Re: The Next Dark Lord
The next Dark Lord should try to take over the Muggle world, not the Magical one.
Imagine a Dark Lord in charge of a Muggle multi-national corporation, with billions of pounds at his disposal and magical abilities to use to his advantage. He could easily use that influence to buy politicians and so forth.

Any wizard who tried to oppose him should be killed by a Darth Maul-type assassin apprentice, or several.

@ John_Dawlish:
Orla Quirke is a girl sorted into Ravenclaw at the beginning of GoF. I think her sorting is the only time she's ever mentioned in the series, so it's understandable that you wouldn't know who she is ![]() If you or anyone want to check, it's on page 180 in the American paperback version. |

Re: The Next Dark Lord
I think voldemort should have had a kid with bellatrix a year or 2 before they died. He could go looking for the resurrection stone to bring them back to give him advice and guidance so he can be the next dark lord. Albus could be sorted into slytherin and this guy could take him under his wing as a 7th year in Al's 1st. Then eventually he can turn on Albus or Albus can figure him out.
great potential there. |

Re: The Next Dark Lord
though i do like the albus severus idea, and think the name thing was a seriously impressive good call! i never would have noticed that! i have to say i think it would be difficult for albus to become involved with any dark wizard or become one.
first off because his father became like one of the best aurors...pretty hard to dabble in the dark arts when your dad is the man that spent his life battling voldemort and his job revolves around recognizing dark magic and hunting dark wizards down. secondly the staff at hogwarts is all from harry's era...they will know what to look for. i doubt hogwarts staff would let another student ,displaying behavior or an attitude like tom riddle's, go through school like before. some of the teachers had suspicions of tom riddle...and obviously, dumbledore included, regretted not acting upon their suspicion. it would be hard for that mistake to be made again...dont ya think?

Re: The Next Dark Lord
The new dark lord could go through a different wizarding school instead of Hogwarts where the teachers don't know the signs of a rising dark wizard very well.
Also who says that there even has to be a new dark lord there could easily be new-many new HP books without establishing another major dark lord. For example I just saw the voyage of the dawn treader and there was no villain, just an evil green mist. |

Re: The Next Dark Lord
of course there'll be another dark lord. It's gonna be someone much smarter than voldemort (somehow). I mean, he was very evil and all, but too fuzzy about making the horcruxes out of meaningful objects. The smart thing would've been, as told in the book, to use ordinary things.
And I don't think that the next dark lord would walk around killing people whenever he/she had a chance, but work a lot slower than voldy, breaking down the people's spirits so no opposition would be made later on. ie, it would be an ice cold lord, not getting as upset as voldemort and so on...

Re: The Next Dark Lord
I don't think every Dark Wizard or Witch with megalomaniac ideas is going to call themselves a Dark Lord/Lady. There's no mention of Grindelwald being called a Dark Lord, or describing himself as such.
I do think someone else may cause a lot of trouble, otherwise the Auror Dept would have little to do. However, a future villain wouldn't necessarily title themselves the Dark Lord/Lady, IMO. I think someone using the blood prejudice angle to gain power would be very quickly acted against, as the post-Voldemort Ministry would be very wary of something like that. Someone else might be looking only for money, with a dangerous organised crime group. Or someone might try to rise to power within the Ministry through dispatching their rivals in whatever ways "necessary".

Re: The Next Dark Lord
I am surprised the wizarding community went under so much stress and tough times from an evil man who makes that many mistakes. The hardest part would be destroying and finding all the horcruxes but I would think that the Ministry of Magic would keep him under control.

I really like the idea of this ![]() Someone rising to power purely by their wit, instead of just being powerful and having ideas that are popular with a decent portion of the population would be very interesting (but in a bad way, of course, because they ARE the next sort of Dark Lord/Lady).

Re: The Next Dark Lord
What if the next Dark Lord was a Squib? Think about it: a Squib grows up resentful that he can't do magic. He becomes a politician in the Muggle world, revealing that magic does exist and is the reason for all the trouble the Muggle world has been experiencing during Voldemort's reign. He also attributes Global Warming and other natural disasters to magic, angering the non-wizarding world into hunting down all wizards and witches. Of course the wizarding world would fight back but it wouldn't be an easy fight.

Re: The Next Dark Lord
I have four pet ideas about Harry Potter fanfiction.
One of them is so weak, dependent and stupid it will likely die a stillborn (Bellatrix Lestrange somehow being redeemed in an AU fic). The second has gotten so strong that it has filed for emancipation and is now, in my head, an entirely separate work of fiction with genericized characters. The third idea is pretty much just an excuse to combine my Harry/Luna ship with my love for Disney theme parks. I will likely never write it, but it stays there, quiet and unassuming, waiting for me to change my mind and never dying. The fourth one, the stable one, is James Sirius Potter as the ruthless future Dark Lord. |
