Mac or PC

It's kind of hard for me to choose, because I think that Macs are better computers than PCs, but I have less experience with them. I think if I were buying a computer now, I would choose a Mac, but it would take some getting used to.

Personally I prefer PCs myself; but thats probably only because I grew up on them. I've used Macs, and I'll have to used them a lot more in College because I'm majoring in Graphic design which includes using a Mac and Photoshop, InDesign, etc.

Still,you'd figure that at least one person would try to break the prestige that mac has about not getting one virus in OS X after it's been out for 6 years,it might not affect many people,but that virus would create quite a buzz since it'd be the first one.

Macs are susceptible to viruses now, since they moved to the Intel processors there's been a remarkable increase in mac viruses.

Yup, except the good ol' Mighty Mouse's wheel gets dirty VERY easily, and you'll have to scrub it with alcohol quite often so you can keep scrolling up and down (well, mostly down, in my case).

Personally, I just bought a USB mouse. Seriously, people always complain about the Mac mouse... just buy another one.

I'd never actually used a Mac until this year, all of the computers in the Animation classroom at school are Macs. I think the Mac interface is better aesthetically, but I still like the PC better, since I've been using them forever. I still remember using like, Windows '92 or something when I was really little.

I have a PC. I've not used Macs unless I absolutely have to - I find them not to be very user friendly. But maybe that's because I hardly ever use them. I'll stick with my PC in the end.

And by the way, with the new iMac and Leopard system coming out on October 26th, it's officially going to be the coolest computer in the entire world (including the magic one).

Mr. Weasley would probably pee in his pants out of excitment seeing this thing, and Ron would most likely be impressed. I bet Hermione's parents have a mac.

As dentists, they must have one ! I swear, every doctor I know has a Mac... One of my father's friends is a psychiatrist and he has that HUGE iMac, it must be like 24 inches wide... Scary.

One of the local graphics firms that I've been to has all macs, 30 inch monitors, the original G5s. I wonder if they've upgraded to the Intel based chips or stuck with the G5s.

It's strange really, they look massive when you're sat in front of them at first but after a short while you get used to it. The worst part is going back home to a smaller monitor, at the time I had a 15 inch CRT monitor Heartbreaking! Now though I have a 19 inch widescreen TFT, much better.

I think if Apple lowered their extorntionate pricing on the Macs they'd make a lot more money, if that makes sense. Macs have always been a lot more expensive than PCs, until the Mac Mini we didn't really have an 'affordable' Mac, Apple need to continue down this route.

also,the stuff that make me want to chose pc instead of a mac is because the mouse sucks,there is no off button for the computer screen and the colour is always white!!!!

OSX is a very nice operating system.
If Steve Jobs wanted to really shake things up, he'd release OSX onto the PC market. But he won't because it would probably damage mac hardware sales.
I can but dream i guess.

OSX can quite happily run on an intel based system, however to do so is quite illegal and will make Steve Jobs quite irate.
As for the virus thing. If Apple dominated the OS market like Microsoft does, then OSX would have more malware and viruses built for it.

Which is why I'm very happy it's not as popular as Windows.

Here's my deal:
For the average computer literate person, there's really not a whole lot of differences between the two operating systems. Since Macs can run Windows, it really comes down to if you want to pay more money for a better computer, because with Macs you are getting what you pay for. Of course, for gaming high-end non Apple PCs are always going to be better, but Macs are the industry standard for professional video and music production. Personally, I have owned an iMac for two years and never had a single mysterious problem with it, which I can't say for my four year old PC laptop.

There have been proof of concept viruses for OSX. You don't hear much about them because Apple tend to keep quiet on flaws with OSX. They work on fixes and release them. Microsoft have been more honest about flaws in it's software than Apple has been. Though Apple have to keep an image up of having a very secure OS.

Here is an example of flaw in OSX (that was fixed in Tiger but reintroduced in the new version of OSX):

Basically don't fall for the hype that tumbles out of Steve Jobs mouth. While OSX is more secure than windows is, it is not 100% safe from being cracked wide open by hackers looking for flaws they can exploit.
