The Half-Blood Prince *Entry 17*

This is, on CoS, my, what counts as, my fifth fanfiction and I can only hope you enjoy it and that it will be as good as I hope. It shoud be pretty easy to guess what it is about

For your information you are a journal not a diary,

It is my first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and I've been sorted into Slytherin. You may be wondering who I am, Journal? I am Severus Snape and I am proud to say that when I had walked in the first day I already knew
half of the things that the seventh year students knew! My best friend Lily, she's a muggle-born, had been sorted before me and she's in Gryffindor, such a tasteless house, but we still keep in touch, maybe someday I'll show you to her. She's already made a new friend, though, and she's a Gryffindor, too. Alice Trebbleclef or something like that. The only people I've met are some more timid looking first year Slytherins that share my dormitory.

Macnair seems to be all right, but he seems to be fascinated with the curses that I do know. Should I worry about that? I really don't think so; I can't roam around Hogwarts without a friend by my side. I already have four enemies! I need all the help I can get if I want to survive this year and hope that Lily knows not to hang around those boys, my enemies. They call themselves the marauders. Can you believe that? As if they were some sort of organization that the whole school loved. That James one though, I need to watch out for. I think it's about time to eat and then I have to do homework, my Potions teacher really has it in for me! - But he loves Lily.

Hello again Journal,

You remember me, right? I wrote to you a few days ago for the first time, you were a birthday present from Lily, by the way, and it's been a while since I've last fed you. I'm sorry but homework has just been AWEFUL and the professors seem to just pile it on us now that we're learning all of this magic and stuff. Lily suggests that they're trying to kill us but Macnair only laughs and teases me for hanging around a
mudblood. That's a nasty word and don't let you catch me saying it again, all right.

The food here is delicious, though. Much better than anything I would have had at home, and I've even learned where the kitchens are! I haven't made any more new friends yet, I think it's because I'm not that charming of a person. People like to make fun of me because of my greasy hair and crooked nose. In fact, that Potter boy I told you about the other day. James. He loves to pick on me about my looks, him and that Black boy.

Sirius Black is in Gryffindor! Can you believe that?!? He is the first ever Black to
not be in the Slytherin house! I bet you his mother is mad. I heard he was a disgrace before he had even shown up at Hogwarts, though, so maybe it isn't much news to Mrs. Black.

Professor Slughorn, the Potions Master, still favors Lily but I think he's really starting to pay attention to the work that I am doing now. I've been working with her and she really has gotten the hang of it. I think he likes her mostly because she is muggle born and already knows so much about the arts of potion making, but he says that she is just very talented and can tell her wriggly-sprout from her wiggling-sprouts.

I really must be going. I have two essays for Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts that are due first thing tomorrow morning. I think Lily was right. They
are trying to kill us!

Sev

Do I need a name for you Journal,

I really should get a name for you; all of the famous diaries do, anyway. That's what Lily tells me, though, she's a girl. All girls name
everything! I think I'll name you Emerald. Do you like that? I'm not telling you what it means, though, I can't trust you with all of my secrets yet, Emerald.

I didn't finish my Transfiguration essay and I've earned myself, get ready for this, my first detention! I hope my mother doesn't find out or else I'll be in trouble. It wasn't that I hadn't tried, but I was too wrapped up in my DADA essay (Defense Against Dark Arts) and never found time for my other essay.

Lily offered to help me with it but she wouldn't let me copy her answers. She doesn't know this, but I saw that one boy, he's one of the marauders, the one that is always so nervous and a little odd, look off of her paper the other day. Do you think I should tell her, Emerald? He has his own friends to cheat off of and Lily shouldn't be prone to that.

I did meat someone today! She's older than me, a third year, and has an older sister that is a fifth year, but I think she's pretty nice. We sat at lunch together today and she offered me a special quill that helps you cheat when you don't know the answer to a test without getting caught! How cool is that!? Her name is Narcissi, but she likes to be called Cissy. She's very pretty, but there is only one girl for me. That is, if she likes me, too.

Emerald,

Lily met Cissy today and I don't think she likes her very much. She told me that both her and her sister hang out with the wrong crowds and she doesn't want me to make friends with the wrong sort. I promised that I wouldn't but I'm still going to be friends with Cissy, she's much nicer than Bellatrix. I haven't met Andromeda but I hope to soon. My homework time is starting to improve. Slughorn gave me top marks for my potion yesterday and Lily was proud of me.

