I know this is a bit late, but I found the part where Harry mistakes Remus for Sirius. It's on page 669 in the American version of OotP (in the chapter called "Career Advice"):

"Feeling rather sick and as though he was wearing an exceptionally hot muffler around his head, Harry opened his eyes to find that he was looking up out of the kitchen fireplace at the long, wooken table, where a man sat poring over a piece of parchment.
"Sirius?"
The man jumped and looked around. It was not Sirius, but Lupin."

I'm not really sure of its significance. Much of what J.K. Rowling writes cannot be disregarded because she obviously loves to shed new light on previous ideas that seemed trivial at the time. Maybe it is a kind of symbolism/foreshadowing that Remus will replace Sirius as Harry's father figure. Then again, it could just be a simple case of mistaken identity on Harry's part.

That article was very interesting, but I still find it hard to believe that Remus is the cold, manipulative character that the author of that article makes him out to be. Though I guess his personality is open for a lot of debate since he hardly ever shows his true feelings in the books.

Yes... yes it has become.... cliche.

Ahem. Really, he's isn't going to die, but I guess all the codsmacking talk has become something regular to the Lupin fan genre (anyone who's visted this thread at least). That image is brilliant, by the way... do you mind if I steal it?

I wonder what he said to the werewolf in Mr. Weasley's room at St. Mungo's.
I have a half-baked theory that somehow Lupin is going to recruit dozens of werewoves into the Order, and he will somehow lead all of the werewolves into rebellion against Umbridge and her half-breed decrees so that he can finally get a job.. but of course, Remus himself won't need one, he'll be rich from the thousands of Galleons Sirius left him. ...Oh yeah, and then he'll find a cure for werewolf-ism.. and become Minister of Magic and... Wait, what was I talking about? (trying to bring up this thread so it doesn't get lost and forgotten is a real poo to your brain)...

Anyway, I think that he'll somehow try and work against all those decrees that make it impossible for werewolves to get a job. Any thoughts?

Yay Finally I post something that sparks debate.
Lol congrats Lupin's Ladee^-^ thats something I've not managed to achieve in any of the forums I've visited - Im just too easily swayed by other people's good arguments^-^;

I would def like to know why Lupin thought it was OK that Sirius, Lilly, and James thought he was the spy.
Well werewolves are associated with the dark side aren't they? he'd be the obvious one to assume went bad...but I'm thinking that they all suspected each other so it wasn't anything personal...at least I hope not...although syaing that- how could anyone suspect lovely Lupin of doing anything bad *grins*
Anywho I agree with Puffskein and Lestrange- Lupin would forgive them for thinking bad of him..because he loves them all too much not to.

Lupin is one of my favorite characters, if not my most favorite character. I don't really "fancy" him, I mean he's a lot like my dad so that would be a bit weird. But he does fit in with many of my ideas of what the ideal man should be. And like someone else on this thread mentioned, his character is extremely sympathetic. You can't help but love the guy!
ah you've hit the spot Mel^-^ my sentiments exactly....except, well he is nothing at all like my dad....

and I love the cod-smack smilie mind if I use it on my sig? ^-^..oh and how do you get it?...there is a one similar on another forum which is just :codsmack: but that isnt working here...

good point scarlet tears! I was thinking the same thing..it'd be interetsing if it turns out to be true ne?

Brillient Lestrange- :clappy: I love it!
If you just take out the bit about Sirius' galleons and the werewolf cure..oh and the minister of magic thing, I think you could be onto something....
maybe dumbledore has put Lupin in charge of a 'order' mission after all!

I don't mind because I stole it myself from someone who stole it from someone else. I got it from this page, which has a bunch of fantastic smilies on it. The fish-smacking one seemed so pertinent to this thread I just had to use it. I put it on here using the [img] code, aeterna_kai.

Seriously, I think Lupin could have a series to himself.

