The Resurrection Stone
Does anyone else think that Harry’s (and Dumbledore’s) decision to just leave the resurrection stone where he dropped it was a mistake? I’m not saying he should keep it, and I definitely thinking that he should not have all three Hallows on him at once, but I really think that leaving the pieces of the stone lying on the floor for the forbidden forest where one day someone could just stumble across it was a mistake.
Don’t you think that after Harry disposed of the Elder Wand, he should have gone back into the forest and found a safer place to hide the stone? Heck, I think even dropping it into the Chamber of Secrets might have been a better idea. Or did I miss something along the way? What do you think? |

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I thought the same thing as I read the book, but the truth is, the resurrectio stone is a threat only for those who know what it is, and, since no one except Harry and Dumbledore knew it was Marvolo's ring, it makes no difference where they leave it nor if someone else finds it.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
i could be wrong but i was under the impression that it was just the stone and not the whole ring. if thats the case the stone was rather small and located in the dark forest. about the only way anyone will ever find it is to know the approx. location and use a summonig spell.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I personally think that no external harm could be had by recovering the stone. I mean the only protection that would be needed, would be protection of the finder from himself. As one of the Peverell brothers eventually killed himself because of it, I would think that the same could possibly happen to another person who found it.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
Even if someone did find it, they would almost certainly have no real idea what it was, or how it worked, and even if they did, there would be no way for them to come into posession of the Cloak. The Wand maybe, but not the Cloak. And these things cannot be retrieved using a Summoning Charm, as we see in DH when one of the Death Eaters tries to summon the Cloak. That would just be way too easy.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
Well if someone like Ron can hiss in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and open the Chamber, then I am not sure that the Chamber is that secure of a place.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
Could Harry not have destroyed it with the Elder Wand then snapped the wand? They are prety dangerous. Just get rid of them.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I think that Harry and Dumbledore (and Ron and Hermione) were the only ones to know about the Deathly Hallows and what they do. The ring was dropped in the middle of a dark and magical forest, so I highly doubt that someone else would find it, let alone know what it was and how to use it. Furthermore, I also doubt they would find out that the Elder Wand was buried with Dumbledore. Even if they did, it would not belong to them unless they beat Harry in a duel. Simply taking the wand from Dumbledore's grave wouldn't work, as we saw with Voldemort. Still, it leaves a little room for the unknown to happen...

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I think that it was a good place to leave it.... it was the spiders home wasnt it? And surely after the battle they would return there? Also, even Voldemore didn't realise what the ring was!

Re: The Resurrection Stone
^ Xenophilius Lovegood knows about the Deathly Hallows.
He is a bit eccentric and information like that can be passed on, to Luna for example. One day, one of the Lovegoods might be looking for Crumple-Horned Snorkacks in the Forbidden Forest and come across the stone with the "Peverell Coat of Arms" on it and wham. |

Re: The Resurrection Stone
Harry is the only one who knows approximately where the stone is, so the only way someone else could find it would be by coincidence, and really, finding that particular small stone in a forest, what are the chances for that? Besides, a small object on the ground in a forest won't be visible for long. It will probably be covered by leafs when the fall comes, if not sooner.
And, not many people would even know what it was if they found it. |

Re: The Resurrection Stone
It was dropped in the spider's nest. How could you ask for much better protection than that?

Re: The Resurrection Stone
As people have already said, dropping it in the nest of giant, killer spiders serves as a pretty good protection
I got the impression that the Forbidden Forest was not somewhere a lot of kids ever went into from Hogwarts, so there's little chance of a student sumbling on it by misktake. There's also little chance that they would even know what it was if they found it. I think the fact that he left it there was symbolic of Harry finally being able to put the dead (his family and loved ones) to rest because Voldemort was dead. |

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I quite think that the Forest was a very good place to hide it.
Even if someone passed by it. Why would they pick a cracked stone found on the ground of the Forbidden Forest?

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I agree, I think it's no matter where they left the stone, for the mere fact that most people wouldn't know what it was when they found it, if they found it.
Also, I was under the impression that when Dumbledore destroyed the horcrux he also destroyed the capabilities of the stone. Am I completely wrong on that one? It seemed to make sense to me. |

Re: The Resurrection Stone
If the forest is such a good hiding place then Voldy would have hidden one of his Horcruxes there.

Re: The Resurrection Stone
I liked the incompleteness of it being in the forbidden forest to be honest. Unlike the elder wand which now seems to be on peoples radars the stone is probably the safest place it can be ~ on a forest floor which is probably unplottable and even Harry's not sure where it is.
