Can you imagine the lines for the Encyclopedia? It will be the first piece of nonfiction-fiction to sell out a million plus copies in the opening weekend!!!

As I look into my little crystal ball, I foresee it being released right around the time of the final movie!!!

JKR should definitely make a biographical book on all the characters. i've been thinking about that prospect since book 5. she basically needs to anyway. i'm sure some really crazy people out there might even rally for it if she says she might not, hahaha.

but anyways. it'd be nice of her to include a ginormous family tree of all the purebloods to see how they're all connected. [you know, once you think about it, it seems everyone in the wizarding world is related, except for muggleborns, although some may be by marriage]
i also think it'd be quite befitting to include like, a mini biography on all the characters she's ever included in all seven books, so we can better understand them all and see what's happened to them after the fall of voldy.
i can't think of much that i'd like except bios on the new generation she presented as well.

god i hope she makes this book. i've been hoping for it for ages.

I checked on HPANA and they're talking about the interview segment on US TV's The Today Show and Dateline on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday evening in which Rowling will be interviewed and a preview includes a note on Rowling planning to write an encyclopedia which will detail all the major characters and everything she has notated, such as Dean Thomas' background that never made the books, what happened to the survivors, and other backstory that just never could find its way into the books!!!!!

What do you guys think will be included?? What are you hoping for?

hopefully she write about the old wizarding families like the weasleys,blacks and the history of hogwarts and hogsmeade and other magical creatures like the goblins, etc

I Like the Idea of another book .
I wonder if JKR could work with the people at the HP Lexicon on the Encyclopedia .They have had lots of experience in cataloging everything that she has written or said so far .

I think she should also publish an entirely separate book, Hogwarts, A History in addition to the Encyclopedia. That would be awesome!

This is great really. It just shows that Harry Potter isn't truly over. We still have something to look forward to. I personally am very excited about an encyclopedia. I want to know more about all the characters and their lives. A brilliant idea by J. K.

Yes I would pay good money for that!

From what she said, the Encylopedia would be perfect - just filling in a few gaps and backstory. I'd love for there to be lots of extensive family trees, like the Black family tree(ie A Weasley one). But I also hope that she will continue to put some things on her website as well, so we don't have to wait for a book, which I assume would be a very long time away.

Well considering the fact that Rowling has admitted in the upcoming The Today Show interviews that she is planning an encyclopedia, I think she made the decision when writing DH that she simply could not fit all of what she wanted into the book and that A LOT of it must go elsewhere. I think she has so many notes and notebooks and this and thats to tell us that she HAS to do a book which spills every thought she's ever had about the characters and their world! I can't wait!!!

I was hoping for a backstory on all the characters, that of course includes the lives of the trio and the Weasleys, plus everyone known in the school, and the Order.

Oh, I really do hope she goes through with the idea of a Harry Potter encyclopedia. That would be excellent; I'd love some more background info. on the characters and stuff.

I was very happy to hear her even mention the fact that she may be doing an Encyclopedia. She must be itching to put all of the other information she has poured (for years) out somewhere in the series, this would be a perfect ending book to place a few stories and a lot of information into to finally complete the series as a whole. I would just a happily buy this book as any of the others with an actual plot, and I can't think of anyone who I know that read the books who wouldn't!

i`m so excited about its release...alot of matters were left un-attended even in the last book..like i wanted to know more about the "department of mysteries: or more about the potters and the profession of lily and james or like where are the dursleys and what did they do in all those years?....it must contain all the answers!

I think the Encyclopedia will be great But I hope she includes stuff about the Trio's jobs, and what happened in the 19 years, like who teaches now, any new subjects, who's the head of houses / headmaster/mistress.
