Re: Hunger games (2012)

Rue and Thresh look perfect. I can't wait to see them in action.

Apparently, Elizabeth Banks is in talks to play Effie. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, I was hoping for either Kristin Chenoweth or even Amy Poehler.

I just saw that tonight. I would have preferred someone older like Kristin or Amy as well. I am not sure how I feel about elizabeth either. I think appearance wise she will be largely covered up by all that outrageous Capitol make up and wigs so it will come down to her acting and if she can pull off that whimsical, overly dramatic side of effie which I found as a source of comic relief when reading the book.

I would love for Elizabeth to play Effie. I can see that! She'd be great!

She's a good choice. The right age, I think. Elizabeth Banks plays exasperated pretty well, so I think she could pull it off. But she is very identifiable, so I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Well, I would have liked to see a dark brown skinned girl like Rue, but I figured that'd only be the case with the male tribute. Still, this is better than the three primaries.

I'm not crazy about Elizabeth Banks, but I like her better than Chenowith. Effie always seemed to be in her early 30s.

Looks like we have Glimmer and Marvel too:
http://www.facebook.com/thehungergam...53235154741250

Glimmer: Leven Rambin
Marvel: Jack Quaid

I can't even pretend to know anything about either of these actors. Does anyone have some insight? From looks, though, Glimmer is perfect.

Love that FB page too, hadn't seen that up til now.

Wow, the casting is moving fast. Somehow I pictured Marvel to be more athletic, but it is hard to tell just from a head shot. He does look tough though, so in that sense he would make a good career. Leven has been around. She was in all my children for a long time and has had recurring roles in greys anatomy and one tree hill. She is a bit old to play a teen, but then again they have seemed to age everyone and I may be biased since I saw her as a teen on AMC. She has played the sexy party girl before so she should be fine as glimmer.

Honestly, I initially pictured Jennifer as glimmer because of her model good looks. Leven just doesn't seem that intimidating when compared to Jennifer. I guess I am still used to picturing katniss as thin and petite, with careers supposedly much bigger and taller than her.

They have definitely aged everyone up a bit (too much, I think) and I have to wonder if they're going to make the other unnamed tributes younger. They can't have all 20 year olds and then Rue, can they?

Also I think we need some ethnic variety going on. I mean, they can't think that only white people survived the downfall of North America, right?

Some random thoughts on ages and skin color... Cato and Clove are sure to be cast as white, but I can see the boy from District 3 (the explosives expert) be a person of color (Indian? Asian?). Foxface - was she mentioned as having red hair or am I making that up? I picture Foxface as fairly young, like 13/14 for some reason. The girl from 8 I also picture as young, she's the one who lit the fire the first night and then the Careers find and kill her.

No other tribute really stands out. I'm assuming they will cast all of the younger roles as tributes that are killed off early in the games so they won't have to deal with child labor issues. We'll still see them in the training sessions (presumably) but that can all be done very quickly.

I think Leven looks great. I always imagined Glimmer as one of those girls from my high school who were just relentlessly stuck up and rude as hell, and she looks the part. I mean, I'm sure she's a lovely person in real life. But Jack...he looks kinda dweebish. Oh wow, I just read that he's Dennis Quaid+Meg Ryan's son. I didn't know they had a child together! How funny. I guess we'll have to wait and see if he can act at all.

All this Tribute casting is great and all, but I'm dying to find out about Haymitch. I wonder if he's been chosen and Lionsgate is just holding out on us.

Those are great suggestions. For some reason I also thought fox face had red hair too but I can't remember if that is how she was described or because I picture foxes as having red hair :lol

It would be nice if there was ethnic diversity with the tribute casting. I agree they should cast younger for the others since the leads look so much older already.

I hope we'll be able to tell the difference between Katniss and Glimmer...I too thought Foxface had red hair.

-Snickered- I agree. I hope they're not just going to run around recruiting every blond young woman who comes (cast) calling.

Wow, hollywood reporter really gets the scoop on everything hunger games related!

I don't know about this Prim. I pictured someone more cherubic looking like Elle Fanning. This girl looks a bit tougher, kind of a young saoirse ronan.

So far, the only casting where I felt at least look wise was spot on were rue and thresh.

I didn't know Jack Quaid was Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid's son either! I guess a lot of kids with parents in the business end up going that route eventually. It is his debut apparently, so hopefully it turns out well.

She looks like she would own a goat. That sounded horrible. She doesn't look particularly innocent or young for that matter.
*sigh*

I completely agree. She just doesn't have that innocent look. She is supposedly to look just like Rue except for skin color, and I just don't get that same impression from this picture.

I love them, they are very un-Captiol-ish. It made me think of book Katniss and all the body hair they removed from her.

I've looked at the links and can't seem to find how old she is. In some pictures she looks 15 in other more like 12 or even 9. At least she's another unknown. I like that about the casting so far.

I agree. She has wise eyes, I expected more innocent like Rue's eyes.

She does kind of show varying degrees of "age" in her different photos. Did any of the news articles say her real age? I can't remember.

I also like how they're choosing unknown actors. It's kind of like the Harry Potter film franchise-a bunch of relatively unknown child actors were chosen to act alongside well-established adult actors.

I am way too obsessed tonight with this! None of the articles said specifically, the closest came to "she's the right age to play 12 year old Prim." So I'm guessing she's more like 12 years old.

A little random, but found this tonight. I'm a Glee fan, and I would LOVE if they cast Naya Rivera as Johanna Mason for Catching Fire & Mockingjay. She'd be perfect.

Oh that girl is so beautiful. I've only seen a few episodes of Glee, and I'm not really fond of any of the characters but I do like what I've seen of Santana. (Blaine's okay too, I guess).
