As a matter of fact, this year is the year of the dog.

There's no year of the cat. The rat stole the cat's place on the way to the party, therefore, the cat missed it, if I'm remmebering right. That's what she was referring to, more than likely.Aww, you need to continue on, or find a way to watch the anime, anyway, even though it ends after I think volume 8 or so of the manga.Fruits Basket isn't really shoujo, imo. When I think shoujo, I think a lot of romance-oriented plots or subplots. Romance isn't really much of a theme in this series. It's more so drama/fantasy, I feel.
Cat cat cat! Sorry, wrong animal! >_< I thought there was something a bit off about my information, but now I know, so thanks! ^_^;

Re: Fruits Basket

Well, 7th Child, it's been "shoujo of the moment" for several years, now, and I know some big, tough, male juvie delinquents who love it, too.

(Come to think of it, one of those guys is going into the Navy Seals this summer! )

Re: Fruits Basket

I still don't see it as being all that "shojou"-ish. A little, but not a lot.

Re: Fruits Basket

That's funny! I know plenty of GIRLS who wouldn't touch shouju with a barge pole! But good for those guys!
I'll check out Furuba when I have money to spend, but right now I'm broke, so I'm just trying to forget it by sugar-highing and playing FF7.
I'm more into anime myself though, rather than manga...but it's 20 for a DVD with like four episodes here in the UK, which is a bit of a rip off. :/

Re: Fruits Basket

^I think on the cover of some of the later books it says that Fruits Baskets is the topselling shoujo manga in the US. I'm not sure what that means, but that's what it says.

Re: Fruits Basket

Fruit Basket is one of the more popular shoujo anime/manga; i was once really into the whole anime/manga for this series, but after finishing off the anime i got tired with the manga -_- although the art is getting much better than when the artist first started!!!

From pictures I've seen of the manga, the anime art looks a lot better. I have only seen a few pictures, so maybe the artist has improved, but I wouldn't want a different style of Kyo .

Re: Fruits Basket

The art gets so much better and all of the guys are even hotter. Tohru looks more innocent and sweet. The manga is loads better than the anime in my opinion.

Re: Fruits Basket

I just worry that Furuba is a little too innocent for me! Girls with guns and angsty teens are my sorta thing. Think evangelion and Cowboy Bebop.

Re: Fruits Basket

Okay, I have watched the first episode of furuba (thank god for youtube.com) and I made a LOG of my viewing proceedings. Here it is:
WARNING: This guide contains idiocy.
---

(shoves kit kat into mouth) Yum. Let's watch. *clicks play*

Well, this is the worst opening theme ever. *chomp chomp*
Five seconds into furuba: Why has no one died yet?
Ten seconds later: Seriously...?
*chomp chomp*
Two minutes later: Where are the guns?
*chomp chomp*
Ah, a grey/blue haired boy! He must be genetically modified or something. Yay!
But why's he calling her 'Honda-san'? Shouldn't it be 'Chan'? Is she above him or something? Is he just overly respectful? I should write a letter of complaint...

Four minutes later: This is scary...no one's evil or an assasin or has a giant robot. Yet...
What's with her voice?
Man, her friends are weird. But cool-weird. Where are their guns?

- Okay, seriously, no one's died.

*eats another kit kat* Well, this ain't so bad. But there are no guns. Or swords. Or baskets of fruit.

Ten minutes later: Why is it called fruits basket? It's almost as bad as 'my strawberry eggs'. Or 'sorcerer's stone'. Ack.

Okay. I need a break. Must watch some Lain. People die in Lain ^_______^.....

All right, I'm back.

*watches till the end*

Well, I must say I'm disappointed. Not a single explosion.

CONCLUSION:
Although I can see the appeal of furuba, I'm afraid it's just not for me. Of course I shall have to watch episode two, but my hopes aren't high. Now, to the cowboy bebop DVDs! *ahoy!*

Re: Fruits Basket

kitsune, I don't think you're allowed to promote that site here.

That aside, I've finally gotten around to collecting the series, granted, I still don't own volume I of it yet. lol I have the volumes scattered about, but I do have the US's most current release of it, so at least now I know what I can and cannot say in this thread.

I've been focusing more on Mahou Sensei Negima aka here in the states as Negima! Magister Negi Magi. I'm totally into it and have up to volume 9 of it...minus volume 6.

Re: Fruits Basket

If it's just verbal translations, I think it's probably okay...if it includes downloadable images, it isn't.

The problem even with translations is that sooner or later someone will make illegal scanlations with them. :/

Has anyone read the lastest chapter of Fruba (chap 125)? It was an okay chapter.

Re: Fruits Basket

Ummm, we've been told not to discuss chapters beyond what has been released in America... But yes, it was good. That's really all we can say about it though if we don't want the thread closed, which I know I don't.
