Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
That was really the most beautiful editorial I've read since DH came out. You pulled together everything I thought about the book and the end of the series. Well done. I can't wait to see more of your analysis.
"and even the loss of the Firebolt – which bothered my heart far more than it should have, given everything else that happened –" Me, too. I remember reading that part and saying, "Wait, what about his broom?" and having to go back and read it again. |

Lady Lupin, as always, you've done a wonderful job. I was so nervous as I proceeded through the book as well, but finished completely satisfied. thanks for summing up many of the thoughts I've had floating around in my head for a month now!

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
Lady Lupin, that was a wonderful, wonderful response. Your perceptive insight into the new events and character developments in Deathly Hallows was, IMO, both amazingly accurate and heart-warming; definitely the best editorial I have read in a long, long time. Jo has indeed put down her wand (a comparison which I absolutely loved) - and may Harry's magic live forever.

Lady Lupin, as always, your editorial was a beautiful reflection on a magnificent piece of writing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the end of Harry's journey. I hope you will continue to reflect on the events of this most magical world even as the nostalgia begins to set in.

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
I've been a loyal fan of yours, Lady Lupin, ever since you started writing for Mugglenet. Spinner's End became my favorite column ever since it was created, of course. What JKR made me feel with Deathly Hallows about Harry Potter, you made me feel with Finite Incantatem about Spinner's End. Thanks for the ride, Lady Lupin.

But I don't want to say goodbye to Harry. Not yet, anyway.*continues living in denial* It was an excellent excellent editorial - It ties everything together nicely, and really makes you appreciate the series as a whole.

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
Congratulations, Lady Lupin, on your wonderful analysis of the books. I haven't always agreed with you, in the past (I always thought Hagrid would live, for example). But I can't help but agree with your conclusions to the story. It is a relief to finally be able to look over the course of the books and see what a brilliant job Jo did of bringing her story together. Your summary ties it all together beautifully.

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
Really awesome editorial, nicely summing up the series. I completely agree about Dumbledore being even more fantastic after DH, as opposed to people crying about the picture-perfect Dumbledore they admired has gotten a stain on his name. What I particularly loved was, like you said, how he chose to be the man he wanted to be, and he could perfectly handle being in a position of Authority (like being Headmaster was), but not power (which he would have had a lot more of being MoM).

Lady Lupin - i've been waiting for your editoral since DH came out!! thank you!!
thanks especially for your reflections on Lupin - he is my favorite as well and I had not fully accepted his death until... well, now. Your thoughts on his finally accepting love in his own life are beautiful and touching.

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
When Lupin was killed, Lady Lupin, you were the first person I thought of. And I don't even know you!
In your editorial you said something about Snape being the opposite of a hero. I have to disagree with you on that. Yes, he was focused on his feelings (so is Harry most of the time), but he undertook a dangerous task out of love for a dead woman who could never reward him, never thank him, never respond to him. He did that for 16 years and he did it well, knowing that the only recompense he was likely to get was the one he did get: death at Voldemort's command. That doesn't sound unheroic to me.

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
Lady Lupin, I always love reading your Editorials and with great expectation I started to read your newest entry on DH - the last and final book in the series. Even if I repeat what a lot of our friends here have already said about your work. It is really amazing and awesome!I think you did a fantastic job - and I would go so far and say, yours is so far the best I have seen Online on any Harry Potter website or in a newspaper, talking about the book. I especially loved how you did NOT forget to thank Jo for her extraordinary achievement in fulfilling almost all our hopes - and yet staying true to her ideas till the end! Yes, I am also sad about Lupin, Tonks,Fred, Mad-Eye ,Dobby, Hedwig, Colin and Charity's death - but as you put it so well - that is how it goes when there is war....I admit - I cried a lot during reading - but when I came to these now famous last words of Snape:
Quote:
In my opinion that and the next chapter was one of the best written chapters in the book. Thank you again for your beautifully written work and please stay with us - I think Jo's last work deserves to be commented on. |

Re: Spinner's End #26 - Finite Incantatem
Thanks, Lady Lupin, for another excellent editorial. I now completely agree with your assessment of Dumbledore. After my first read through, I was devastated and thought Dumbledore had betrayed Harry. King's Cross alleviated most of my concerns, yet not until my second read did I fully appreciate Dumbledore's sacrifice, genius, and love for Harry.
I also agree with your take on Snape. Although I have never been a Snape fan, I was saddened by his story and life. When Snape tells Dumbledore never to reveal his feelings to Harry, I wondered why then did he himself reveal those feelings to Harry. I believe he was asking for Harry's forgiveness and understanding. One reason I will never really care for Snape though is because I feel that if Voldemort had gone after Neville's family instead of Harry's would Snape have done anything about it? I too was quite disturbed by the loss of Harry's firebolt. And though Harry did lose most of his magical aides, he did still retain his cloak, the most important of them all, at least in this book. I wondered why JKR shows Hermione doing most of the magic in this book. But now I realize that although Harry is powerful and a good wizard, it was not his abilities at all which helped him to defeat the most powerful wizard in the world. As you said, "It was his heart." |
