fashion. Sorry to say they never used it. Maybe they did not want to show Hagrid in a fierce way.
Just thought I'd share this.

Interesting! I'd love to get my hands on that footage.

My favorite 'fight scene' would have to be the Courtyard Apocalypse scene. Would that be considered a fight scene? Really, the music and everything happening around the trio just sends shivers down my spine, and I can't say there's another scene in the movies that omit that reaction out of me.

Also two fight scenes in DH Part 1:

The Cafe fight scene. It was a short scene, but I enjoyed seeing the trio working together in a fight scene. If you look at other movies before that you usually only get Harry against a foe of sorts, but not the whole trio battling that same foe(in this case two Death Eaters).

The Malfoy Manor scene. Ron and Harry teamwork! Ron is really overlooked in the movies..Well in at least most of them, it was nice to see him leading the charge and not Harry. And Dobby's appearance just makes the scene 100x better.

I love in Deathly Hallows 2, when Harr, Ron and Hermione have just destroyed the diadem and are running to the boat house. It's just the perfect music, the perfect speed, and sequence. Everyone is fighting together and you really feel it. It ends with Aberforth casting away the dementors and it gives me goosebumps every time.

Re: Favourite Action Scene

I always thought the best action was Dumbledore fighting Voldemorte in Order of the Phoenix until I saw DH2 and the fiendfire sequence. That had everything, action, fear and humour and it was great to see Hermione on a broomstick for a change. I really didn't want to see how it was done with SFX because it was so good especially Harry grabbing Draco.

Re: Favourite Action Scene

1) the Harry Draco bathroom duel in HBP. Amazingly intense and exciting, but intimate at the same time. Beautiful cinematography.

2)Courtyard Apocalypse. The horror and carnage, as the trio get a perspective on what everyone else is up against, left me hyperventilating when I saw this in the cinema. The fact that this comes straight after the furious fiendfrye frenzy scene and right away is followed by Snapes Tears is actually pretty mind melting when you watch the movie through

Re: Favourite Action Scene

The ministry scene in DH 1 - very intense, and watching Yaxley coming after them was menacing

As far as beautiful action scenes, the one that is most exhilarating is in PoA when Harry rides the Hippogriff during Hagrid's class. I think the musical score that accompanies the hippogriff flight is beautiful and makes the scene even better.

Re: Favourite Action Scene

To me, the Quidditch matches always seem like actions scenes because they are so intense!
I also like the First Task (dragon) in GoF.

Re: Favourite Action Scene

I think the Ministry break-in from DH1 is one of the best things Yates did. Its a really large scale heist set up which could have dragged but he keeps the whole scene interesting and with great momentum. It manages to be funny/freaky/exciting/scary all at the same time, and builds to a great climax with Yaxley chasing them through the main atrium area. And then the cut to them being in the forest/wilderness is really jarring and affective (although not as jarring as the cut from the Bill/Fleur wedding to the London Street in front of a bus).

In terms of large scale constructed sequences, I think the only thing that tops it from the HP films is the Time Turner from PoA, which is just perfection (especially when you consider how much potential there was for that scene going off the rails...)

I like how they developed the Quidditch sequences through the series. The one on CoS is like the from from PS/SS but on steroids, and with the added drama of the Harry/Draco conflict.

Then you have the one from PoA which is more impressionistic. Its visually stunning and gives a real sense of the chaos of the game and the wild weather.

And the ones from HBP sit somewhere in between those two styles, whist adding comedy to the mix, and its great that they serve a real character beat development in the film, being an essential part of Ron's story
