Re: Tomorrow Is Another Day
CHAPTER ONE Lily Evans Lily Evans is just like any other eleven-year-old her age. She had beautiful, long auburn hair and bright, emerald green eyes, just like some other members of her family. She had an older sister and a mother and father. The only thing that did make her different from most other eleven-year-olds was her accidents. Every now and then, if Lily was ever mad, upset, or sometimes even sad, something would happen and she would never be able to explain it. Sometimes, when she was extremely happy, she could almost fly! Nothing she had done had an explanation. Not until her best friend, Severus Snape, told her what she really was. When he told her at first she didn’t believe him. Mostly because it had upset her sister, Petunia, which she has taken favor of calling her Tuney. He had called her the witch at the age of nine, but what she had thought to be name-calling was the only true answer to her problems. She is a witch, and Severus is a wizard, no doubt about it. The only problem with believing him was that he is always telling her about a school called Hogwarts, and that the both of them will be getting their letters of acceptance soon, but neither of them had received one yet. Petunia always said that he must be lying anyway. He’s weird and gross so there is no point in hanging around with him, as she always said. Lily was always one to listen, but not about this. Severus was her best friend, and she believed everything he said. “Lily,” said a soft, sweet voice on the other side of Lily’s bedroom door. Lily quickly hid her purple journal under her mattress and straightened herself up. It was one o’clock, and the post would be here. “Lily, you have a letter.” Lily opened the door to her older sister, Petunia Evans, and in her hands was the afternoon post. Petunia smiled and handed her a letter with green, swooping letters. “Thank you, Tuney!” exclaimed Lily, knowing what this must be. It had no return address, and it even new exactly where she had been. Petunia smiled and looked over Lily’s shoulder to see who had written to her, but Lily didn’t open it yet. She wanted to see it for herself first before she shared it with her family. Even Severus would have to know soon. Miss L. Evans Pinkest Room In The House 13 Across The Bridge From Spinners End A wide smile spread across Lily’s face as she read her address on the thick, discolored envelope. When she turned it over she saw the waxed symbol sealing it closed. It had a large letter H with a lion, badger, serpent, and a bird around it. She nearly had the seal ripped open when Petunia stepped in front of her, looking at the wax seal herself. “It’s true then?” she said, her face dropping from the smile it once held just moments before. “You really are a-a - you really can do magic, and there really is a school that teaches you how to do it?” “Well, Severus says that it helps you control what magic you can do, and to learn more. That’s what his mum tells him anyway. . . .” said Lily, noticing how sad her sister had just become. She threw the letter on the bed and wrapped her arms around the blonde right away to comfort her sister. “So if his family can do it then why can’t I?” “Only his mum can, and him. No one else can. Maybe you will be getting your letter soon, too?” Lily said, trying to comfort her sister the best she could, but Petunia pulled away slightly. “I’m sorry, Tuney!” Lily said automatically. Petunia gave one last sorry look at the nearly open letter of Lily’s and tore her eyes away from it. Lily frowned as the only idea that she could think of that was fair to her sister was if she didn’t go. Again, Petunia glared at the letter as though it were some sort of omen and tore her eyes away from it, but a small smile returned to her lips. “What was the return address?” said Petunia, walking over to Lily’s bed and picking up the letter. Severus had said that once you turn eleven, the letter will arrive. Lily turned eleven in January but she had received her letter now because she was still going to a Muggle school. Severus had called Petunia a Muggle once, and when ever they talked about Lily’s parents or his father, he always said Muggle. He even explained to her once that her family had no magic at all, and that she was a Muggle-born witch which isn’t really rare, but isn’t looked upon greatly by some people in the wizarding world. Lily was almost certain that Petunia didn’t have any magic in her, but it was better to have hope. The letter didn’t give them much help as to who had sent it, but Petunia did open and read the whole entire letter before she had the chance. When Petunia threw the letter to the side, giving up on trying to find out a way to send a letter, Lily grabbed it with the first chance she had and read it. The inside had the same swooping, green writing. HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY __________ Headmaster: ALBUS DUMBLEDORE (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Minerva McGonagall Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress She laid the letter down beside her, which was made of the same sort of paper that the envelope was, and reached inside for the list that was told to be in here. Everything Severus had said was true. The hardest thing was to believe was that they’d have to use wands, but here was her proof. Her emerald green eyes reflected the words of the list and she had completely forgotten that Petunia was in the room and her joy filled through her lungs, as though they were about to pop. She let out a small squeal of excitement, instead of the scream she longed to let out, and folded the list and letter so they would fit neatly back into their envelope. The pink door was still open and it would be easy to run down and tell her mum and dad right now, but Petunia let out a small sob, making Lily realize that she still had company. Petunia was holding on to a part of the wax seal that had fallen from the back of the letter. She was holding the serpent and staring at it with tears in her eyes. Lily put her arm around Petunia’s shoulder, but she pulled away completely this time and started for the door. “Wait.” Lily said it before she thought about how it could offend Petunia. “It says that I have to give my answer before the thirty-first of July. How will I give them my reply?” There was a moment of silence between the girls as Petunia let the thought run through her head. She pursed her lips and sighed, just like she always did when she found a problem in thoughts. “That is in two weeks. How will you possibly get the letter to them in time if you don’t even know where they are. If I can’t go, Lily, neither can you. Unfortunately, neither of us know where it is, nor how to get it there. Mum said that she saw an owl deliver it, and then it flew off. Besides, how will you ever get any of that equipment? It’s impossible. If anything, that little friend of yours is just pulling a prank on you . . .” “No he isn’t, Tuney, I just know he isn’t. I’m sure Severus has an owl of his own, I’ll just go over tomorrow and ask if I can borrow it. He must’ve received his letter today as well!” Lily exclaimed, finding all of her answers at once, as though it would be nothing at all, but Petunia had a point. She didn’t know where to go to pick