Inside I'm Dancing, (or if you're in America I think it has the title Rory O'Shea Was Here). It's so good and (yet so sad in places) it always puts a smile on my face!

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Those two can pick me up anytime, except Revenge of the Sith. The first part of it is always happy and cool, but the second half, if anything, just makes me more sad.

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Revenge of the Sith is deffinitly not the movie to watch when you're a bit down. It's so sad!
The Illusionist is one. It's not a comedy and it is a bit sad in the middle, but it's kind of a mystery movie with magic and romance. |

When I'm sad, I watch Elizabethtown, and somehow I always feel better. It's a very uplifting story =)

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
If you're female & you haven't seen Enchanted April, definitely check it out. Best way to watch it is with your girlfriends - it's such a great female-bonding flick. Magical, funny, uplifting, and you'll want to run off to the coast of Italy immediately. Plus, HP fans can get a glimpse of Jim Broadbent, the actor who's playing Slughorn, in an earlier role as one of the annoying husbands who gets left behind (temporarily) as the stifled British housewives take off for a liberating & much-needed girls-only vacation circa 1920.

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
When I'm feeling badly, I always watch either chick flicks, movies from when I was young, or really hilarious movies. Legally Blonde, Miss Congeniality, The Parent Trap, Princess Diaries, Mean Girls, Clue. Stuff like that. I actually just watched Princess Diaries because I was in a bad mood, and last night it was Legally Blonde. Sometimes I'll watch one of the first two Harry Potter movies - the later ones depress me.

You know, I think the new 'Mamma Mia' film will definitely qualify as a 'pick me up' sort of DVD
![]() It's great fun - but apparently it is VERY gender specific - all women I know who saw it absolutely adore it.... men... erm... less so ![]() Anyway - I think it belongs in this thread ![]()

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Ohhh... The Shawshank Redemption!!
That is a GREAT feel good movie.... I think it's true, it isn't one to make you smile.... but it is a great movie to watch in a melancholic mood and to just lift the spirits in a rather gentle way. ![]() My absolute antidote to sadness remains Kenneth Branagh's version of 'Much Ado About Nothing'. This film came out in the year when I was an exchange student in Scotland. As it turns out, many exchange students are hit by a bout of homesickness sometime around November - that's when the first excitement of getting to know new people has worn off, and the November weather kicks in. Well - in that year our cinema showed Mach Ado About Nothing around that time. A whole group of friends went together - we were all a bit down, but came out of the cinema absolutely elated and happy.... the homesickness never returned after that ![]() It's just such a fluffy, jolly sort of play, and the actors (with the exception of Keanu Reeves who doesn't even manage to look pretty) are fantastic.... the scenery makes you feel all warm and summery and the camera, swirling and dancing around the action, just picks you up... I can't explain it - that movie just works every time ![]()

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
All Disney movies seem to pick me up when I'm not feeling so good. Also comedies work just as well - like Anchorman, Zoolander and Wayne's World. I need a film to take me away from the real world and to distract me

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
It depends on how down I'm feeling, but Legally Blonde is always a good pick me up.
![]() Or if I just want to watch a movie that will let me have a good cry, but ultimately feeling good at the end, PS I love You is one of those ![]()

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
When I'm feeling sad...I tend to go for dark, symbolic movies with a shred of hope at the end. V for Vendetta, The Fountain, Princess Mononoke, Pan's Labyrinth, etc. They seem to remind me that there are more important things in life, something that you can always fight for, and they usually turn my sadness into determination to get through those hard times. I guess I'm just weird like that.
