How did you guys figure it out anyway? you knew RAB were initials, so you guessed "B" stands for Black ?
This was way before I had joined COS (which was comparitively recently having only been about six months ago); I think I found out about it doing a web search on something or other; during that search I discovered the posting called Severus Snape, the Unlikely Hero of Harry Potter book 7 which outlined the theory that R.A.B. was in some way Snape but I thought that was pretty preposterous. By that time, though, the Regulus theory which was mentioned in that article had sufficiently spoiled me since I had read somewhere else that "a locket had been discovered during the cleaning of Grimmauld Place" put two and two together and it's pretty obvious.

It's an interesting posting about Snape, though, I'd recommend reading it to anyone.

(the underlined title above is a link and the post is actually translated into Russian, Polish, French and Spanish for non-native English speakers which is pretty cool)

SlyEd, don't feel bad at all. I too had no idea in the first read thru who RAB could possibly be until it was revealed =) (and then I was so happy for him to have redeamed himself/wised up to LV before it was too late/just in time)

I have red the article and i must say if i didn't knew what was coming i would seriously consider this theory. Author thinks pretty logically.

Re: R.A.B. Revealed

Right before the seventh book came out, I'd gotten really interested in Harry Potter and I 'discovered' that the Internet had loads of stuff about Harry Potter and theories about the last book. If I'd known than how accurate some of them could be (at the time, I really thought it was just random, wistful speculation, as interesting as it was though), I wouldn't have read all those editorials! They really took away the shock factor for certain events, like Snape being in love with Lily (though at the time I read that, I thought it was a bogus theory!). One of the things it 'spoiled' was RAB's identity. So I wasn't the least bit surprised on who RAB was although I was contemplating on how they might discover his identity. And the Kreacher's tale chapter in which Kreacher talks about Regulus's sacrifice was a bit of a surprise (that Regulus had drunk the potion instead of forcing Kreacher to do it).