Lupin doesn't seem the type to lead political movements, you know? And seeing as these stories are about Harry Potter's 7 years at Hogwarts, even if he did found a S.P.W.W., we wouldn't know about it.

i love love love lupin! That said, I did not catch his reaction to sirius (sniff sniff) the first time around, but the second time I read it, I bawled my eyes out. I forgot poor lupin has just lost his last really good (school) friend. My big fear now is now that we all no longer have sirius(sniff sniff) I know at least I will become even more attached to lupin and I would imagine so will harry. This in itself is not a bad thing but I fear lupin will not survive this series (wormtail has a SILVER hand). Poor harry, poor lupin, poor us!

Lol, aeterna_kai, I love "The Big Squishy Group Hugs For Lupin Society" in your signature! Hmmm...TBSGHFLS is a strange acronym, though. Oh well! *squishes into the group hug* :grouphug:

Don't worry, moon781. Remus will live. The Cod Squad will make sure of it!

Is that me? I have a nickname?! YAY! And no problemo, Aeterna. It's a little odd that Ms. Rowling would reveal that big a part of the plot, but she must have sensed the animosity from the Lupin lovers...

I LOVE it! I'm putting that in my siggy straight away, if that's all right. Three members and counting, if I'm not mistaken!

Wow mel, that page has some pretty awesome smilies! Hehe, mind if I join the Cod Squad? The only body of water that I live near (sort of) is Lake Michigan, but I'm sure one could find some nice, big, smelly fish there!

I am also really curious as to Remus' reaction to the prank Sirius pulled in their seventh year. I mean, if he had bitten Snape, he probably would have been in a lot of trouble with the Ministry. Come to think of it, I wonder if the Ministry even knew about what Dumbledore was doing. I'm sure he would be in a lot of trouble himself, if that were the case.

Just out of curiosity, where does it say that Remus was thought to initially be a traitor...?

In PoA, Sirius tells Lupin that he didn't tell him Peter was secret keeper because he though Lupin was the spy.

But I never thought of how Lupin reacted to Sirius' prank. He was probably very angry, but I think he expected something like this from Sirius so I don't think he was surprised.

Poor guy, I feel so sorry for him, it's not his fault he's a werewolf. I wonder how he gets food and clothes if he doesn't have a job? Did he perhaps borrow money from Sirius?

where does the guy live? Surely he'd have trouble affording somewhere wouldn't he?...it couldn't have been very nice if he then moved into 12 grimmauld place with sirius at the least ne?
maybe his parents left him some money or something....I wonder if they're even dead?

I wonder if he'd have a brother that would be introduce to us in the next book.

Yeah,i want to know where he lives too. It's kind of mysterious. There's not much in the books about his private life. But wherever he lives, it must be quite isolated, near a forest or maybe covered by trees ...in case it's time of the month again ..

Lupin rules!! i know a lot of people will get mad at him for not standing up to James and Sirius. i think he should have, but consider, he finally has gotten friends and wants to keep them. A sort of similar situation has happened to me before. A girl on my soccer team was calling one of my friends "trailer park trash" and it made me really mad. But i was afraid to stand up to the girl. Now i really really wish i did stand up to her, and if it happens again i will! So i can see where Lupin was coming from. And btw, do u mind if i join the group hug and become a member of the "The Big Squishy Group Hugs For Lupin Society" ?????????? =)

*hugs Lupin*

I've just started re-reading the firts book...and I'd totally forgotten that hagrid mentions meeting Sirius when he went for Harry and to think a few hours later..Sirus would be in azkaban and wormtail hiding in the swears...and Moony? Boy i wish we knew what happened to Lupin! I wonder if he was questioned or anything!!

*drags thread from the bowels of the Order of Phoenix Section*

I hope he doesn't have a brother.

If his name turned out to be Romulus, like in the mythology where --Remus is killed by his brother Romulus--, I'd probably go clinically insane and throw my book into a garbage disposal. Anyway, I don't think that he has any family that's still alive, that's part of why he so lonely and poor. I mean, I doubt that his parents would have disowned him, since they were extremely happy that he got into Hogwarts, they didn't want to lock him away from society or anything.

Heh, I bet he had one of those over-protective mothers (like Molly) that spoils the kid rotten. Remember how he once gave the excuse that his mother was 'sick' when he went to transform? I bet no one saw it in the least bit strange that he would go and visit his mommy. How cute.