up her equipment, and she doubted that she had the money for a wand. She didn’t even know how much a wand cost, and out of all of her problems, she didn’t even know if her parents would let her go away from home for a whole year. Petunia seemed to be reading Lily’s thoughts and she nodded toward the door across the hall where their parent’s room was. Though they wouldn’t be in there, Lily understood what she meant. Without another word between the two sisters, Petunia left for her own room upstairs and in a few short moments, Lily heard the chair to Petunia’s desk scrape against the floor and then she pushed herself back in. Lily hardly had any time to think about Petunia, and her chances of going to ask her mum and dad if she could go were ruined. The doorbell rang and her father’s cheery voice boomed in welcoming the new guest. Not wanting to interrupt, Lily occupied herself by getting back to her journal. Fifteen minutes had passed and the new guest had not left yet, and Lily could still hear Petunia scrawling something down on the floor above. There was nothing interesting left to put in the small journal, she had already finished writing about her letter. She would have left her room ages ago to see who the guest was, but whenever she stood to walk out of her room, she heard a very strict voice, but all in the same, caring. It was almost like her grandmother. Finally, after voices started raising out of excitement, Lily pushed herself off of the bed for a last time and went to shut her bedroom door, but just as her door clicked, her mother came rushing down the hall and knocked on her door. Lily opened the door and was nearly toppled over when her mother hadn’t realized that she had opened her door. “Oh, Lily dear! There is someone here to see you!” There was no one that Lily could even think of that might be at her home to visit her, but one person. Severus had told her that someone from the magical world would come and tell her everything that she needed to know. Despite her mother’s frantic jumping and small shrieks of joy, Lily ran into the sitting room to see her new guest. Lily stopped almost instantly when she saw the woman that was sitting on her sofa looking strict and stiff, but very soft and she was smiling. Her violet robes were draping the floor and her matching, pointed hat had silver stars on it. Her hair was wrapped tightly on the back of her head and not a single strand of hair fell out of place, but her square spectacles hung on the edge of her nose, showing her soft eyes. She couldn’t find anything to say. She was too excited and wanted to know everything that she didn’t know what question to start with. “Lily Anne Evans?” The woman spoke before Lily did, and she had the same voice that Lily had heard before, but it matched her perfectly. Lily nodded her head and then sat in the seat across from her after her mother nudged her on the shoulder. “I am Professor McGonagall from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to which I teach Transfiguration,” the woman said, and Lily’s stomach lurched with excitement. She was right. “You have received a letter telling you that you are a witch and that you will be needing to collect your wizarding supplies.” “Oh yeah! Where do I get those . . . things?” Lily asked suddenly, remembering her voice. “Minerva here told us all about it, Lily.” said her father. “It’s this old pub. You’ve seen it once, but we didn’t believe you. It is in London and is called the Leaky Caldron. Your professor here has taken care of a way for us to get there.” Said her father. This was the most exciting thing that had happened to Lily all summer, besides her sister teasing her and Severus and not getting mad about Lily's 'accidents', this was great! The Professor smiled and stood to look at Lily square in the eye, her head tilting quiet a lot. "What about my money? Does the wizarding world accept my money?" "You mean muggle money? No, I'm afraid not, but Gringotts has a special fund for muggle-borns such as yourself. Your name has been written in the Hogwarts list since you were born, and we have been making arrangements for each student specially so they will feel at home. "These past eleven years the Goblins have been setting your account, sharing among wizards who have past on in years that have not given money to their grandchildren in their will, or by how good the muggle-born acts before he or she finds out that she is a witch! It's almost as if you were being paid for being well mannered and behaved. "Every few months, if the child has behaved and has not done anything too - severe, they receive a sort of bonus. You have plenty of galleons, sickles, and knuts in your account, Miss Evans. All you need is your key." Said McGonagall, breathing at last. Lily was relieved. She was afraid that the woman would pass out soon. Her mother and father were very excited, holding each other’s hands, but it was Petunia that had caught her attention. She was standing just outside the hallway and looked really upset. Lily knew she wasn’t happy that she would be away from her sister, but she really wanted to go! “This isn’t a joke? Is it?” Petunia asked. Their mother and father both jumped at her sudden appearance and looked at Professor McGonagall questionable about their daughter’s words. “I assure you it is no more of a joke than Albus Dumbledore having take leave!” McGonagall burst, a hand upon her chest. She couldn’t believe that a person would ask her that. “Who is Albus Dumbledore?” Said Lily, sitting with her legs crossed now, acting more mature than her eleven-year-old self. McGonagall raised an eyebrow and nearly smiled, proud to be the one to inform Lily on her stupidity. “ Professor Dumbledore, Ms. Evans. He is the greatest wizard to walk the Wizarding World! Hogwarts’ headmaster of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Surely you must have read your school letter already? “Yes! Yes, of course,” Lily said hurriedly, “I didn’t know he was that great, Professor.” “The best of the rest, Ms. Evans. Now, I understand you have thousands of questions to ask, most eleven-year-old like yourself do, but I’m afraid that there are many more muggle-borns out there and I really must attend to them as well. Young Mr. Snape has received a letter himself today, he will aid you to Diagon Alley, I’m sure. Good day, Lily. Mr. and Mrs. Evans.” McGonagall raised from the tan couch and smiled at Petunia. “Thank you, Professor!” Lily called from behind the elderly woman. McGonagall went through the back door this time, and then there was a faint pop! which Petunia nearly jumped out of her seat for. Lily smiled ear to ear. She would be going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! She would go to a magical town to buy all of her school supplies. She would be going with Severus, her best friend. She was a witch! ****** Yeah, . I hope you liked it, and don't kill me for not posting! I kinda forgot, and I am going to post regularly on this if I can! Love ya'll lots if you give me Feedback! Re: Lily Evans and the Secrets of the Magical World
