general fiction policy

Today (31-Aug-2007) sees a change in the way fan-fiction works on CoS Forums. To allow for a broader amount of fan-fiction to be included on the forums, Hogsmeade Members and above will now be allowed to post Same-Sex fan-fiction and fan-art at a level similar to current fiction. However, graphic, sexually-explicit fiction remains banned and we ask all Hogsmeade members participating in this area to keep their pieces free of graphic sexual & violent content.

Hogsmeade Members will now be granted access to a new password-protected area. Members who do not wish to view this area may request the area be hidden from view, which an Administrator can do.

With regards to sexually explicit fiction. It is still not permitted on these forums. This goes against the Forum Rules & the present fan fiction guidelines located in Flourish and Blotts.


Let's summarize what we don't want to see in any fiction on CoS:

• Anything overly violent and disturbingly graphic.
• Anything that contains sexually explicit material (heterosexual or homosexual -- it doesn't matter), whether or not you consider it harmless.
• No adult/child relationships. This again is not tolerated and you will be banned.

Our new fiction area for Non-HP Fiction has a different approach. In an effort to create a more uniformed policy, beginning with Hogsmeade and now to this area, the following rules apply to the Novella Forum:

• Fiction may be PG-13, which will allow for scenes of violence, mild language and implied sexual encounters. It does not permit graphic scenes of violence or sex.
• Same-sex fiction will be allowed in this forum, at a PG-13 level.
• Stories submitted must be your own work and not that of others, unless you have their consent to use their work in your own. If you do have consent you must credit them at the end of your work.
• Feedback must be constructive and respectful. Authors value critical opinion, as well as welcome praise and support.

The policy on sexually-explicit material will never change.