Now for the big news, Emerald. Something TERRIBLE happened today and it was in the news! They're saying You-Know-Who is behind it, too, but it doesn't sound like something
he would do. I think a couple of his followers did it. A young woman was found dead in Germany after she had left for two weeks on an expedition. She was part of the Misuse of Magical Creatures department at the Ministry of Magic. She had left to find a new species of snake that had been terrorizing the locals and they said she found it.

Two Muggles saw her hanging around a bald man and a cloaked figure; which they swore had scarlet eyes! Could He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named really doing these things himself? His followers normally do his work for him unless they are someone special enough for him to kill. What was so important about this lady? They said they found her body all mingled up and with wide teeth marks in her lower leg. I suspect that the snake attacked, too. I don't feel too bad for the lady though. She shouldn't have been meddling around Germany trying to nose about things that had nothing to do with her.

Its time for Herbology, my only break of the day is up!

Sev

Re: The Half-Blood Prince

Emerald,

That detention I had last night was AWFUL! I never want to go again. Lily wasn't very happy with me when I had complained that I didn't deserve cleaning the trophy room, even though I really didn't, but I told her she was right and continued eating my super (she chanced a shot at sitting with me at the Slytherin table!) She can be quiet bossy at times but Cissy didn't like a Gryffindor sitting at our table and told her to go away. Lily didn't do so, of course, but I don't think she ever will again.

Lucius, the boy prefect for Slytherin house talked to me today. He wants to have a meeting with me tomorrow evening and he says it is important. I wonder what it could be but I hope I will make another friend and not get in trouble for having Lily over. Mulciber, another boy in my dormitory, said that he was a really cool guy and that I'll like him. Would that consider him my friend, too? Lily is so worried that I won't make any friends this year because she's heard Slytherin is such an awful house. She's wrong, but I won't tell her that.

OK, I've been butting into things like that one lady, but I was really curious as to what He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (that's getting quiet long, I'll just say You Know Who) had done. I stole a newspaper lying around in the Herbology green room and read that the lady, who died, Verona Debport, was proven to be a Death Eater and she hadn't really gone to Germany to find a species of snake, but trying to escape You Know Who! No wonder he killed her, the coward. But how then, did she find the snake? Was it really just a coincidence that it found her and was a new species? I'm still looking up information as to why she was trying to escape, but I don't think that it will be in the Daily Prophet.

The snake is still missing, too. I bet the locals that had gone there aren't complaining, but it must have been huge! I saw the gash marks caused by its teeth, the wizards would have used wands and not common Muggle weapons, but how can something so large just disappear? I bet those men took it. The bald man and You Know Who. You Know Who would LOVE to have something as dangerous as that as a pet.

I promise to tell you all of the information I find out, Emerald. Just as long as POTTER and his friends can butt their nose out of my business! I had been sitting in the library on Friday when they came and started making all the noise they could. Madame Pince kicked me out and they silently laughed behind a bookshelf as she escorted me out by the ear.

I'm tired and I'm really going to get my Transfiguration homework done now. I don't want another repeat of yesterday evening!

Forever yours,
Sev

Emerald,

I just finished my meeting with Lucius and he
was angry that I had a Gryffindor muggle born girl sitting with me, though he used that nasty, common name. He said that I had true potential and says he'll keep his eye on me. But most importantly, I got some information about VERONA! Well, more about the bald man that had attacked her. Lucius said that it was his Uncle Winston and, I was right, You Know Who! Though, he didn't know they had been in the Daily Prophet already. Perhaps he had not expected them to get caught so soon?

He should be getting a letter from his uncle soon and that he would let me read the letter, too. I'm starting to learn that it isn't uncommon for students to have family members as Death Eaters. Lily won't approve of me hanging around them, but she really can't do much about it. It's not as if I'm changing into one of them, I'm just surrounded by them.

Well, hoping that I will receive plenty of information in that letter on an empty stomach isn't going to help my nerves for tomorrow's potions class. I think I might sneak into the kitchens and make one of the house elves get me a sandwich.