CHAPTER TWO The Leaky Cauldron Lily had been so excited the past week that she hadn't even noticed how peculiar her sister had been acting. Petunia had been extra nice to Lily and smiling every morning that it seemed odd. Well, it would have if she hadn't been paying so much attention to her own happiness. The first thing she had done was run to Severus' house to tell him that he had been right all along. He had been very happy for her, and as promised, his mother would be taking them to their first Diagon Alley trip, which would be very soon. "Are you all ready, Lily dear?" Lily's father had asked earlier that morning. September the first would be in two weeks and she would be going to Diagon Alley tomorrow, and she couldn't wait until she had received her wand! However, her room was spotless and all that was left was the furniture (she was so excited!) She had to dig through her trunk everyday just to wear something decent - having to repack it later. "I can't believe it has been a week and still nothing has come!" Petunia complained. They had gone out to eat at their favorite restaurant and Lily had nearly forgotten. "What hasn't come, Tuney?" asked Lily as she sipped her mushroom soup from her large spoon. Petunia's eyes widened and she turned to face the window with a small smile plastered onto her face. "Nothing, Lily. I was just talking to myself," she said and then continued with her own meal. Their parents looked from one daughter to the other and then their father had stood to take the bill. ***** "Turn left here, Mr. Evans," said a very uptight and prestigious woman, also known as Mrs. Snape. Mr. Evans did as she had said and then she pointed to the side of the road to let him know that he needed to pull over. "I've forgotten how poorly this place looked," Lily said aloud and Severus had shot her a warning glance. Whenever they were around his mother he really didn't like to talk. He was wearing an oddly colorful vest today, she suspected that his normal clothes were in the wash, and a pair of pants that looked to be too high and she could see his ankles. Petunia looked at him in utter despise as her parents tried to stay away from the mother and child. Mrs. Snape looked down at Lily as if she couldn't believe what her son's friend had just said. "Is there anything wrong with poorly?" said Mrs. Snape as they had walked into the Leaky Cauldron. Her eyes were staring blankly at Lily as if she couldn't stand having a muggle-born child around her. Severus had told her before that his mother didn't really like Lily's sort, but she was happy to escort them to Diagon Alley. The old pub was very poorly looking, just as Lily had said, but that didn't stop her from loving it. For the first time in her life she felt as if magic was in the air and that she actually belonged somewhere where everyone was like her. Old witches and wizards were sitting at dusty tables drinking funny things that bubbled over their mugs or shined scarlet on the inside with every sip they took. The bartender smiled as they walked in. He was a funny man, with a baldhead and only one tooth, but he had stopped cleaning his counter long enough to walk over to them. "New student's at Hogwarts I presume, Mrs. Snape?" he said. "And this must be Severus, your son? It's very nice to meet you. I'm afraid, however, I've never seen anyone like you here before," he had been referring to Lily and her parents. Petunia hadn't come; she had been at home sulking too much and had shouted at her parents to leave her alone. "I'm Jim Evans, and this is my wife, Rose," said Mr. Evans. "I'm Lily, and I'm a first year, too!" Lily said excitedly. A few people glanced at them and smiled at the red head child along with the greasy haired family beside her. Tom nodded and then continued to talk to Mrs. Snape in whispers. "Yes, the child is a mudblood." Mrs. Snape had said rather loudly. Everyone in the shop had stopped drinking to look at what the ruckus was about and stared at the woman as if she was something nasty. Severus looked disgusted in the way his mother had acted and cringed at what she had said. "Don't call Lily that, mum. Please," said Severus, and Lily had realized that when Mrs. Snape had said mudblood, she was referring to her. Lily was about to ask Snape what a mudblood was but his mother had turned on him quickly. "Don't worry, honey, I don't mean anything by it, but when you get to school I expect you to hang around the right sort of bunch that your father and I would appreciate." "Now, now, I heard that the Princes were a long line of Hufflepuffs' before you-" Tom the barman had started, but Mrs. Snape hadn't wanted to hear it. "It's been a long time since I've been at Diagon Alley, Tom, and I would appreciate it if you would show me how to maneuver the bricks again." Mrs. Snape had said even louder than her insult toward Lily and then Tom gave up trying to be reasonable and resigned, leading the small group to a door in the back. As they walked Lily made sure to walk by Severus. "What is a mudblood, Sev?" Lily asked curiously. She didn't think it sounded very nice. "Nothing you need to worry about," said Severus, "I've told you once before, and you defiantly aren't a mudblood. You're too nice to be a mudblood." "That's all very nice and all," said Lily, "but what is a mudblood?" Severus sighed and gave up in trying to keep it from her again, though she couldn't remember him telling her before. "A mudblood is a term for someone with dirty blood. You don't have any lines of magical blood in your family so that's what some people, very rude people, call a mudblood, because you have muggle blood in your stream." 'Oh," said Lily sadly. She didn't like that word. It seemed rather hateful and was glad that Severus would never say it to her. At least she wouldn't walk into Hogwarts without a friend. They had gone through the door that Tom had lead them to and then he pulled out his wand to show Mrs. Snape a combination on a brick wall that blocked them from going anywhere. The only way out was where they had come in and she watched Tom intently as he moved his wand on each brick. She was expecting to hear a bunch of nonsense words and a few sparks, but nothing of the sort happened. He didn't even say anything! Soon he had pocketed his wand and then they waited no longer than three seconds before the real magic had happened. The brick wall had started to fold into itself, starting with a small hole in the middle, and then growing wider and wider until there was a sort of market place in their view. Both Lily and Severus had looked at Diagon Alley before them in amazement and she held his hand with nervousness. She could feel his grip tighten but he didn't pull away. The first thing they had seen was a tall, marble white building that looked as if it were nearly about to fall in the middle of the square, but it was beautiful and had very tiny people on the front steps. "Welcome to Diagon Alley, Lils." Said Severus, squeezing her hand in comfort. She let out an excited squeal, not believing this could be true, but not wanting to wake up from an awesome dream, and jumped. "Come on! Lets go," she called and then both Severus and Lily ran onto the cobblestone street. I hope you liked that. I am so sorry that I haven't updated this fic, but I just was sort of depressed that Harry Potter was over, but I think that depression is over now and I can now officially post with joy again! Please leave feedback!Last edited by ginnypotter19; December 2nd, 2007 at 5:53 am. |

