If you could learn another language, which would it be?

Didn't find any thread like this

So, if you had the chance to learn another language, which would it be and why?
Which languages do you already know?
Do you plan on realizing your wish to learn that language?

Personally, I already know German and English fluently, French pretty well and a little Spanish.
I always wanted to be able to speak Italian, but since it's very similar to French & Spanish I understand most of it (written) anyways.

I'm planning on learning Slovakian. It's my boyfriend's second native language, and it sounds so beautiful Plus, if I ever end up marrying him, I want my children to learn it too, and I want to be able to understand them

I speak a bit of Polish, and it's my dream to become native standard in it (long way to go, though!). I'd also like to improve my French (the only language I gained any competence in at school - can still read it, but can speak zilch).

If we're talking completely new languages, though, I'd like to learn Cornish.

Russian. my friend says each Cyrillic character represents a sound in the word, so i think that'd be cool.

Re: If you could learn another language, which would it be?

Hmm...there's a lot of other languages I'd like to learn to speak. I've taken four years of Spanish and would like to become fluent in it. But I'd like to learn some older languages like Hebrew or Greek (or both). I also would like to learn Japanese and Mandarin because I think the change of characters (as oppose to letters) would be fun to learn.

French, I still haven't mastered it.
Chinese - Mandarin or Cantonese.
Then probably Russian or Hindi. I'd like to learn very different languages.

I always wanted to learn Italian or French. It sounds so beautiful.
But honestly I'm not too good at English sometimes which is what I've spoke all my life. So learning another langauge would probaly be difficult.

Re: If you could learn another language, which would it be?

I was born in Colombia, so my first language is Spanish, although nowadays I speak English a lot better than I do Spanish. My dream is to speak Italian fluently. To me, it's the most absolutely beautiful language. I could listen to it all day. I studied it in school and I also studied abroad in Rome for 3 and a half months, so I picked it up pretty well while I was over there. It got to the point where I could very slowly talk to the natives there! It was so exciting. Unfortunately I've forgotten everything I learned!

I'd love to learn any language, but I'd think it be a real marvel to learn Simplified, Mandarin, and Traditional Chinese.

Re: If you could learn another language, which would it be?

I speak Swedish, Ukrainian and English fluently. I can speak Russian too, but not quite as well as those aforementioned however. I've never been to Russia and don't really know anyone who speaks Russian. I kinda learned through reading russian books and stuff. I spoke a bit Polish as well, but I've forgotten practically everything. I've actually read Harry Potter in Swedish, Ukrainian and Russian (and the original English versions of course). Anyway, I would LOVE to be able to speak and understand Latin. I find it rather fascinating. French would also be pretty cool to know

Re: If you could learn another language, which would it be?

I know some French, German and Russian. I've always thought it would be fun to learn a non-Indo-European language, though it is hard to choose. Arabic or Hebrew might be cool. Chinese and Japanese also have some appeal, but the thought of trying to learn to read in those languages, with characters instead of just another alphebet to learn, is sort of intimidating...

I do speak Dutch and English, and now I'm learning French, German, Old Greekish and Latin. But I'd like to speak Spanish too, there are so many people in the world who speak Spanish.

I'd like to learn Swedish, but it seems so difficult with a lot of precise pronunciation. I'm bad enough with English as it is.

I speak English and Bulgarian. Right now I am learning French and Spanish; however I would like to learn Mandarin. It is so precise and pronunciation is so specific. It is so different of all of the languages I know or am learning. However, given its difficulty I would not try to learn it by myself as I've done with Spanish.

I'm learning French right now, mainly because you have too in Ontario until grade 9. But I'm liking it. I want to learn Spanish and Italian because it's very similar to French.
I would like to learn German too.

Re: If you could learn another language, which would it be?

Ahh.... learning another language....

My first priority is always to keep hold of the languages I know - and it can be pretty tricky, especially with the ones I need to speak occasionally!

I am fluent in German and English - but Italian, modern Greek and French keep sort of drifting away, and the occasional time I get to stay in countries where these languages are spoken are just enough to remind me why I love speaking these languages, but not enough to make them stick in my memory, although I can read them all!

My main dream is to achieve a standard where I can feel comfortable in a third language - never mind which - and I would assume that it would be one of the three mentioned above.

I'd also love to be able to write properly in Latin and ancient Greek, which is a skill I simply don't have (I have no inclination to speak those languages, though).

If I could learn a completely new language (and I hope I shall one day!) it would be Arabic. I love the sound of Arabic, I love the way it looks in writing, it is spoken by lots of people (albeit in mutually unintelligible dialects) and it isn't Indo-European, like all the other languages I have learned.

Unfortunately, I made a pretty miserable failure of learning Welsh (which is Indo-European, though very distant from any of the other languages I know), so I have no idea how well I'd do!

Re: If you could learn another language, which would it be?

If I had the opportunity to learn another language, it would most definitely be Latin. I've always liked it quite alot, but recently, I've fully realized how beautiful it is. Unfortunately, it's also really hard to learn, but maybe someday I will. I was never particularly good at learning second languages in school, but maybe that's because all my Spanish classes were at 7 in the morning.

As far as languages I already know, English is my first, but I know a tiny bit of Spanish as well. (I didn't forget everything from school, thankfully) I wouldn't say I'm terribly good at speaking Spanish, but if I had to, I could speak it and probably make my point.. with really bad grammar in between.

Well I do speak French and Spanish (and English) but I'm not as good at French and Spanish as I used to be, I've gotten a little rusty lol. But s well as brushing up on my French and Spanish I'd like to learn Italian.
