Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I'm hoping that it will be around as long as Lord of the Rings was. I'm pretty sure it will be because it's got an absolutely huge fan base, everybody loves it and I think people are going to pass it down to their children. I certainly am ... I'm that passionate about Harry Potter that I'm going to call my first girl Phoenix ... I think it's truly beautiful and I want to do whatever I can to stay 'faithful' to the Potter series.
I won't let it die out in my mind. That spark will always be there with me and I'm going to make sure that my children read it ... I personally want to read it to them as a bedtime story, what age do you think I should start them on it? I don't want to start them too young, incase they don't appreciate the beauty of it. I don't think that the films will be re-made ... not until like 20 years later or something, but to be fair the original films will always be the best ... We'll all be quite old by then so we'll still have Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in our minds as Harry, Ron and Hermione, so it will seem incredibly weird to have someone else portraying them. I don't think anyone else could have played them better, and I don't think anyone else could do Severus Snape better than Alan Rickman ... He's a true genious and has done me very proud. In my heart, Harry Potter will stay with me until I die. I hate it when people say that they could never bring themselves to read it because they're not into that sort of stuff ... They give off the impression that they're kiddies books and all the spells are silly and the book has no meaning, if only they knew. I can't stress enough to them that this is serious stuff, and 80% of the time the decisions that they make are life or death, and they're always in threat of being murdered or having their family murdered by the most feared Dark Wizard in the world. Although, I think even if I explained that to them they wouldn't understand. They can't understand, I don't think anyone can explain the beauty of it to anyone, they have to read it for themselves to find out. Once you've got past the first book I think you can really appreciate that this is not a silly story, this has meaning and you learn to love it, and live by it. I think I'm ever so sad when I can honestly say that my life revolves around Harry Potter. I live, breath and eat Harry Potter ... I think when you can admit that ... You're cool as cake !

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I agree with a previous poster that it's going to become like Lord of the Rings except for the fact that there wasnt this much hype when LotR was coming out so for HP...there will be more of us obsessive fans to keep it alive
Because there are a whole heck of a lot of us. I feel good about the fandom keeping up and it being a part of our cultures for a long time to come...it's just so extremely despressing that there isn't any more theorizing to be done and no more books to wait for . And I think the movies will be remade eventually (in our lifetime) and it will be really weird to see new people but....I'd like to see that done. With one director. And a better Dumbledore....yes definitly lol. |

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
Like LOTR fandom indeed, but LOTR fandom has no more than 3 years of age, because I´m talking about the new fandom poped-up with PJ movies...
(The books has more than 50 years) And it´s almost disappeared, I was one of the most obssesive member of LOTR fandom. Or just like any other mania, I have been through many passions, obssesions, LOTR, HP, many others. They are all the same. But I never forget my obssesion, new obssesions comes and so on. That´s the way it is. But nothing last forever. Only time will tell if HP fandom will stay and dont dissapear. Even the most popular thing in the world dissapear with time. But memory remains. Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I don't think that it will ever dissapear. It's so important to millions of people, and will carry it with them in their hearts until their dying day. I know that, because I'm one of them ... I'll never forget how I religiously followed Harry Potter ... And I'm sure many will feel the same. I'll want to pass it on to anyone I can and keep it living on.
I can safely say: Harry Potter WILL go down in history.

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
There are too many people that have invested in these characters and the friendships they've made through being a fan, plus, new fans will be coming along and growing up. I don't think that we have to worry about the fandom of Harry Potter any time soon.
I mean some of you have been fans for years, I'm a case in point, I just picked up the first book like six weeks ago and I've already finished all of them and watched all the movies and I'm trying to get caught up on all the back log of extra knowledge most of you have. So there will be more people like me coming along.

I'm not sure as many people will still like it, but definitely a lot anyways, It's just too good to fade away

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I don't think it will be as huge in 20 years but it won't fade too quickly, I mean they are building a freak'n theme park for crying out loud!! It won't fade off too quickly! (Especially with potter freaks like me around! I will be sharing Potter with everyone and any one before I let it die out!)

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I think that it would have been Star Wars like in following if it wasnt for the last book. That book almost made me embarrassed to tell people I read the series. Maybe she will write a do over and make it good this time.

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
definately... the books will have another edition, and the movies will probably be remade... It'll be very interesting for us to compare and for our kids to see the Harry Potter books and movies as they come out (again)
But why are you against the last book?

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
In the future I expect a TV miniseries will be made with different actors and following the books more. Somethings in the movies that were cut out desturbbed me.
Of course it would have to run for few weeks |

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
That would be a huge mini-series, but I'd watch it. It would be weird to see other actors in the roles, though, maybe they'll be better, worse, or provide different interpretations. After knowing the ending to Deathly Hallows, they'll probably bring something totally different to each role anyway.

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I think the comparison to the Lord of the Rings is quite realistic. Of course, HP fandom will quieten down from now on but it will never be forgotten. There will be lifelong fans. Remakes of the movies could revive fandom but I don't think that will be happening for severeal years.

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I hope they kill it.
Right now the series is losings it's lore by being dragged on for so long. Over the last 4 months JKR and WB have been trying to juice ever single penny out of the fandom in the process slowly destroying it's legacy. Kill it. Finish the movies. Make no mention of it. In 10-20 years release the 7 books in a collecters 7 pack edition, I'll buy them, a few of them. But kill it before it loses all it's dignity. Just kill the damn thing already. |

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I think that Harry Potter will be around for a long time like the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. The HP series will become that sort of staple in children's literature, a sort of rite of passage. However, I think that comparison to Lord of the Rings is incorrect. Lord of the Rings isn't literature that kids read when they are eleven/around that age. The Lord of the Rings consists of religious allusions, epic metaphors, etc., mostly things that would go over the heads of most kids that age.
Although HP will last a long time, I do not believe it will be considered to be the same sort of legacy that has been left behind by The Lord of the Rings. |

Re: What will the HP fandom be like in 20 years?
I think that the fandom will definitely die down, and it's already begun to. For the past few years it's been absolutely crazy, and although I know it can't last forever, I wish it could. It won't ever be like that again, but I think Harry Potter will always be there and will become one of the classic childrens books to read. All of the fans now will hopefully pass the books down to their children and get the next generation loving the series. I think the Harry Potter books will always be prominent, just not as prominent as they have been.