Re: Lily Evans and the Secrets of the Magical World
CHAPTER THREE Diagon Alley The tall, marble white building had turned out to be a bank called Gringotts, the one that Professor McGonagall had told Lily about. "Cheer up, Sev, we're going to be going to Hogwarts soon!" said Lily, noticing her friend's sullen face. Mrs. Snape had been walking far behind them and nodding at passer-by that she knew. Severus smiled and she let go of his hand to run up the steps. He followed her and Mrs. Snape had noticed. "Severus Snape, get back here this instant!" she called for her son, and he had fallen back a bit. Lily stopped and turned in surprise. She had met Severus' mother on a few occasions, but she had never been this obnoxious. Lily's mother had stopped and tried to reach for the other woman's arm but she had pulled away, almost looking revolted that she had tried to touch her. They whispered a few things to one another and then when they had finished her father had given them a faint smile. "Come on, Lily, lets wait for them inside," said Severus as he grabbed her arm and brought her inside and past the little people, which Lily had realized that they weren't people. ("They're goblins, you won't want to make them mad," said Severus.) As they walked inside without their parents they saw that the inside was just as full of marble as the outside had been, but there were more goblins all around the place, scurrying about with paperwork and jangling keys. "Wow," Lily mouthed but Severus could see that her excitement couldn't be hidden. He had been excited to go to Diagon Alley, too, his mother had never taken him whenever she did come for some shopping, but Lily had never witnessed anything magical before. "Little ones shouldn't be in her unsupervised," said a particularly short goblin with a high stack of papers. It was hard for Lily to see him, but he had a very squeaky voice. "Where are you parents?" it asked again. "They're outside," said Severus, "we're waiting for them to stop arguing." "Are there many like you? Or do you all just stay around the bank?" Lily had asked rather quickly. She was very excited, but she could see Severus s****** in the corner of her eye. The goblin glared at her warningly and started to walk away. "Make sure your parents come in soon." "I don't understand. What did I do wrong?" Lily felt bad for insulting the goblin, but her father had always said never be afraid to ask a question, even if you already know the answer. But she never got an answer, their parents had come in and Mrs. Snape pushed her way through the group and up to the counter up front. "I'm here for Severus Snape and Lily Evans," she said, pulling out two keys, her parents must have handed her Lily's while they were outside. The goblin she had been talking to have to have been one of the tallest there and had white hairs coming out from his ears making him look very old. He inspected the keys very carefully before smiling a very sharp-toothed, yellow smile. "Vault 735 and vault 670. Griphook, did you hear?" An even shorter goblin than the last had come up and she had realized that his fingernails were exceptionally long. "I heard," he said. "Come along now." The children followed as their parents walked behind, but Lily's parents were stopped by the goblin at the counter. "I'm sorry, but muggles may not pass through those doors." "But they're my parents," said Lily she was scared that she would have to go alone. Severus looked sorry for Lily. "Don't the need to help her get her money?" he said, but the goblin shook his head and the children gave up. "Hurry up, please." Griphook, the tiny goblin, had said and she noticed that he had a lamp with him now. Lily nodded and took hold of Severus' hand again; she was starting to realize that there was something exciting around every corner. The had walked in a door and instead of seeing more marble and glistening walls the light was by fire torches on the wall and the rest seemed to be dripping with water. They had gone inside a large cave but she could see a cart that would soon be taking her to her vault. She didn't know how they would get there but Severus jumped into the cart, helping the little goblin in. Mrs. Snape had crawled elegantly into the cart next to her son, leaving Lily on the side, she had expected that Griphook would be driving the cart, though; he was too short to see over the edge! Before she could say anything about it, however, the cart started to move slowly forward and then Lily and Severus both went into instant screams once it had dipped down so deep into the cave. Griphook wasn't controlling the cart. Magic was! They turned left, right, in the middle, left again, and then right. It was like a never-ending maze, though Lily had seen giant doors with large numbers above them and thought that those might be the vaults. There was a monstrous roar somewhere behind her and she almost thought something may be chasing them, but Severus whispered in her ear, "It's only a dragon." "Is there really a dragon here?" Lily asked. She had hundreds of questions she wanted to ask and was glad that Griphook had decided to answer her when she asked. "Oh, yes. You'd be mad to ever rob Gringotts. There are all sorts of enchantments and monsters here and not one has ever survived." Lily gulped and squeezed her friend’s hand, he knew how to comfort her, and then they finally came to a stop. "Vault 670, uh, Ms Evans please." Griphook had climbed out of the cart and tumbled slightly before balancing himself once again. Lily let go of Severus' hand and crawled over the side of the cart carefully; afraid her legs might collapse beneath her. "Stand back, please," said the little goblin and Lily did as she was told. Mrs. Snape had made Severus stay in the cart, even when he had tried getting out. She had also found out why Griphook may have had the abnormally long fingernails. He opened her door using them, sliding them through a crack. The locks had started to pull from the middle and into the sides where she was sure by the hissing sounds they were being refurbished for future robbers. Griphook noticed the grimace on her face as she thought of what may happen to anyone who had tried to rob her and smirked. “If anyone besides me would have done that their finger would have been eaten by Flesh Eating Acid and grow until nothing was left.” Lily was a lovely shade of green. There was a small keyhole and Griphook placed her key inside it and turned it the other way you’d turn any normal house hey. The door instantly fell downward and revealed a small mound of bronze, silver, and gold coins. “Take a few handfuls and hop back into the cart.” Lily did as she was told and sat next to Severus again. She couldn’t help but notice he had blushed and stared at her little coin purse. The cart started up again and they started to go even further down the cave and when it had stopped again Griphook and Mrs. Snape stepped out and when Severus had to climb out, too, she gently pushed him back down and smiled tightly. She had come back with a purse even less bulging than Lily’s and she had realized why she didn’t want Severus to follow Lily. The ride back up had been quiet and less exciting because of Mrs. Snape’s fowl mood, but when they had reached the marble floors again Lily ran