With the latest news from Jo's site, it's time to open a brand new version.

The latest news being the new Wizard of the Month: Helga Hufflepuff

This is the thread to discuss Jo's site and any updates, or to complain about the lack of updates!

Oooh! Shiny new thread!

You know, it's very interesting that Hufflepuff is associated with food charms. In reading through the lore on the 13 Hallows of Britain, a lot of them have something to do with food. Primarily, they seem to be ways to feed troops during battle. I wonder if that will be significant for DH?

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Thread v.14

I'll repost this picture of Helga Hufflepuff, the new Witch of the Month:

People have been commenting on the red-green imagery of her clothing and jewelry. There is almost every color represented except blue for Ravenclaw.

As far as the special food she is associated with, I immediately thought of the odd peppermint humbugs at the first feast in Book One, and the Treacle Tart in Book 2.

Her cooking prowess reminds me of Molly Weasley, of course.

But there`s blue too! If you go to Jo`s site, you can see her eyes blinking, and their color is definitely blue.

I`m not sure if the appearance between the 13 Hallows is owed the fact that in those times was food very important. Look at how many people starved at that time. But it could also be significant for DH. We saw few people so far that had connections to foot in the story. Naturally Moody, but also Umbridge (with Veritaserum in Harry`s tea) and also Ron and Slughorn.

Even her looks are a bit reminescent of Molly Weasley. Hmmmm...

Could the cup she is holding be Hepzibah Smith's Hufflepuff cup?

I like the links to all 4 founders as previously stated in the previous thread. It's a shame the robe around her neck obscures the necklace.

I would definitely say that that is the Horcrux Cup that Hepzibah Smith inherited, as she is a direct descendent of Helga Hufflepuff.

Given that Hufflepuff is shown with her relic (Cup), I would give just about anything to see a WotM card that shows Rowena Ravenclaw with her relic. *ohpleaseohpleaseohplease*

I think we can take that for sure. It has two handels, like Hufflepuffs described, and it is golden.

So. Will this be our last version before DH? Or will our whining for updates get us at least another thread? Ooh, it's so exciting!

Me too. Rowena's always seemed fairly awesome, so I'd love a WotM card for her. I think she might be left until August, though.

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Thread v.14

My 'inner eye' is telling me that since we're seeing a Founder, that the months of June and July we'll be seeing Salazar Slytherin with his Locket and Godric Gryffindor with his Sword. I'm betting that she'll save Rowena Ravenclaw for August's WotM, since showing her before DH is released would give up a BIG hint for the "unknown Horcrux".

Or we could see Ravenclaw as the final reward for the 3rd Wombat - whenever that may come (*sigh*).

Yes that is also feasible as it is still unsure whether gryffindor's sword is a horcrux or not.

If it goes like it was the last weeks, we will have a new version of this thread a few days before DH.

And I`m think you`re right, we`ll get Rowena for August. That makes me so curious about her relic. 80 days left until we know.

The 13 Hallows of Britain - there are some interesting correlations with the story overall, but I won't get into that here. I highlighted the ones dealing specifically with food.
  1. 'Dyrnwyn, the Sword of Rhydderch the Generous' - Possessing the ability to burst into flame.
  2. 'The Hamper of Gwyddno Garanhir' - Possessing the ability to turn one meal into one-hundred meals.
  3. 'The Horn of Bran' - Possessing the ability to provide any drink.
  4. 'The Chariot of Morgan the Wealthy' - Possessing the ability to travel at great speed to any location.
  5. 'The Halter of Clyno Eiddyn' - Possessing the ability to provide a horse of the seeker's choice.
  6. 'The Knife of Llawfronedd the Horseman' - Possessing the ability to cut enough food for twenty-four men.
  7. 'The Cauldron of Diwrnach the Giant' - Possessing the ability to heat the food for a hero but not a coward.
  8. 'The Whetstone of Tudwal Tudglyd' - Possessing the ability to ensure death would follow wounding.
  9. 'The Coat of Padarn Red-Coat' - Possessing the ability to identify those of noble birth.
  10. 'The Crock of Rhygenydd' - Possessing the ability to provide favourite foods.
  11. 'The Dish of Rhygenydd' - Possessing the ability to provide favourite foods.
  12. 'The Chessboard of Gwenddolau' - Possessing the ability to play by itself.
  13. 'The Mantle of Arthur' - Possessing the ability to make the wearer invisible to any observer.

According to Arthurian legend the treasures could only be used by the King or his representative in battle. So that - and the connection between Hufflepuff and food - kind of makes me wonder if that will be significant.

Thanks for the link, meesha!
There was a thread somewhere at CoS abut the Arturian legends but I couldn`t find it anymore.

I was looking for that too! That was a good thread. There are so many interesting correlations with those legends. Did you know that - according to the legen - "Ron" was the name given to King Arthur's lance?

*ahem* Sorry to get off topic. New wizard of the month! Yay!

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Thread v.14

I did the math on my fingers (Math major in college, but still a bit slow at it...) and realized that if she was doing all the Founders, we wouldn't get to them all before the book came out, so I think you're absolutely right, we will get Ravenclaw in August, well after anyone who cares already knows what the Ravenclaw relic was.

For that matter, though, no one really knows what Gryffindor's relic is, although most hypothesize it was his sword. That is still yet to be determined.

i would imagine that the cup she is holding is the one that harry is looking for.

i like the idea that we may be about to get the founders as the wizard/witch of the month.

do we know who does the drawings?
