My Hermione Costume

So I made this outfit in summer of 2004, I believe, for my 4-H project. I wear it to book and movie openings, and of course, Halloween parties now!

I made the skirt, white shirt, and cape. I got the Gryffindor logo by cutting up a child's cape I bought for $8 at a party store. The tie and sweater are from Goodwill. I sewed some trim on the sweater to make it more Gryffindor-ish. The wand was a Christmas present from a friend who's really into woodworking.

And yes, that is my natural hair.

I'm really proud of it, and I'd be interested to see what you all have to say!

Edit: So after someone said that I looked like Hermione with tamer hair, I went through the pictures on my computer until I found one with my hair a little wilder. I think this is better!

Re: My Hermione Costume

Great work, I always prefer costumes made by the person that is wearing them.

I actually won Senior Grand Champion with this outfit and got to take it to the Indiana State Fair that year! It was such a blast.

Good luck with your outfit! I want to see pictures when it's done.

Thanks!

The wand is longer than I think they are in the books, probably between 13-14 inches because of the method my friend used.

Thanks! I've never really thought about going into design, but I do like to come up with ideas for clothes and stuff. This is just one of 5 outfits or so that I've made. I'd have to say my favorite part is definitely coming up with the ideas, patterns, and fabrics-- not the whole in between sewing part!

Great job! I love the way you were creative and did it your self. You didn't just buy a costume. Again, great job!

Re: My Hermione Costume

Whoa. *double-takes* You totally look like an older Hermione, perhaps with her hair calmed down a little. Terrific job on the costume!

Lol, thanks! I've had a lot of people that tell me I look just how they envisioned Hermione. That picture was taken after a party so my hair was nicer, but for book/movie releases, I brush my hair out so it's a lot wilder.

Re: My Hermione Costume

You know I think it's silly, but I envision my hair on Hermione. Her face comes out different to me, (I can't explain it, it's all in my head..) But I imagine my brown curly fluffy frizzy hair.

Re: My Hermione Costume

That's a really good-looking costume. I like all the little details you thought up, like the trim on the sweater and the patch on the robe.

The hair gives you an unfair advantage, though.

Excellent work!

Thanks so much! I just tried to go off what I'd seen in the movies. The trim was a really great find at a fabric store. It wasn't too expensive, and the scarlet trim was just *slightly* bigger than the gold!