up to her parents and hugged them tightly. “You should see all of the odd coins, mummy! Do you think Tuney will like to collect some?” Lily asked thinking about her sister because she loved to collect coins. Severus and his mother came in behind her and Jim stood out. “Eileen, have you thought about it?” he said, standing next to Severus. Eileen, Lily had never known her first name and wondered how her father had knew, nodded curtly and pulled her son aside. “You’re going to stay here with… these people, while I go home to get things ready for your father when he gets home. They’ll bring you home, too.” Eileen rehearsed to her son and he looked up. This was his first trip to Diagon Alley, too, and his mother was already planning on leaving him. “You and your little…friend here can spend the day together.” The two children looked at each other with the slightest bit of shock and then Lily smiled at Severus as he finally put two and two together and realized they’d get to spend the day shopping for Hogwarts without his mother. “What do you think we need first?” asked Lily excited to get her wand. “We really should wait for our wands, give us something exciting to look forward to you know?” Lily nodded in agreement and they ran outside of the bank and back onto the cobblestone street. It seemed even more witches and wizards had come to shop, old ones, middle-aged ones, and even some that were around her age. “Let’s get our books first, they must be more important than anything besides our wands of course." They left to the nearest shop that had a giant book as a sign that read Flourish and Blotts. The inside was comfortable and smelled of peppermint, it reminded Lily of her grandmother's house. ("We're grade one, Sev, not two," Lily reminded Severus.) Once they had left the shop with mounds of books, her mother had come up and pointed them to the clothing store called Madame Malkin’s and ushered them inside taking both children’s books. “We might need to make yours extra big for years to come, dear,” said Madame Malkin as she was looking at Severus’ appearance. Both Lily and Severus found a pedestal and as soon as they had stepped up a tape measure had started to measure the distance between Lily’s armpit and ankle. “I would like some of those,” said Lily looking at a cart of red and gold gloves with scarves. “Those are for second years and above dear,” said Madame Malkin without looking up, “those are Gryffindor colors.” Severus looked at Lily unsurely; he had been eyeing the silver and green when they had walked in. The bell that announced a new customer ringed as the woman had finished sewing the hem of Lily’s robes and a very proud and powerful looking woman walked in; there wasn’t much difference between her and Mrs. Snape. “Sirius Orion Black, if you do not stop this instant you will not be going to Hogwarts!” said the woman. Two boys had pushed passed her and the oldest one must have been Sirius because he quickly glared at his mother before looking at the rack of gloves. “These red ones will do, how much do you think they are?” said Sirius, walking up to Madame Malkin with a pair in his hands. The seamstress took the gloves from his grasp and placed them on the counter where they would stay. Lily had the feeling the two had seen each other many times. “C’mon, Reg,” Sirius said without being disturbed with his host’s attitude, he seemed to be expecting it. “Let’s see if we can get you fitted, too! You can go to Hogwarts a few years sooner!” and he ran up and took Severus’ place on the pedestal. Lily folded her robes and handed them to Madame Malkin, who placed both sets of robes in a very nice box, and watched as the boy winked at her. He was very handsome with his long, black hair and grey eyes. Severus looked at him disgusted and pulled Lily by the arm and led her outside. “What was that for, Sev?” Lily asked after she had picked up the box of new robes she had already dropped. “It’s time for us to get our wands, and we don’t need to be there anymore,” he said, looking into the window and staring at the handsome boy that was acting very disobedient when his mother was showing him how nice he would look in a pair of silver and green gloves. “Lets go, Lils, I want to get my wand!” They waited in the dark shop of Olivander’s the wand maker as he was taking care of a customer ahead of them; he was the only one in the room besides the two of them. He had messy black hair and hazel eyes; she wouldn’t’ have known that if he hadn’t turned around and winked at her as well. Severus nearly had a fit about that as well, but he couldn’t pull her out this time. They hadn’t received their wands yet. “I see, you are a tricky customer, Mr. Potter,” said Mr. Olivander, an old wizened man with white hair growing all over and pasty, yellow eyes that shined like the moon. “This one, I see, has possibilities.” He handed the young boy a long stick and Lily squealed at the sight of his wand and he looked at her amused. Mr. Olivander ignored her, though Severus was keeping a close eye on her once the boy had taken such an interest in her, and then the boy flicked his wand gently. His hair had stood taller than it had before and he smiled surely once golden sparks had come out from the tip of his wand. The wand maker took his wand and placed it back in the box and handed it to him. “Mahogany. Eleven inches. Pliable. It has a little more power and it is excellent for Transfiguration.” Said the old man. The even messier haired boy handed him some gold coins and left the old store with a new wand in his possession. “Come in. Come in.” Lily and Severus stepped up to the counter and he took care of Severus first. Eight wands later and he finally agreed with an eight inch, oak wand. “Now you, I am not familiar with. You must be muggle-born?” Mr. Olivander had asked her. Lily nodded shyly, for the first time she found it hard to speak. “I thought so. Lets see what we can do for you then,” he stepped back and looked for a wand lost with the hundreds of others in the many rows and shelves in the back behind the counter. He came back shortly with a box and handed her the wand that had been inside. “Try this one, yew wood, twelve inches, great for Transfiguration.” Nothing happened and he took it out of her hand. He handed another and before she had the chance to feel it he took it from her hand once again. It had seemed that she had tried nearly every wand in the store but finally he had taken one from somewhere high in the shelves. “Try this. Ten and a quarter inches. Long. Swishy, and made of willow. It’s great for charm work.” The same thing had happened to her as it had to Severus and that other boy. It seemed as if there had been a strong wind that was blowing her back and her wand had started to protrude golden sparks. “That’s it then,” he placed it back in the box and then handed it to her. “That will be eleven sickles,” and she paid him happily. Both children ran outside once again to meet up with her parents; they had bought the rest of their supplies and even a surprise for Lily. They had bought her a kitten! “Oh thank you, mommy! Daddy!” and she took the kitten from their grasp and shared it with Severus so they can pet it on their way out. Lily had treated everyone to a Fluorine Fortascue’s ice cream and even the kitten had turned out sticky afterward. They had left Diagon Alley at last (“The day has been full and we still need to get back to your sister,” said her father.) They warm afternoon had turned to dusk and both children fell asleep on the way, but every good day has to come to an end. They had to drop Severus off and Mr. Snape, a burley, mean looking man, had come to pick him up. (“Poor boy,” said her mother.) When they arrived to their own home Lily had let her kitten lose, deciding to name it tomorrow, and ran to her room to pack all of her new school things and see what she had gotten. Petunia, however, had never come to see her, but she could hear her talking to her parents in the other sitting room. She sounded upset but when their mother had asked what the matter was, she never said. Last edited by ginnypotter19; December 2nd, 2007 at 8:54 pm. |

