Good Day Everyone,

I'm sorry to say that CoS Forums is going to shut down in the Summer, sometime around July. This isn't an early April Fools joke either.

The Forums have become quite expensive to run and manage. There's a lot (LOT) less traffic coming to the site these days as Harry Potter becomes less of a topical debate for people.

I held on for a while after the last film, wondering whether JK would announce anything surprising, but I find that even if she did it wouldn't serve to help the diminishing numbers on the site or my bank balance!

Myself, I've been absent a lot more in the past year as personal issues have taken over and I've had to work longer hours, to earn more money to keep the forums going as well as pay for things like rent, utilities and god knows what else.

Some of you will be sad and I'm sure others will be happy. I'm not doing this lightly and I could have closed the site last year but held off. I know this may upset some of you who've come to see this place as a haven with friends and I'm very sorry it has to go but I've kept this place going with money out of my own pocket for 10 years now and it's no longer financially viable to do so. Please understand that this is not an easy decision!

Some of you may wish to offer to help, to donate or even take on the site. Whilst I would listen to any suggestions, I will not accept donations as this would be unsustainable in the long-term. If you wanted to take on CoS, be aware that you would need to find $200 per month and to be honest with you all I'm not sure I'm prepared to let the site be taken over by anyone. I've created a thread for comments. The other staff know only as much as the above. There is no Plan B as far as they are concerned, so do not pester them for answers to questions. If they do not know, they are being totally honest.

Many thanks to everyone who for the last 10+ years have worked in one way or another on the site. All the staff, past and present who gave their time and energy to making the community work. Every single person gave their time for free and were never paid for their efforts. It was a labor of love for all.
Many thanks to the members, those who came & went and dared to stay. Every single one of you who contributed to the site, to the discussions and events. You were the ones who made the site what it became, from the all the book releases to the heated, sometimes famous debates about all sorts of topics. You made CoS what it was. So thank you.

You mean like Mr. and Mrs. Weasly? That would be just cruel seeing as they are the closest harry can have as a family.

Well, ok, maybe not ALL adults that care about him are going to die. While they do care deeply for Harry and think of him as good as a son, I wouldn't put them in the same category as Sirius and DD. Maybe I should say... parental figures who have known Harry since he was a baby...

but most of those people are dead...but you may have a point.but then what other parental figure would die?

Jo herself has said that Sirius is "definitely dead" but that does not mean that he cannot make a reappearance in DH. If Harry does have to go beyond the veil, then he might just meet up with Sirius one more time.

I don't remember it being called anything, I always thought it was just referred to as the veil. The veil is in the room called the Death Chamber.

I don't think Sirius can really "come back" -- because he's most likely already dead. There may still be a way Harry could communicate with him.

I agree with Lupinfan.

"J.K. doesn't mess around with death. When Remus says he's gone, he's gone. I did think that there might be a possible reappearance of him in HBP, but now that HBP is over with and he didn't come back, I don't think there's a way.

Sirius fell through the veil, not down a hole. He was hit by a green light because it is stated that the light was red. It's not Avada Kedavra, but I don't think he will be coming back to complete life. I do believe that we will see some form of him again, whether it be through the two-way mirror or something else, but I don't believe he will come back."

He is dead, but we will see (or hear) him in some form or fashion. Remember Luna and Harry could both hear voices behind the veil.

well i think that point was answered . One, When Harry opened the parcel the note from Sirius said "these are two way mirrors. If you ever need me speak into yours and ill be able to hear u thru mine. James and I used these when we were in seperate detentions." If James and Sirius used them in SEPERATE detentions then obiously you had to actually have the mirror on you, to be contacted by the other. And as Harry spoke Sirius's name and he never responded he didnt have his mirror with him as he crossed.
Secondly, I do think (and hope) that there was a way out of the veil. Harry Luna Neviile and Ginny did hear someone on the other side. Possibly there was a way for their spirits to be removed from the other side of the veil.

Well, one thing we know is that he won't come back as a ghost because Nearly Headless Nick at the end of OOTP said that Sirius wouldn't do that (for what reason I have no idea).