With a rumbling stomach,
Sev

Emerald,

I can't believe this! Lily and I have had our first Hogwarts fight and it is over the marauders! They thought that it would be funny to put me in a statue state a couple of days ago. She was mad at them at first but then I said that I didn't need her help and she got mad. I don't think I'll ever say that again, but she was embarrassing me in front of everyone. It was as if she didn't think I could take care of myself! She's still mad at me, but I'm letting her cool down, she normally is mad for a while.

Lucius hasn't received his uncle's letter yet and I haven't found any more clues out yet. Everything seems to be closed about it but I'm hoping that Winston will be able to tell us why they had attacked her. Cissy said that unless I have any
real interest in You Know Who (she said the Dark Lord, isn't that funny) then I shouldn't be bothering Lucius about it but I really want to know. So much has happened in just my first month here and You Know Who is all ready causing mayhem.

I hope Lily will cool down soon. Macnair and Mulciber are fun to hang around but they're trying to gather a bunch of boys and start a club and it sounds really cool but it sounds like something Lily will use her sense in and tell me if it sounds like I've made the right sort of friends. Until then, I guess I'll just have to keep saying no.

Sev

Emerald,

Lily isn't mad at me anymore! HURRAY! Slughorn paired us together in Potions today and she talked to me. I told her about the club my friends are trying to start and she frowned at me. It's kind of nice to know I have a mother figure here, but I wish she wouldn't. You know what she said, Emerald? She told me that I shouldn't join because it sounds like they're up to a bunch of no good.

Mulciber said that I needed to stop hanging around her and don't bother with what she tells me but I told him that I wouldn't join the club. There are many things that I have to do anyway if I want to become a prefect. I really like potions class and I'm getting really good at it, too, mostly because Lily seems to notice everything I do in that class. We're working on the drought of living death by the way. It's complicated.

My favorite class by far is DADA though. I've began to notice that out of all of my homework I get it done first and always get top marks for it, sometimes even points for MY house! Lily is very proud of me, and Cissy says she likes the few house points every now and then; it's rare that a first year helps with the points at all because they normally lose points.

Lucius got a LETTER today! Don't get too excited though, Emerald, it was from his mother. But it did have some news in it. Winston has been put in Azkaban and he is not telling anyone that the man with him was You-Know-Who, so he'll be in there for a long time. He also isn't saying anything about the snake and where it is. Lucius says that he doesn't think that there ever really was a snake, but some sort of powerful dark magic.

I'm really dieing for more information about this case. I guess I'm really interested in the snake or something because whenever I hear students talking about it I stop what I am doing. Lily doesn't like to talk about it much, she says it is rather sad that a man would give his life up to save You-Know-Who and that only an evil man would let someone do that for them.

What does Lily know about how You-Know-Works? She's only a Muggle-born and is still getting accustomed to the wizarding way. I can't blame her for the information she doesn't know.

My dorm mates want to turn the light off now, so I guess I'll talk to you later, Emerald.

Goodnight,
Sev

Emerald,

I FOUND OUT WHY THAT LADY HAD BEEN ESCAPING YOU-KNOW-WHO! As you can guess, Lucius received that letter from his Uncle Winston today. Verona had been one of You-Know-Who's most faithful followers and had been sent out on an assignment to get information about the snake. But get this, Emerald. The snake WASN'T in Germany. It had been a snake found in Bulgaria and she HAD found it but she had taken it and went on the run to Germany with the snake. Apparently, though, when she had left the snake had escaped her and attacked. The Death Eaters only came to get the snake once she hadn't done the job. What is so IMPORTANT about this snake? I don't understand, Emerald. There are still many things I need to know and I can only hope that I will get all of the answers.

Nothing has been going on here lately. Lily said that the marauders have been terrible to be around while studying in the Gryffindor common rooms. I want to laugh because now she sees what I have been talking about, but I didn't do it in front of her.

Macnair also asked me if I would join his club once again. I told him no but I don't think he'll give up too easily. I'm about to go down and eat super so I'm going to go.

