The children's ages in the epilogue

I couldn't find this anywhere and I was curious. How old do you think the children were in the Epilogue. I was hoping to write some kind of fan-fic and I wanted to know their ages. This is all speculation until JK Rowling would answer.

We know Teddy was nineteen or so.

One of Harry and Ginny's kids (Albus I think) was just entering Hogwarts, and I think one of Ron and Hermione's was. I also think Scorpius was just joining as well, cause Harry acted like he just was introduced to him.

I think James might have been in Hogwarts for a year or two.

And Lily was two years too young.

Any ideas?

If Albus and Rose (Ron and Hermione's kid) were starting at Hogwarts that would put them at 11 (based on how old Harry was in the first book). They didn't say it in the Epilogue, but I got the idea that James was probably two years older. Lily and Hugo were both two years younger, so around 9.

I'd say Teddy would be around 18 at that time, knowing he was born after Christmas. Victoire, I'd say is 17 or so, because Teddy was with her, probably seeing her off into her last year at Hogwarts. I also got the impression that James would be in his third year, so 13 or so. Albus and Rose are going into their first year, I think, so they'd be 11. Hugo and Lily are two years younger, so yeah, 9. We might be wrong though, because one of their birthdays could be 1st September, so we could be wrong.

There have been a few interviews with Jo recently and she could've mentioned their birthdays or ages. I'd go searching around if I were you

im guessing that Teddy and Victorie are in there last year at hogwarts and that Albus Severus is 11 because it was his first year it seemed. and im guessing that Lily is 10 because i think it said she would be going to Hogwarts the next year. And im guessing james is prolly in his second or third year because he acts like hes already been there

I think James is probably in his second year because of when Ginny said that they had written to him three times a week the last year. By his third year, I think James wouldn't be quite so homesick to want to be written to so often.

I thought it said in the book that she didn't go for two another two years... so I think Hugo is also 9. And I thought that James was in second year, but he could be in third...

Teddy - 3 or 4 months old + 19 years = 19.
Victoire- 17 (turning 18 that school year) Just a guess but I figure that age because it would make sence around the time of a victory.
James-12 (turning 13 that school year). I got the idea he was heading off to his second year because Ginny said they got millions of letters from him "last year" as if it was his first year away from home.
Albus, Rose, Scorpius - 11 (turning 12 that school year)
Lily-9 as she would go to Hogwarts in two years.
Hugo - probably 9 as he was talking to Lily.

I think the kids were probably elementary-school age (8-12). Of course, Teddy was much older.

Teddy was born Spring of 1998, probably around April. Because when Harry was at the Malfoys Draco was off on Easter break. Then Lupin came to Shell Cottage and told them of Teddy’s birth, I think the gang had been there a few weeks before that happened. So Fall of 2017, he’d be 19. He’d have left Hogwarts in 2015.

Glad to be helpful! And yay for Dobby_Rocks because I was trying to figure out when Teddy was born and knew there was something to do with Easter. Now I'm calm again. Easter is a movable feast so it can be between late march to late April. How long were they in Shell Cottage before Lupin came, does anyone know?

Teddy was born in the last book, after christmas (I take your word for it because I don't remember the details), and the epilouge takes place 19 years after the last battle (at which point he was at least 5-6 months old). In the epilouge he was no younger than 18 ½ and was there to see his girlfriend off. Victoire is most likely 16-17.

I think James is 12-13, Albus and Rose are 11, Hugo and Lily are 9. Did it say it was two years left for Hugo though? He could be 10, or maybe 8?

Ditto that. So that puts James at 12, about to turn 13, Albus at 11, about to turn 12, and Lily at 9, about to turn 10.

So Rose and Scorpius are then obviously 11 going on 12 and Hugo 9 going on 10.

So if it's 19 years after the final battle, Teddy is obviously about to turn 19, as he was only a baby when the battle took place. Victoire must then be a 7th year, which puts her at 17 going on 18.

ha, as soon as i saw your name atop this thread Vance i sensed a fanfic. I think everyone is right so far, except for james, I thought that he was more like a 4th or 5th year. I dont know why, the whole letter thing has something to do with Harry, who at that age didnt have parents to write to.
also Harry would be 37, i think he would have his first child at 22. I dont know why, I just do

Teddy is 19. he was already born before the end of DH. 19 years later means he is 19 and a few months

Victoire 17 or 18. She might just have been at King's Cross to see a younger sibling off, JKR said in the online chat that she is Bill and Fleur's oldest child. Or she could have still been at Hogwarts

James 12, or maybe 13. I think he was in his 2nd year, because of all the times his parents wrote to him the year before

Rose and Albus Severus 11 or 12 depending on their birthdays

Hugo and Lily 9 or 10
