What do the characters smell in Amortentia?
As the title says, what does Voldemort smell in Amorentia. for those of you that forget, amorentia is the love potion taught in harry's first class with Slughorn. it smells of what you most love.
i think that Voldemort can either not smell anything, or judging from his horribly flat nose, tha he can't smell anything. What do you think? ![]() EDIT (by Jessica): Since gremlins stole the old one I'm making this a general thread on what characters would smell ![]()

Re: What does Voldemort smell in Amorentia?
Wow. That is an incredibly hard question. I wonder what the scent of power is... or maybe what wands give off a slight burnt smell when they perform the avada kedavra? I dunno, what would voldemort most lovce? I don't think he can love anything right now, that's kind of the point of him, but I wonder if he once, at one point, loved someone or something. Ooooh that would be an interesting book 7 question...

Possibly the foul smell of making a horcrux?!?

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
Nothing that reminds him of somebody, obviously. Perhaps the stench of death and power?
Well, really I'm doubting about the death one right now, since it's one of the worst things Voldemort things could happen to him...so maybe the smell of the death of others? |

Quote:
Well, Voldemort is certainly a special case. I suppose that he may smell human blood - not because he is a vampire, etc., but because it is a sign of death, which he loves to cause. Also, Nagini's venom would probably be, if any odor at all, a seductive scent to him because he 'loves' Nagini, and the venom brought him back to health. As for the third, I have no clue - possibly the sweet smell of revenge? I believe that in the older thread it was generally agreed that Ron smelled two 'normal' things and possibly books (perhaps some of Hermione's books) or even the perfume he got her (although I think that this is the final thing Hermione smelled in Amortentia).

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
Voldemort knows nothing of love. Therefore, he would smell nothing in the Amortentia. It would be as odorless to him as carbon monoxide. Perhaps as deadly?

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
Voldemort hardly has a nose, so I doubt he could smell Amortentia. And of course, he doesn't even understand love, so it wouldn't mean anything to him.

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
I wonder how would Amortentia affect Voldemort? Is it a necessary requirement to be able to loev in order to be susceptible to a love potion? It seems so, because Amortentia brings out what is dear to us and possibly that's the way it works - by association? If that's true, and as we know that Voldemort is totally incapable of loving, he can't be affected by Amortentia, so he can't smell it at all.
About the others... About Ron - I think he'd smell a broom's handle too, and the smell of his home, plus Hermione, of course. Dumbledore - I have no idea. Perhaps some odour characteristic of Hogwarts? Snape - I have absolutely no idea. Hagrid - a beast, perhaps, or just the smell of danger! Ginny - Harry; about the other things I don't know... We don't know that much about her tastes. Draco would perhaps smell something connected with Slytherin, as it represents the idea of pure blood, and maybe his family? Neville - moist earth, Hogwarts? Not sure. Luna - who can tell??

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
Perhaps Voldemort wouldn't smell anything at all! He's incapable of selfless love and the only person he loves is himself, so maybe that's what he'll smell
!!!But seiously... Amorentia is a LOVE potion... is Voldemort capable of love at all? I think DD makes it clear that this Voldemort greatest handicap, the fact that he has no capacity for love. |

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
I totally want to see Luna or someone slip Voldemort one of Fred 'n' George's extremely potent love potions. It'd be absolutely hilarious if Voldemort started showing signs of obesessive infatuation, even though I know it'll never happen, not the least because Voldemort is probably already really cautious about what he eats and drinks. But anyway...
We've heard the only place Tom Riddle ever felt at home was at Hogwarts, so maybe he'll have some smells that come only from there? Perhaps... - the damp, grimy smell of the chamber of secrets - Umm... anything to do with the Hogwarts corridors and passageways and also maybe - "gunsmoke" from an AK and/or horcrux creation spell - the vapours that came from the cauldron at his "rebirthing party"

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
i like the ideas about voldemort smelling both hogwarts and "nagini-essence". perhaps also the cave in which he tortured the two children from the orphanage? it seems to have been an influential experience, and one in which he first began learning of the potential destructive nature of his power . . . interesting thread.

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
I think Snape might smell the place where he has the most fond memories, but where would this be? Perhaps he would smell the old potions/DADA books that he may have delved into as a lonely child, or the smell of the place where he hid from his father. Maybe he would smell his mother? Or even Dumbly's office?

Re: What do the characters smell in Amorentia?
Nothing, for Voldemort. Poor guy doesn't understand it, so I don't expect he can smell anything. Though it would be an interesting question to ask Jo, wouldn't it? Anyway, other characters:
Ginny: She seems like a freshly-ironed sheets kind of girl. Not because she's especially fussed with tidyness; I just think it seems very "Ginny." I also think maybe something Quidditch-related - maybe something like Harry smelled, the wood of a broom? Ron: Books! Maybe even the diary thingy Hermione brought him, if that had a certain scent? I also think some kind of pudding, like Harry, and maybe something chess-related. Hermione: For her last one... a Weasley jumper Neville: Bubblegum, like Anhelda suggested. That's a nice one. And earth, for Herbology. Luna: Butterbeer, maybe? From her butterbeer cork necklace? I'd guess there's a reason why she wears that, at least.

good argument. Voldemort doesn't smell anything because he is unable to love I guess. Or maybe he smells snake poo. (nagini, basilisk) ![]() Ok, my guesses: Ginny: Broom, Harry Twins: Powder, Smoke, Broom, Angelina (for Fred), muggle paper shop (for George) Fleur: Bouillabaisse, Hogwarts (there she met Bill for the first time), and Bill Dobby: socks ![]() Percy: Papersmell, like an office Bill: Old stone buildings (like pyramids), and what Fleur would smell like, probably some french perfume Dumbledore: These earmuffs from Madame Pomfrey. Rasperry Jam Bellatrix: Blood Grawp: the smell of a nice cave. Sirius: the smell of open air, freedom, maybe the sea? Krum: broom, library