Severus

Emerald,

Nothing new has happened at all here at Hogwarts OR out in the real world, and here I've been told that you never get bored at Hogwarts. Lucius and I have gotten in a fight, however. I had gone to find more clues from him once I learned he had gotten a new letter but he was angry and told me to just forget the whole thing. I wonder what happened to make him so mad? Cissy is mad at me for it too now, but only because her and Lucius have been dating these past few days. All of those mushy love stories that I've heard about are happening right before my eyes! They're all ready talking about getting married as soon as they leave Hogwarts.

Oh, I guess something interesting did happen in Astronomy last night. Remus Lupin was sent to the Hospital wing quickly and James wanted to follow to figure out what was wrong, but Professor Sinistra didn't want him to go and told him to stay. Only, everyone knows that Potter can't do as he is told. He left the classroom only to be caught by the actual headmaster! He was told to please forget about all events that have occurred with Remus tonight and go back to class (the only reason I know this is because I had followed on my way to the restroom.) When I got back I learned that Potter had gotten himself a detention.

Lily has invited me to go to quidditch tryouts with her tomorrow. Alice is cousins with the captain and she was invited to come and watch and invite a few friends. I just hope I can go; I'm running a bit behind on homework again. Slughorn has been showing his true colors in assigning the most difficult of a potion to me on our projects this week and I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to keep up on the time schedule for when I need to stir it (which is every 4 hours!)

I guess I really should continue on this Astronomy assignment, I still haven't caught up after the glories hour of knowing James had detention, and I wasn't included in it!

Re: The Half-Blood Prince

Emerald,

The tryouts were horrible, only because it was Gryffindor, though. Their team seems great, too, which makes it all the worse. I was badgered from the Slytherin Captain as soon as I had returned but I couldn't say much, I don't really care about the sport of quidditch. I did have a great time with Lily, though. She seemed excited watching people zoom around in the air and Alice wasn't watching what was going on in the air at all. She seemed too busy watching another boy waiting until he was called up to try. His name was Longbottom or something.

I was surprised that Potter's friends weren't there. He himself was at the detention for Professor Sinistra, but he never came to watch at all. Even Lily was surprised that he hadn't showed up, though she seemed more upset. I hope that her talk of hating him isn't just
talk.

I never found out why Lucius was so mad, but neither he nor Cissy is talking to me. I hope that doesn't continue, though. Mulciber keeps asking me if I want to join that club of his. He has come up with a new name for it the "Lord's Followers". He won't tell anyone what it means until they join, he says it should be easy to find out, and that I shouldn't go around asking people if they want to join, but I've already told Lily. I must remember to tell her not to tell anyone.

I never finished my homework, so I now have tons of it to do this weekend. I'm really not looking forward for it either.

Sev

Emerald,

BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU, EMERALD! All right, do you think you can hold it all without telling anyone? OK. I found out that the reason why Lucius is so mad at me is because Winston, his uncle, had been executed just a few days ago. The Minister of Magic was having a fit about it but he tried to hide the death from the magical world, and only tell the closest family members to Winston Paul Malfoy. However, someone spilled the coffee beans and let it out about his death today.

They say that they gave Winston some veritaserum before he died and he told them everything! Verona Debport was sent to Bulgaria under You Know Who's own orders to find a snake that he wanted, which is still unidentified but with other studies they have proven it is NOT a Baskalisk. Not even Winston knew what sort of snake it was, just something his master wanted. Well, she went out to get it but decided to take it for herself and run to Germany. When she had been missing for a couple of days, Winston had been chosen by You Know Who himself to go out and find her. Unfortunately, they had found her a few hours too late. The snake had already killed her and then slithered away into the forest. When they had been spotted Winston and You Know Who fled from the scene.

Winston was unlucky and had gotten himself caught, apparently, and taken to Azkaban. But before he died they say he was all ready a very crazy man and laughed just before his death, saying that You Know Who will find that snake and anyone who crosses it's path just may be in danger.

Sounds a bit weird, doesn't it Emerald? Well, Lucius is coming near and I don't want him chancing a glance and seeing you. I've got to go.

Sev

Re: The Half-Blood Prince

Emerald,

It seems that I don't write much to you Emerald. Lily was telling me just last night how she had spent hours writing in her journal because she had been so upset about failing her Transfiguration assignment. I guess it's just something girls do, write in their journals about all of their worries and secrets. I know my mother, and I sure wouldn't want to share my secrets with other girls either, they can be hateful.