Re: Lily Evans and the Secrets of the Magical World
CHAPTER FOUR The Letter Lily's room had grown progressively cleaner and emptier as the days came closer to leave for Hogwarts and then it finally had all been packed in two trunks and put into a corner. She would be leaving tomorrow and was finding it very hard to calm down whenever her parents had brought up the subject. Petunia, however, had been just as secretive as before, but what was even worse, she hadn't been talking to Lily much at all, and whenever she had, she was rude and always made snide remarks. Today she was at Vernon's though, her boyfriend's house, and would be gone until super. Severus would be coming over to read some of the books with Lily, though, so she had to make snacks for the both of them and set up some things at the table. After she had set out some chips, cookies, and a batch of brownies her mother had made with her, her father had come out and took one of the brownies. "You're little friend is here, Lils," he said, winking at his daughter. She laid Hogwarts, A History in front of her seat and ran to welcome her friend in. "Welcome, Sev," she boomed and closed the door behind her friend. He smiled and welcomed himself in, dropping his coat onto the back of the couch where Lily had last left hers. "Hey, I never did get the chance to see your wand, may I see it?" he asked. She nodded and led him into the kitchen. "Wait here while I run and go get it," she said and then ran upstairs; she had tried to show it to Petunia the night before but she showed no interest in it and Lily had forgotten it up there. It was a good thing Severus had reminded her or else she would have forgotten about it completely. When she had made it upstairs Petunia's door had been shut. Lily was hesitant as to if she should go in there or not, it was her sister's privacy and she had always been taught not to invade it, but she really needed her wand. After thinking about it for a while and hesitating to twist the doorknob, she bit her lip and welcomed herself in. The room was a mixture of pink and white colors, her mattress covered in flowered bed sheets, and then Lily saw the boxed wand on her sister's desk. She had gone over to pick it up when she heard a knock at the door and then it creaked open to reveal Severus. "What are you doing up here, Sev," she asked surprised. "I told you that I would be right back." "Your mum was in there and trying to show me baby pictures. I thought I'd spare you the humiliation," he smiled and walked to her side. She blushed and went to leave the room but he hadn't followed. "Come on, Sev, we shouldn't be in here." He grabbed something that had been poking out from under Petunia's desk mat and Lily recognized it right away as a letter from Hogwarts, but it had been addressed, unlike hers. "It's from that Dumbledore guy," Severus pointed out and Lily silently nodded and walked up to him, reaching her hand out to take it away. He didn't need to see it. He didn't give it to her, but instead he pulled it out of the thick envelope and read it. Lily stood next to him and read over his shoulder to see what it had said; the damage had already been done. Dear Ms. Evans, I have received your letter and have given it my full attention and quiet a bit of thought, but I'm afraid to say, under rules of the Ministry, that we cannot accept you in our humble school of witchcraft and wizardry. Only those with magic in their blood may attend and unfortunately, you do not. With humble regards, Albus Dumbledore Lily felt a tear run down her cheek as Severus had folded the letter and placed it carefully back into the thick envelope. "I was only wondering how a muggle could receive a Hogwarts letter. To be quiet frank, I don't see how she could have sent it," he said and then placed it back where he had found it. He was very cunning and Lily had been afraid of how many times he must have done this before. "Sh-she only wants to go to our school," Lily said as she hiccupped slightly, she could never handle situations that made her nervous well. "Well, Lils, she can't. She's just a muggle and we all know that muggles can't go to Hogwarts." "But she tried, and he was very kind about it," said Lily, knowing that her sister mustn't be too mad. She now knew why her sister had been upset all week, but it still didn't explain why she had been avoiding Lily these past couple of weeks. Both children made sure that there was no evidence that they hadn't entered the room; Lily had been afraid they'd get caught, and Severus had even done some accidental magic to pick up a stack of papers they had dropped on their way out. "You won't tell, will you, Sev?" Lily asked as they made there way back to the kitchen table with her wand at hand. He nodded and helped himself to a handful of chips. She sighed, relieved, and then pulled her wand out of the pretty box. "Wow, that must have some unicorn hair in it," he said, stroking the smoothness of it. Lily laughed and then opened up Hogwarts, A History. They had only made it to the third chapter when Petunia had arrived home and it was time for Severus to go home. Re: Lily Evans and the Secrets of the Magical World
CHAPTER FIVE Platform 9 ¾ The day had finally come when Lily would separate from her mother and father until the Christmas holidays. She felt bad that she hadn't even attempted to say anything to her sister about her school, Petunia was very happy for Lily getting to go to her new school, though she hadn't showed it in a very long time. They had traveled without Mrs. Snape this time and had barely found the platform when another boy and his family had helped them out (he seemed very nice and had watery blue eyes.) When they had ran through the wall, which sent shivers down Lily's spine once she had realized that she hadn't crashed and went right through a brick wall, they did spot Severus leaving the train after he had stored his trunk onto the scarlet steam engine. Lily was amazed at its beauty and the steam coming from the top. It almost seemed like those from a children's story, but more magical. She had to tear her eyes away from the train, however, when her sister had come in through the gate behind her and she nearly fell over. "I'm sorry, Tuney, I didn't mean to be in your way," said Lily calmly as she straightened herself up and watched as her older sister turned away without saying a word. Lily found it very odd that her sister was now completely