Hi Everyone,

So it's been a bit quiet for you all recently on the timings of CoS closing. I've not been online for about two months now, for a host of reasons. Lots of things are happening at the moment that have prevented me from being on CoS for some time and may continue you do so for the foreseeable future.

The good news (if it is such) is that CoS won't be closing when I had planned (end of July). I've far too much going on in my life to dedicate time to it, so for now I am going to pencil in the Autumn months to explore feasibility.

Continue to talk about the closure here and just carry on for now and watch this space. I'll update when I have some firm dates on when things can change.

CoS Graphics Contest v9
Welcome to CoS Graphics Contest





General Rules
The following rules apply to all sections of the graphics contest:
  • All graphics must be your own original work. You may use pre-bases though.
  • All graphics must abide CoS Forums family friendly rules. Violation of these rules will be reported promptly.
  • You may include brushes, textures, text etc unless otherwise told.
  • You may animate unless otherwise told.


Challenges:


Theme Challenges:    

  
The Theme Challenges include four categories, based on their size (see Size Guideline):
- Theme Avatar
- Theme Signature
- Theme Banner
- Theme Hanging
  • There will be different subjects for each type of entry.
  • The winner of each category will be able to suggest a subject for the next week. When you submit an entry for a theme section, please tell us what subject you would like to use for that category if your entry is voted the winner. If you win, but you didn't specify a subject for the next week, the maintainers of the thread will choose for you. Make sure you give a subject for each theme category you enter into.
  • The same rules will apply to all four categories, the only difference will be the size of the image.
  • Images may be any shape provided they are within the Size Guidelines (see below).
  


Base Challenge:    

  
The Base Challenge involves making a graphic using the image provided as a starting point. The size of the graphic will be defined for each week (Avatar, Signature, Banner or Hanging). The image may need to be cropped and/or resized in order to fit the size guidelines.
  • You must use the image that is provided.
  • You may not use any other images in the graphic.
  • The subject for the Base Challenge will be chosen by the maintainers of this contest each week.
  


Text Challenge:    

  
The Text Challenge involves making a graphic based on a quote from the Harry Potter novels. The size of the graphic will be defined for each week (Avatar, Signature, Banner or Hanging).
  • The graphic must contain at least 3 consecutive words from the quote given.
  • You may only use words that are a part of the quote.
  • We will specify each week if pictures may be included in the text challenge or not.
  • However, when pictures are allowed, the text must be the main focus of the graphic.
  • In weeks when images are allowed, you may still make a graphic that does not include an image. Image use in those weeks is optional.
  • In weeks when images are not allowed, you may still use an image to form a background texture, but the image must not be easily identifiable (for example, fire that has been blurred so it is just varying shades of red and orange). The Graphics Contest maintainers reserve the right to make judgements on what is appropriate and what is inappropriate on a case by case basis.
  • The subject for the Text Challenge will be chosen by the maintainers of this contest each week.
  


Emotional Challenge:    

  
The Emotional Challenge involves making an image based on a given emotion. The size of the graphic will be Avatar, unless not defined otherwise.
  • You must use Harry Potter images (i.e. Harry Potter movie screen caps, Harry Potter artwork, Harry Potter actors/actresses).
  • The icon you make must be connected to the subject given.
  • The subject for the Emotional Challenge will be chosen by the maintainers of this contest each week.
  






Size Guidelines:

Size Gudelines
Avatars:
  • Width: 75 to 125 pixels
  • Height: 75 to 125 pixels
Signatures:
  • Width: 200 to 300 pixels
  • Height: 200 to 300 pixels
Banners: a banner is an image that is wider than it is tall.
  • Width: 200 to 300 pixels
  • Height: 100 to 150 pixels
Hangings: a hanging is an image that is taller than it is wide.
  • Width: 100 to 150 pixels
  • Height: 200 to 300 pixels





Submissions:    

  
Submissions start at 21:00 (9:00 pm) Saturday GMT, and go until 21:00 (9:00 pm) on Friday GMT.
(see F.A.Q. for information on timezones conversion)
  • You may enter as many categories as you wish, one image for each category.
  • You may change your entry while submissions are being accepted. Entries submitted or changed after submissions are closed will not be counted.
  • A notice will be posted in this thread when submissions open or close.
  • If you change an entry the day that submissions end please make a post that you did so. The maintainers of this thread start working hours before closing with tables and such. Its hard to catch last minute changes.
  


Voting:    

  
From 21:00 (9:00 pm) on Friday GMT to 21:00 (9:00 pm) on Saturday GMT.
(see F.A.Q. for information on timezones conversion)
  • All the entries will be displayed in a single post, divided up into the sections.
  • A notice will be posted in this thread when voting begins or ends.
  • You may vote for as many or as few categories as you like. Please only vote once in each category. If you vote twice in a category, only your first vote will be counted.
  






F.A.Q.:    

  
Timezone Conversions:    

  To find out the local time for when the entries are closed for you, you may use the Time Zone Converter.

To use it, uncheck the “Use current date/time” box, then put in the time and date for the GMT time, such as the GMT time for the close of submissions. Then select your time zone from the list on the right hand side, and then click on the “Convert” button. This will tell you what the GMT time will be in your own local time.

You can find a list of free Graphics Programs here.
  


Where can i host my graphics?:    

  
To get all your entries into one post you can host your graphics on websites such as:There are plenty of other picture hosting sites as well.
  


Do I have to be an experienced graphics maker to enter?:    

  
Not at all! We welcome graphics makers of any skill level.
  


Where can I find pictures to use in my graphics?:    

  
This post on Live Journal by Evita82 has a list of lots of sites that provide Harry Potter images.
If you have any dificulty in finding an specific image, you can ask in the thread. We'll do our best to help.

As long as it has to do with Ravenclaw, it's fine. It could be Rowena Ravenclaw, it could be the Ravenclaw crest, it could just be a picture of luna. I like broad topics .
