Si, yo tambien!

How do I say, "I used to be very good at Spanish in high school but now I've forgotten everything!"

Is it, "Yo era muy bueno en espanol in escuela (high school??), pero ahora olvido todo"? I believe we need the imperfect past tense for "used to be", but which verb? Ser? Or am I totally off here, which I probably am, haha...

I would say this:

Yo era muy bueno en español cuando estaba en la Escuela Superior (High School), pero ahora olvidé todo! (or 'pero ahora he olvidado todo'!)

There.
In PR, we say Escuela Superior for High School. We even called it just High School, Spanglish is taking over ... very bad.

Re: Spanish

Yo tengo una clase de español en mi escuela. Pero no soy inteligente.

I hope that made sense!

Re: Spanish

It was almost perfect. I would've only added a "comma" after 'escuela', instead of a "period".
The spanish was very good. Si eres inteligente.

In Spain, the word for High School is "Instituto". I don't know how it's said in South America.

Re: Spanish

Quiero sacar una buena nota para mi clase de español. (I don't need to put yo in front of quiero, right?) Esa clase es muy difícil. Estoy estudiando ahora.

I have no idea if that makes sense, especially the last part.

Almost all right. Since you are a girl, you would say, "estoy estudianda ahora." It's good, though.

Re: Spanish

No, no ... "estudiando" applies for both female and male, as it is the execution of an action, of "estudiar".

"Estoy estudiando ahora" literally translates to "I'm studying now".

If you wanted to say "I'm studying it now" (in reference to the class), it'll be "La estoy estudiando ahora".

It was good the way your wrote it, beatifically.

-----
If you wanted to use the word student ("estudiante"), it stays the same for both female and male, as well. I don't know if any other spanish-speaking country uses "estudianta" for the females I don't think so, but let us see what others have to say.

That makes sense. It's like when conjugating for él/ella, the verb ending doesn't change. Like for "practicar," the él/ella/Ud. form is all the same.

Other than the word estudiante, isn't deportista the same for men and women? And inteligente? Most words that end with e are the same for men and women, I think.

Re: Spanish

Deportista and inteligente is the same for both, yes.

Other words I could think of: artista (artist), piloto (pilot), policia (police officer)

Oh, sorry. I thought it was feminine too, because it's an adjective.

Re: Spanish

Well, "estudiando" is a Spanish gerundive (present participle in english).

This was taken from Wikipedia: "Traditionally, Spanish grammar has regarded the present participle not as an adjective, but as an adverb, and it does not change form to agree with any noun in gender or number. Nonetheless, it is used in much the same ways as the (adjective) present participle in English."
Also, "The Spanish gerundive is to form the continuous aspect, much as the present participle does in English, that express incomplete action in progress at a specific time. Miguel está estudiando means Miguel is studying."

I hope that helps.
I mean, I do it automatically, so I get stuck trying to explain it.
Thanks to Wiki.