ignoring her, but she was so afraid that she may have found out they had read the letter she kept her mouth shut and walked beside her parents. "Look at all of these people, Jim," Lily's mother said as she herself had come back from already loading her trunks onto the train. It was magnificent on the inside with red colors and golden trims, but, as her mother had meant, there were many students trying to reach a compartment and Lily wasn't entirely sure if she'd have the compartment all to herself, and Severus, of course, if he wanted to join her. As her parents continued to gaze at the sights around them and watch as more people came through the gates that they had entered (they were bricks on one side but when you walked through it was as if you had come through the other side of a yard) she couldn't help but notice that Petunia had stepped away from everyone and stood alone. It was almost as if she was invisible. People had bumped into her with trunks and some even gave her dirty looks. Those were the ones who knew that Petunia didn't belong here. It wasn't long until Lily's older sister had broken into tears and she ran up to comfort her sister. She knew exactly what was wrong and Lily couldn't hide it anymore, her sister needed condolences right now and Lily was the only one who understood. Once she had walked up to her sister Petunia took one look at her and turned sharply, not paying Lily the slightest bit of attention. Lily had gone into silent tears. They were standing alone and were only a little way from their parents. "I'm sorry, Tuney, I'm sorry! Listen-" Lily grabbed her sister's hand and held it tightly as if never to let go, but Petunia, much to Lily's surprise, had tried to pull away. "Maybe once I'm there - no, listen, Tuney!" Petunia was insisting on pulling away and keeping away from Lily. She didn't understand. She hadn't done anything wrong. "Maybe once I'm there, I'll be able to go to Professor Dumbledore and persuade him to change his mind!" "I don't - want - to - go!" Petunia was struggling to get her hand out of her sister's tight grasp with each word she said. She took a breath and glared at the red head before her. "You think I want to go to some stupid castle and learn to be a - a -" she couldn't finish it. Lily was in silent tears and looked up at Petunia, hoping to learn what she had done wrong but still the older girl didn't meet her gaze. She looked around the station and saw little girls with kittens and boys with owls roaming around as they tried to say goodbye to their clingy parents and then she finally found the words she had been looking for. "You think I want to be a freak?" Lily had looked up at her sister in terror and then her tears had become more noticeable and louder, but their parents never turned around to see what the matter was. Petunia had finally received her other hand. "I'm not a freak!" said Lily. "That's a horrible thing to say." "That's where you're going," Petunia relished. "A special school for freaks. You and that Snape boy... weirdoes, that's what you two are. It's good that you're being separated from normal people. It's for our safety." Lily didn't know where this had been coming from. She thought her sister had been happy for her, though she hadn't gotten in herself, she should be happy for her little sister. Lily glanced around for any help from her parents but they hadn't noticed the two fighting and she turned back to her sister. "You didn't think it was such a freak school," she said in a low, firm voice, "when you wrote to the headmaster and begged him to take you." Lily hadn't known why she said it. She had made Severus promise not to tell her sister but she was angry now and it didn't matter what she said. By the time she had come home for Christmas holidays, Petunia would have forgotten about it. Petunia turned scarlet but her fiery rage was still going strong. "Beg?" she said. "I didn't beg!" "I saw his reply. It was very kind." "You shouldn't have read-,” whispered Petunia, "that was my private- how could you-?" Someone had been calling Lily's name and she quickly turned around to see that Severus had spotted her once more and was waving for her to come over. Remembering the situation at hand, she turned back to her sister. She let out a horrified gasp and cupped her hand over her mouth for a moment before she had spoke again. "That boy found it! You and that boy have been sneaking in my room!" "No - not sneaking, -" said Lily defensively. "Severus saw the envelope, and he couldn't believe a Muggle could have contacted Hogwarts, that's all! He says there must be wizards working under cover in the postal service who take care of-" "Apparently wizards poke their noses in every where!" Petunia cut her off, pale and flushed at the same time. She stammered for words before he finally shouted out, "Freak!" and spat on the ground, flouncing off toward their parents. Lily's face, which had dried tears staining her face, now had fresh ones falling freely. This wasn't how she had hoped to leave for a new place. Her sister thought she was a freak, her parents weren't paying attention to her, and Severus seemed to be getting on her nerves whenever he tried to talk to her. Finally, once Petunia had made sure there was no contact in between the two of them, Lily was finally able to say goodbye to her parents. "Oh, we hope you have such a wonderful time, dear," said her mother as she hugged Lily tightly and then kissed each cheek. Her father gave her a giant bear hug and kissed the top of her head. "You're growing up so fast," he said. "First you're my little girl and now you're my little witch!" Lily laughed slightly and gave her father a kiss on the cheek; she had made sure all trace of tears had vanished once her parents had realized that she really needed to start going. "You make sure that you write every night, OK, Lily dear?" "And don't be hanging around any boys!" "Petunia, aren't you going to say goodbye to your sister, darling?" her mother had asked once she noticed that the two girls hadn't even glanced at one another. Lily stared at Petunia, not knowing what she was expecting. Finally, after a long while, she nodded her head curtly and said, "Goodbye, Lily." Lily slowly nodded her head, too and gave her sister a soft smile. All she wanted to do was go up to her and hug her tightly, but, restraining herself, she said her own goodbye and then boarded onto the train. |

Re: Lily Evans and the Secrets of the Magical World
