Hey, I forgot this one: what about Never Ending Story, by Michael Ende? It would be a great excuse to read it again.

Re: C.O.S. Book Club!

Cool! A book club!

My suggestionS:

1. Twilight (Stephenie Meyer) - it has action/sci-fi/romance all mixed in together!
2. Alice In Wonderland
3. The Wizard of Oz
4. Candide (Voltaire) - wicked humor

Some of the books that are a little less PG but very good:::

1. The Cabinet of Curiosities (Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child) - seriously the best page turner I've read.
2. The Witching Hour (Anne Rice) - 970 pages of magic

Re: C.O.S. Book Club!

The two book/book series with the most posts are in Twilight and Eragon. And I for one love rereading books.

This one would be really fun! I am reading Through the Looking Glass now, but would love rereading Alice in Wonderland and discussing it because there is so much that is left to the imagination and Through the Looking Glass has me really confused.

Isn't it fantasy though? because of the vampires?

And I forgot you were a twilight fan It's an amazing read

I've got to read it. what's it about? I'm afraid to go into any of the book threads that i haven't read.

Maybe we should do really not well known books instead. since rereading isn't as good for some people. if we do a really popular or book like twilight, or a classic like pride and prejudice, most people would be rereading.

I don't know, some people might not mind rereading a book if it's really good, I must confess that I haven't read many of the classics so I'm looking forward to trying them out but people can always decide whether they want to read a book or not, that's why I want to have a list made up before we start

It's a good idea to have a preliminary list, but maybe you should include a few alternates. If there is a book that too many people don't want to reread, one of the alternates can be selected. Just a suggestion. I don't want to make it too complicated for you.

I don't mind rereading. It's good to get a fresh perspective from those who haven't read a particular book, yet.

Please let me know if one of the selections is about vampires, because that's a month I'll sit out. You might include a short paragraph about the selection of the month so we can decide.

One more suggestion. Can we start a new thread whenever we start a new book? That way, the title of the book will be in the title of the thread and other people interested in just that book will be able to join us. Maybe something like Book of the Month Discussion: To Kill a Mockingbird

Thread titles can be changed by staff and by the person who started the thread.

So will we have a poll of some sort to decide which books we'll read?
There are a lot of suggestions so it'd be a huge poll though--vote for your top 12?

That's what I was thinking, but there's some problems with that. Most people don't want to buy the books we analyze, I assume, and some less popular books won't be available in the library. People that live in other countries may find difficulties trying to get hold of the books as well.

I think we should mix different types of books so we get a greater variety of books. So we can do some classics and some less popular ones as well.

Could there be two books ongoing at once? It could get a bit complicated but that way there could be a bit of a choice...

Re: C.O.S. Book Club!

I think the best way is to have one book at a time. If we have two books at once, people might want to read and discuss both books and that might be a little too much for them. (especially with "real life" getting in the way)

ooo starting a poll is a really good idea. It would be easier to tell which books are choosen.

I think it is best to read one book at a time too, but if others would like to do two, I suppose we could vote on that too .

Re: C.O.S. Book Club!

Nah, one book is probably simpler . Those who skip a month will just have to remember to come back for the next one .

Yes, that's true, but I'm not suggesting that the thread title be changed. I'm suggesting that a new thread be started for each book. I think that might keep the thread and the discussion more manageable.

This trilogy is amazing! I owe Kimmetje a lot because she was the one recommended them to me. Also, I really like Wicked. I'll come up with more in the future, but those are the ones that popped to the top of my head.

It depends on the book, some things I love to reread (usually classics) but most stuff is really dull for me on reread and I end up skipping big portions. I've read all the Potter books at least twice (most 3), but that's pretty rare. That's why I lurve the library

I wouldn't be entirely against having 2 books so people could choose, but it would be more complicated. Maybe for the first couple we can do just one and see how it goes, and if it's really successful and people feel they want a choice we could change. I don't think we have to be tied down.

Re: C.O.S. Book Club!

Ok guys, we have a long list

I have it all on a word doc and my plan had been that myself & the other Hogmeadians who have offered to help out with this would organise the list, but some people want a poll. I'm not sure if we'll be allowed to do that but we'll see!

@ chparadise - is a poll possible? I know there are issues with bandwith etc. so we can stick to the original plan if it's not possible?

As far as creating new threads everytime we change books, I think we'll continue with one thread for a few books until we see how it goes. If it gets too confusing we can move to individual threads
