There was also reference to not knowing where Sirius Black was? The question mark made me think. What if Sirius is not dead, I mean J.K.Rowling during that interview admitted that she did not know where Sirius had gone. So he could be still alive.

As Sabine said before me, we don't know about Neville or Ginny hearing voices. Harry heard voices, and Luna said she did too.

There has been a lot of discussion in this thread about the veil being a kind of 'electric chair' for wizards, as much as being somthing related to wizard's funerary ceremonies, you just have to read the previous pages. BTW, try to avoid double posting, mods usually don't like it. If you have to add something to a previous post, just use the edit button.

Its on the official Bloomsbury site, where Jerry Paxman interviews J.K.Rowling. I did have the web page but seem to have lost that interview site. I will go fish for it though.

Found it, it was not the Jerry Paxman interview thats on this site too, it was the Royal Albert Hall interview with Steve Fry. Here is the link. Its write at the end of the interview.

I don't think that this veil was some sort of execution-thing for the wizards.

I believe it is there to study death - or the afterlive or something in that line.

By the way--- Somewhere in this jungle of forums I sometimes fell over some thread that dicussed that veil too. Someone actually found some anvient drawing, showing the veil just like JKR described it.

There was a theorie that that veil was there long long time ago and the MoM was built around that thing to hide it.

Does someone remember that thread and could point in that direction?

I read the following in a magazine a while ago and scribbled it down:

'Acoording to the Celtic culture in Ireland and their Druid religion, October 31st was the last night of the year. It was the night when all spirits of the previous year would rise up and search for the passageway to the netherworld. This passageway or "VEIL" between both worlds (life and death) would be at its thinnest in this day, which allows Lord Samhain to roam the earth, searching for these souls to capture and hold them as prisoners in the world of darkness.'

As you can see, it was an article on Halloween, but it does define what the 'veil' is. I hope this helps.

I doubt anybody has a clue about anything at the Department of Mysteries