CHAPTER SIX Hogwarts Express The Hogwarts Express turned slowly around the corner and once it had started to speed up Lily finished waving goodbye to her parents and sister and then slowly ventured to her compartment, only to find it vacated by four other boys. They were laughing and eating sweets she had never seen before. She did recognize two of the most handsome boys; one from the wand shop and the other one had been there when her robes were being tailored. When she walked in all of them had looked up at her and noticed her presence. "Look here, boys," said the one with the messiest hair, the one from the wand shop. "I told you that we'd be sharing with a girl." He elbowed the boy sitting next to him and they laughed about something. Lily didn't feel much for laughing right now and she pushed past their propped feet and sat next to the window. "Aw, someone isn't too happy, James. I don't think we should bother her," said one of the boys Lily hadn't seen before. He had a kind smile and sandy blond hair and though he wasn't as attractive as the other two Lily noticed that he had looked better than the short and round one that seemed to be doing more laughing than talking. She smiled faintly at him and then stared out the window. It's too bad, she thought, that my first trip to Hogwarts won't be as exhilarating as I had thought it would be. "You're right, Remus," said James, he was the one with the messy black hair. "But I have this feeling we've met before?" She nodded and he practically beamed. "You're that girl that was there when I bought my wand!" She really didn't feel as if she needed to answer because not even a second later the other boy lit up as he remembered too. "Yeah! I saw her as my brother and I went to buy our robes at Madame Malkin's. Am I right?" "Yeah," Lily said half-heartedly. It wasn't until she had said anything did they really wonder what was the matter with her. The one who had suggested leaving her alone earlier, Remus, frowned and seated next to her and offered her some chocolate. She smiled gratefully and took it. "What is the matter?" Remus asked and after she had taken a bite of the chocolate bar. She took her time in chewing it and then swallowed it. It didn't taste like any ordinary chocolate she had ever had before but seemed darker, almost richer than the richest chocolate she could buy. "Me and my sister don't get along very well anymore." Said Lily at last after her second bite. The others gave one another nervous glances and then she frowned as James snorted. "My best friend got me to read one of her private letters and I told her...and...She called me a freak." Lily treated the word of greatest dislike; almost like the time Severus had when his mother called her a mudblood. "I take it you're Muggle-born then?" James asked between snorts of laughter. She nodded but couldn't stop glaring at him; she really didn't like how rude he was being. "I don't see what is so funny." "You're upset because you had a fight with your Muggle sister. Don't you think it's sort of pathetic?" "Not in particular. We've never fought like this," Lily said curiously as if she thought everyone got along fabulously with one's sibling. Sirius gave James something that strangely resembled licorice and he tore the tip of it off as he watched her stare at his candy. "Want some?" he offered. "My mum made it. She says that the trolley takes forever and she didn't have time to make me any breakfast." Lily refused the licorice wand, for what she had presumed that it was in the shape of a wand, and he sighed. "Listen, kid. You're really going to learn how to let petty things like that go. You're sister is always going to be jealous and you're much better than that. Look at who is going to grow up to be a successful witch." Lily smiled slightly but she didn't like that he had called her 'kid'. He was in her year! Remus scooted back over to his friends and when she hadn't joined them they started a game of cards; they blew up if they sat there for too long. James had brought them, claiming that they were a birthday gift from his mother. She supposed he was one of those full blood wizards. After a while the boys had to leave to give Lily some privacy to change into her robes and when they had come back, they were fully dressed as well, though their ties weren't tied and their shirts were un-tucked. The trolley lady had come by and was confused at how they had already had so much candy but smiled politely, told them they would be arriving to Hogwarts soon, and continued her rout. It hadn't been until she saw the only familiar face she knew pass her compartment did she start to cry. She faced the window so the other boys wouldn't see and then she heard the door slide open. She glanced and her heart pounded slightly when she noticed that it was Severus and then turned back to the window. "I don't want to talk to you," she said harshly and she saw his reflection freeze. The other boys barely took notice that he was there. "Why not?" Severus asked at last, continuing to stand there. "Tuney h-hates me. Because we saw that letter from Dumbledore." "She's only a-" Severus started but Lily had wiped her eyes trying not to be noticed. "But we're going!" Severus continued. She could see the guilt sketched into his face and her stomach did a flip. She straightened up and nodded, thinking of what he had said and thought about becoming a witch. Both he and James were right. She smiled and Severus did too as he noticed Lily wasn't sad anymore and wiped her tears away. "You'd better be in Slytherin," Severus said, nodding in her direction with a friendly smile. It was at these few words that the other boys had finally taken notice that he was here and decided to drop in their conversation. "Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" James asked Sirius with a laugh but his friend didn't even smile at the other boy's joke this time. "My whole family have been in Slytherin," Sirius said in dismal. James seemed astounded and raised his eyebrows. "Blimey," he said, "and I thought you seemed all right!" Sirius grinned broadly and perked up a bit. "Maybe I'll break tradition. Where are you heading if you've got the choice?" James didn't even think about his answer. He lifted an imaginary sword. "Gryffindor, 'where dwell the brave heart!' Like my dad." James said in a much deeper voice than he had and Severus made almost a choking noise, but Lily knew he was trying to hold back a laugh. "Got a problem with that?" "No," Severus sneered. "If you'd rather be brawny than brainy-" "Where're you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?" Sirius announced loudly. James started to roar with laughter and Lily flushed at the sight of him. "Come on Severus," she said, "let's find another compartment." "Oooooo..." she heard James and Sirius say behind her as they imitated her and then James tried to trip Severus. "See you later, Snivellus!" and then someone, Lily suspected was James, slammed the door behind them. "I'm sorry, Lily." Said Severus as they walked through the halls to find another seat. She shook her head and sighed heavily. "I can't believe those jerks," she said. "Let's go in here." They walked into a compartment with someone already in it but she took no notice; she was too angry. "Watch the lot of them all become Slytherin, that'll teach them." "What about your trunk?" Severus asked her suddenly. She had to think about what he had meant and then she sighed, punching her lap with her little fist. Severus sat next to her and grabbed her hand before she went to hit herself again. "I'll get it once the train stops." She smiled at him and then hugged her friend. Finally, when they had let go, she noticed the other pair in the compartment with them. "Hello." Lily blushed. "Hi," said the other two in unison and then giggled furiously. Re: Lily Evans and the Secrets of the Magical World
Feedback is always nice! Oh, and I forgot to mention, I am using the book when we use scenes such as the last two that were in the actual Harry Potter books, so about 90% of the dialog in the last two chapters do not belong to me.
