Will The Movies Be Remade Years From Now?

Most truly great films eventually are refilmed. Decades from now, with better special effects, more knowledge about books which were unreleased when the first series was filmed, there are many reasons why these will may be remade later. Each of these films has had a different atmosphere, which is good, but there is something to be said for continuity. Besides, there will allways be the profit motive.
The Wizard Of Oz, filmed in 1939, is one of the few classics left to stand alone, though there was an all Black cast (THE WIZ) which tried to update the story. It bombed.
Just curious. Will Harry Potter die down or will it be like Tolkein's classic...beloved by generations. Will they remake the movies in twentyfive or fifty years?

Knowledge about future stories is irrelevant for making movies about the first movies. Each movie is a stand-alone story.

The movies should not be remade.

I love the movies like they are, but if they are re-made and i am still alive, i will mostlikely go see them because who knows? they could be amazing.

funny you should start this thread because I was thinking the other day about whether it would be worth it... I think the way to go in my opinion is animation and a series rather than movies. That way each episode could get the details out of the books.

There seem to be quite a few great graphic artists on this site so how about it!

hard to say! in soemways...probably not! it's a huge series, which would peopel really want to see a remake of all 7?! it's a bit of a shame rally..because then it'll mean my favourite bits will never make hte films....but you never know......100 years time? (LOL! can't iamgien life then!!!) ANdi'll liek to still rememebr those filsm of my youth....oh, it'll be so sad when it's end!!
Harry POtter will always be with us though....and I'm sure it'll always be mentioned, always come up, have TV shows based on it, books written about it etc. There might be a film based on it doing an overview (starting with hary as a yoiung wiz\rd then having to defeat voldemort/waheteverhappens at th end). i would;t liek it if schools made kids read hte books though...becuase that always ruins a good book imo! (at elast from my experience - and kids resent it becuase they're told to read it!)
one thing is for sure though....this is a series that won't be esuily forgoten..because we won't let it

Ahh! This is a very scary thought...wouldn't it be weird? To see other people play the roles. I don't think they will. I mean I would think JKR would have to have some say in it and I am sure she would not want them to.
Or what if there was like a TV series or something...ooo weird!

I doubt it, although most classic novels are remade multiple times. But HP is expensive to make, is seven films long (and would be almost impossible to shorten without losing a lot of what makes the books so great), and I don't see a Masterpiece Theatre sort of version anytime because the kids will grow too fast to make each book into some sort of ten hour epic.

although it's a touch decision, i don't think that they will be remade, for a number of reasons- many of which have already been mentioned. for one, they are incredibly expensive, and there are so many of them. it's not like remaking one 'epic-type' movie, it's remaking seven [ i just don't see them remaking only one...that wouldn't make any sense]. it would be a massive undertaking, and i can't really see how anyone would be willing to tackle it.

and i don't really see the movies as necessarily becoming classics, at least not in the traditional sense of the word. i think that they will always be something that harry potter fans value quite a bit. beyond that, i am just not sure. they are entirely different from the books.

I really hope so. Make it all a trilogy and cutting all the unimportant bits. It would be easier for the film makers to redo these films knowing what is going to happen in the end.

personally, i don't even want to imagine this. i think it would be disastrous, trying to effectively create a trilogy out of a series of seven [rather long] novels. think about how condensed the poa and gof books had to be in order to properly become translated to screen. and, of course, those were nothing [length-wise] in comparison to ootp or hbp, and now dh. furthermore, some movie goers argued that poa and gof were confusing and even choppy because of so many cuts. no, i just don't think that the entire thing would translate well into a trilogy.

With actors and live sets, it would be VERY expensive, needless to say unnecessary if they would just be similar to what we have. What I would be interested in would be CG-animation, truer to the book versions, perhaps direct to DVD versions that take 10-20 hours, or more, per book

I don't think they will be remade. At least not for a long long time. And if they are, they might even be better with the advancements in technology and such.

It may be expensive and it may never be done, but I hope they do remake the films. Not into seven films, but closer to 10 so that you can really follow the books this time. Obviously each movie would not begin and end where the books do but use all 7 books to make like ten movies. That would be awesome! It would also do justice to JKR's amazing work.

Hollywood is never happy unless they are re-making some movie of the past! They are never as good, but this doesn't stop them... animated probably is the way to go, (30 years from now) but with CG getting better and cheaper, who is to know?
I only hope I'm not around to see them!

The only re-make i would be interested in is an almost word for word one where they are all hours and hours long.
