Why do you listen to music?

Im 13, and I listen to rap music. I go to school. The effect music has on me varies depending on who I'm listening to. Some of the music is politically motivated, and makes me think. Some music I listen to is about people's experiences in life, and it makes me think about my own life. Also, some music can make me feel certain ways. An example of this is I listen to certain songs before playing sports, because they give me adrenaline.

I am 14 years old, and I like to listen to bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Most teenagers around here listen to rap music, yet most of the people can't relate to the lyrics. I generally listen to music when I am studying, because it gets my mind off of other things and to my schoolwork.

I'm not 16 yet, so I have to either drive with an adult or ride along with them in the car. My sister recently drove me to the local jewelry store to get a Christmas present for my mom. On the way back she had her iPod plugged into her CD player and was listening to rap music. I asked her why she listened to this stuff and she said, "I listen to it because I like the rhythm and it keeps my mind on the road".

I know it's pretty broad, but I listen to everything. Rap, rock, pop, r&b, instrumental, indie, ambient jazz, techno, country new wave, punk, international, alternative etc and not including the genres that are mixed

My favorites seem to fall under pop, r&b, indie, ambient, techno, instrumental, and international alot -- and I'm a geek for like Imogen Heap, Kate Havnevik, t.A.T.u., Namie Amuro, Mflo, and Hikaru Utada. I hope that narrows it down some ^^;

-what effects your music has on you

Depends. My favorites are made up of good lyrics, nice vocals, and amazing music, and that combo tends to make me feel good, understood, or inspired. But then there are songs I have that make me want to move, dance, or drive. Some music makes me sad or angry, but gives a realistic or interesting POV about real situations, and others just lets me get lost in the song's world for a few minutes. Then there are the songs that make me feel restless or puts me in such a deep thought that I can't listen to them at certain times (like when I'm trying to fall asleep). Lots of of effects, eh?

Music is like a set of paint or color pencils to me. Mix and match the combinations and the results are just endless. I love music so much =D

Some of my favorites are Rascal Flatts, Nickleback, Akon, Mika, Seeed, Lafee, Evanescence, Silly Fools, Marquess, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, etc. And I love the HP soundtracks

Music to me is relaxing. It is like a retreat away from the problems i'm encountering. I do notice that I usually listen to music that reflects my mood. Music helps to soothe the soul.

-any extra details: I also really like listening to music because it is something that you can do anywhere. In your house, in the car, even walikng down the street. It's very portable, so you can feel the beat wherever you go.

Mostly rock, but I can listen to other genres on occasion. (It only takes up, like, 10 songs max on iTunes.) I'm really into alternative and indie music for the most part.

It really depends on my mood. When I am sad and listen to sad music, I feel worse. When I'm energetic and listen to fast-paced songs, I get even more energetic. And when I'm sad and listen to songs I love, I get in a better mood. Basically, music changes my mood, for better or worse.

I don't know . . . there's just something about music. There's something about how it can change the mood of something like a movie in a few moments. There's something about how it brings euphoria to those who hear it. Music has loyalty, something that is constant, something that one can never doubt. If someone is feeling a certain way, that person knows he or she can turn to music to help. Hearing bands/artists sing lyrics of how people feel is beautiful

i) Feeling down, angry just depressed and stuff the lyrics are relatable helps you get out of the dumps and focus on something, also ****** other people off so that i feel better about myself

ii)When depression isnt ailing me, bands such as GN'R, AC/DC, Greenday, Foo Fighters Nirvana etc just helps me get along when im studying or reading, normaly acts as a distraction though but hey the songs become the backing track of life

iii) If im in a party mood nothing beats some classics 80's tunes, wham are always a great favourite, just to dance along to in the street normally to rise stares from the smicks/chavs and wannabe rappers

iv) When the blood gets pumping, ready for a cross community riot or what not or at easter or other public holidays nothing like Irish Rebel Music to get the blood flowing, i actually believe it comes with its own shot of adrenaline

For me music is something I enjoy always. I can escape for a while and have fun. Imagine I'm on a stage singing the songs I love for people. Sometimes I move to it. Not necessarily dancing so much as just moving with the flow of it. Music makes me feel wonderful.

Im 18. and im working now but ill be in college soon. I listen to alot of different genres, mostly rock, indie rock, alt, lots of classic rock, but i also listen to what ever catches my attention.
Well i listen mostly to music beacause, life would be boring with out a soundtrack! It all depends on the day, theres the dance days where all you wanna do is dance in your room with your girlsfriends in from of the mirror,and sing along to over played pop songs, Road trip music! Angry music for those days where you feel like hurting someone, Theres those songs that you listen too when your feeling sad or just plain bored and you need to cheer up! When i was still in school, there was the music you listened to instead of listening to your teacher, you know the kind that takes you someplace else Or in the case of me and my friends there was Walking home music, when we would put all the volume up on our ipods put on some good dancy songs and dance all the way home, getting stared at by cars driving by. All depends on my mood i guess.

17, High School Student, year 11-part time studying music and instruments in spare time (it sounds really bad as it should be in reverse)...but anyway, I listen to Pop Pop Rock, Pop Rock Eletronic, Some RnB, and Obvious Dance Pop, I listen to music to be a release, to get ideas, to sing along/dance along and have fun too, and just to do what I need to do, also to get ideas for songs and just, everything +, Music is ME, and just as a general release if I'm fustrated/angry/energetic!

Music affects me deeply. I love every moment I spend listening to favourite songs, and it can either make me really happy or convince me that I'm not alone whenever I have a problem. It's one of the best things anyone ever invented. I owe that person who made music a serious debt.

The question here is "Why do you listen to music?" I listen to music because there's no background music on CoS, because I love walking into town listening to something, because it keeps me happy, because my MP3 is small enough to fit in my pocket, because it helps me sleep, because it keeps me up... The reasons are endless...

-what effects your music has on you I have tendency to ummm..... listen to music in class ( even though I'm not supposed to let's hope no one ever sees my ear phones.) and I think that might effect my grades. I actually listen to music almost 24/7 and I started playing the guitar because of music.
