Re: Discussion: Remus Lupin's Death

My goodness, this was what I dreaded throughout the whole book! I admit to peeking ahead to see if I could find any mention of his name. I was just so shocked when I read that he'd died, but I had a nagging feeling it might happen when his child was born - I felt like Rowling was setting it up so that he'd live on through his offspring. But though I'm sad, I'm at least comforted by the fact that he died a heroic death fighting for Harry. And I'll always be his fan!

Re: Discussion: Remus Lupin's Death

What I want to know is who killed him and Tonks and whether one died defending the other. I was shocked by both deaths, but felt Remus's was coming. I loved seeing him return and knowing he was with James and Sirius in death.

Me too - I know he, like Sirius and his parents - will always be with Harry no matter what.

Exactly what I was going to say!

"Pathetic," he told George. "Pathetic! With the whole wide world of ear related humor before you, you go for holey?"

I knew this was going to happen. I kind of wish we saw how he and Tonks died, but we found out exactly the same way Harry did.

I would have liked to know how Remus was killed along with Tonks. I thought that was a bit of a let down but I assume there were more important scenes that needed our attention.

she could have gotten him to ask one of the others what happened it would have been a bit more realistix but i suppose everyone else was grieving

I guess he needed to be dead to be with the ones who walk harry through to the woods. It was really strange to me that Tonks died too.

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

It seemed fitting that he should walk with Harry through the forest. It seemed fitting that the marauders (apart from Peter, of course - what a horrible death that was...) should be together with Harry when he walks to his destiny. But I would have liked to know the when, and the where, and the who.

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

As soon as Harry was named godfather I figured Lupin was a goner. At least there was some measure of closure to their relationship during the walk in the forest.

I was really shocked, but also didn't really find it necessary for him to die...

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

I think its sad how, just like Harry, Teddy has to grow up without parents. I was so sad when I found out Lupin died.

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

He wasn't on my 'who I expect will die in DH' list until he asked Harry to be the godfather...then the parallel seemed obvious. This is a coming of age story in many ways, Harry assumes the role Sirius would have and to the best of his ability did play for him. The wheel turns and the torch passes to a new generation.

I thought the opposite.. I just couldn't believe that now Remus was finally happy, giving Harry the honour of being Teddy's godfather in his good mood, he would be killed of..
Though, after Tonks went after him I did have a bad felling about it..

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

I was so sad and angry that Lupin died but when he named Harry godfather I knew he was dead. Somehow I get the feeling that Bellatrix killed Remus and Tonks. The fact that Voldemort used their wedding to insult her and how extremly angry Mrs. Weasley was at her made me get that idea.

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

I can't believe both Tonks and Lupin died. I hope Tonks at least found Lupin before it happened.

Really though, both deaths were underwhelming to me. As much as I love both characters there deaths were not nearly as emotional as other deaths for me. I think its because we didn't see them happen and we really never got to see Harry's reaction to the death of the last Marauder.

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

I thought his death was a bit "matter of fact". I was hoping that since he is more of a supporting minor character than others, not to mention having a closer relationship with Harry than many other minor characters, I thought Harry's grieving for him would be a bit more extended.

I hope so too and hope that J.K. Rowling can explain exactly what happened. Like others, I want to believe they died defending each other.

I cried the most with Lupin's death than with any of the other deaths because from the 4 Marauders, I liked him the most. And he was leaving behind a son.

Same here. As Bellatrix didn't seem to be the one who caused Fred's death - as we didn't see her near the sense - and Molly's insistence in HBP that Lupin get together with Tonks, maybe it was Bellatrix who killed them, which only angered Molly even more as she went to defeat the person who nearly killed her only daughter. If not, I still really want Rowling to tell us who killed Lupin and Tonks.

Re: Remus Lupin's Death

I had this hope that Lupin wouldn't die because he was going to be the last reminding Marauder and that he would be able to live the happy and full life he never had and that his friends had cut short.

I had prepared myself for the deaths in this book, but nothing prepared me for seeing my beloved Remus AND Tonks lying lifeless on the ground, realizing they left a young son behind....

I was truly devastated by Remus's death. He was a great man and one of my favorite characters in the series. I'm happy knowing he is now with his best friends and his wife.... the people who loved him most in his life....
