Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

No spoilers are allowed in these areas. Please make sure you've read our Deathly Hallows Conduct Notice!

Neville is the most underestimated character of the series....i was watching the first movie and at the end when Dumbledore is awarding the last points, I noticed something very important which might be the key twist in the final book.....so Dumbledore gives Hermione then Ron and finally harry the points and just when we think it was over all of a sudden J.K Rowling surprises us and gives the last point to the most unexpected character in the book NEVILLE!! now when i saw this last night in the movie i realized that maybe in the end when harry and Voldemort are going at it... neville will be the one who will finish of Voldemort....since he is the second person after harry who has to do with the prophecy....he might turn out to be the unexpected hero.

I think i would like that idea, Neville is often portrayed as a helpless, forgetful and nervous boy who hasnt showed any outstanding achievements in his time in hogwarts, i think it would be interesting if he was the one ended up defeating Voldemort, it would make him a completely different character.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

funny this thread is just started as we have been debating something about neville and non verbal spells in another thread. This could be a good place to continue this discussion. He was trying to cast the spell stupefy in the OotP book but it came out as stubefy as he had a broken nose. our discussion was that if he could do this non verbally it may have worked. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

Dumbledore told Harry that since Voldemort 'chose' Harry, the prophecy IS about Harry, not Neville. Neville may play a major role in Deathly Hallows. He may even be there with Harry during the final battle. But, I don't think Neville even knows that the prophecy 'could' have been about him. What do you think his reaction will be if and/or when he finds out?

I agree, he is underestimated. Although I think in the last two books he's started to come on as a wizard, who knows, in DH he may have an important part to play.
I don't think he'll be the one who finishes off Voldemort though, that'll come down to Harry. Like someone else has said, Voldemort chose Harry, not Neville.

Neville will play a major role. He's been coming into his own ever since he first stood up to the trio in PS/SS. He fought alongside Harry in OotP (in fact, he was the only one left standing with Harry) and he fought against the DEs in Hogwarts. I can't see not being there for the final battle.

Yes. Why wouldn't he? Every book we learn a little bit more about Neville as his inner self emerges. He is a late bloomer, but every late bloomer blooms eventually. He will be very important, and play a major role. He has to kill Bellatrix, after all. That's pretty important.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

I think Neville will play a role in the last book. He's been moving up in the series and has actually always been there ever since PS. The series wouldn't be right if he wasn't there in the end. Neville will most likely do something big with Bellatrix. I think Neville will take her out with him.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

I believe the Prophecy was created to draw Voldemort out.
As to Neville, he had his Father's wand; when he got his own wand, he has become much better.

So with that view, anyone could be able to kill Voldemort.

Remember Neville's great skills in Herbology. That could help to defeat Voldemort. In fact, I never did read anything about Voldemort's skills in Herbology. Maybe herbology is a skill weakness in Voldemort.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

I love Neville, and I agree that his skills in Herbology could definitely play a large part against Voldemort. At any rate, Neville has now fought against Death Eaters on two different occasions - at the MoM and at the end of HBP - so I think that it is likely that he will face them again.

Personally, I'm hoping that it's Bellatrix, and I hope that Neville gets his revenge against her. Although I'm not entirely sure that Neville could beat her, I'm hoping that he at least can confront her one more time so that his own personal issues with Voldemort can be resolved along with the other characters.

Who knows? Perhaps herbology is weakness of Voldemort. I'm not sure how it could help, but we don't really know too much about Herbology, and so I'm sure that there's more to come about it.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

There is a lot that can be said about Neville. He definitely will play a major role in 7. I don't think he will defeat Voldemort, but the whole storyline with his parents has to be resolved. I was so proud of Neville in OotP and HBP; he really is coming into his own.

Neville's courage is of a different sort than Harry's. I'm not bashing Harry, but Harry is rash and tends to run headlong into things. As Lupin put it, Harry's worst fear is fear itself, which is why his boggart turns into a dementer. But Neville, who has more tangible fears, still goes into danger - despite his fears - to protect his friends. He doesn't have an absence of fear, he only chooses not to let it control him. Which courage do you admire more: the one that fears nothing and rushes in? or the one that fears everything and still rushes in?

I think that Neville's journey to manhood, while understandably more belated than Harry's, will finish in Deathly Hallows. His recent experiences in the Department of Mysteries and the fight at Hogwarts have prepared him for his role in book 7. I hope that role will be to settle his score with Bellatrix. (However he accomplishes this, I don't think he will actually kill her - is that even in his nature?)

I do believe Neville will be extremly important. And also, I unfortunatly believe he might be one of the characters to parish. Neville has more powers then even he knows. He will make us all proud .

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

I agree that Neville will play a major role in DH but I don't think he will be the one to finish Vodemort off. That is up to Harry. I think he will finish off Bellatrix who is an important character as well. She tortured his parents and killed Sirius!!!! I love Neville and I believe he will be able to do it.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

Neville will play a huge role in Deathley Hallows. His parents were tortured by Bellatrix until they went insane. This can not go ignored in the final showdown. In reality, I'm not sure if Neville really cares that much about Voldemort. He just has one goal in this journey...

...To kill Bellatrix Lastrange. Of course, we all can pretty much assume that they coelesce. But, if Neville can kill Voldemort, but Bellatrix is still out there, he will go after Bellatirx. It's just a matter of how much their battle will aid or hurt Harry's own quest.

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

He will play a significant role in DH. Hopefully as the one who finally rids the world of Bellatrix. I don't think we'll see much of him during the Horcrux quest as that will only be between the Trio and Ginny but I cannot see him being left out of the final battle.

He has developed as a character over the past 6 books. He has gotten more confident and his skills as a wizard have increased greatly. He will be there with Harry at the end along with Luna as they were the only members of the DA that responded to Hermione's call at the end of HBP

Re: Will Neville play a major role in Deathly Hallows?

I think he will play a role in DH--- weither it be big or not.... we are just going to have to wait and see. J.K. has never failed to surprise us before... so if Neville does play a big role.... the role that he plays--- thats the real question.

not weither or not he plays in the book or not.