Slytherin house is holding a contest now. Not that anyone is excited for it. Halloween is coming up and the headmaster wants everyone to be festive. Whichever student comes up with the best design to decorate the common room wins fifty house points for the house and a free assignment pass for any class the winner chooses. Not that anyone is going to do it either, but I guess I'll doodle around on some extra scrap paper. Everyone knows I could use a pass for Astronomy, useless subject in my opinion. Lily says her common room is all ready decorated. I wouldn't doubt it either, the Gryffindors are always out there.

I don't see what the use in first years entering the contest is going to do, we don't know enough spells to add all of the extra cool things. Cissy seems pretty festive, but I don't think she'll help me with how mad she is right now. MAYBE, I capitalize that because this is a really BIG if, I can get Bella to help me make my drawing come to life. She loves anything to do with trickery.

I've never had a journal before you, Emerald. I guess it's weird because I thought you would be close to being done by now, but you still have hundreds of pages! This is when I hate magic, people can put enlargement spells on common items and then you realize you never finish off with it! Don't get me wrong, I love writing to you. You're the only one I can really talk to besides Lily. But with her being in another house and around the marauders all the time, I don't get to see her as much as I did during the summer. I won't worry too much though; we'll always be friends.

Well, I better get off to planning. All of my research for that snake and Verona is pretty much over with, though I'd still love to learn about that snake and hear when it is found. Now that it is over, though, perhaps I should go and make peace with Cissy and Lucius. They seem pretty
locked up at the moment, so I'll leave them be until tomorrow.

Until next time,
Severus

Emerald,

I had no idea that I had a Defense Against Dark Arts exam today! It's not that I did bad, but I wasn't prepared for it at all. As you can tell, Emerald, I wasn't exactly prepared for the test today. But it wasn't my fault! It's been hectic all around the school lately. The third years are all buzzing around the school, talking about how excited they are to go to Hogsmead for their first time. I swear, I won't have to go when I'm a third year to see it all, I already know what it is like!

On a lighter note, Cissy and Lucius are talking to me again. I told him the truth about me finding out about his uncle and everything and that I was sorry what had happened. Winston had practically raised him as a child and his mother hadn't let him out of school to attend his memorial. What there was of one anyway. I sort of feel sorry for him. I would even more if he wasn't so cold-shouldered and showed that he really did care that his uncle was dead.

Have I told you how much Bella hates me? Yeah, not too soon after I met her she started to hate me, but only because I could only talk about Lily. She's my only friend, and the only happy thing I can talk about. What else can I talk about without boring anyone? Honestly, if this school wasn't so caught up in things such as houses everyone would be much friendlier. No one here really likes me talking about Lily and I fear that if I continue they won't want to be my friend anymore. Mulciber and Macnair have already stopped talking to me, but that's because they're both a part of the "Lord's Followers" and I haven't joined.

I don't want to have to pretend to hate Lily just because I can't make friends with the people who surround me 24/7. That wouldn't be fair to her, but I do have to admit, it can get a bit lonely.

I haven't spotted the marauders for a while. That's great news! Though, then again it could always mean something bad. Perhaps they are planning on their next
visit with me? Well, I'm going to make my way to the kitchens. If I'm lucky, I won't run into them. Or anyone or anything else!

Wish me luck,
Sev

Emerald,

Wow! This past week has gone by so slowly! I'm sorry I haven't written to you in so long, Emerald, but with Halloween being so close... More people have thought about this contest than I thought would have! I guess everyone wants a free assignment, though it is mostly the fifth and seventh years entering.

You know, I've really been noticing that a lot of people aren't talking to me, though I've got Lucius and Cissy back, Mulcibur and Macnair aren't talking to me and now I really don't have anyone to hang around with in the common room! There is this one girl, Ellie, in the common rooms. She's a first year like me, but she can get quiet annoying at times. I've been studying with her this past week and have learned a little bit about her.

Her family has nothing to do with You Know Who, but that has mostly to do with the fact that she is the only witch in six generations! I'm the only one that she's told that she's a muggle-born, though I half wish she hadn't told me; if people find out they'll tease me about hanging around all of the muggle-borns. I myself am only a half-blood wizard, my father is the muggle, but I won't let people know about it. As far as they know I'm a pure-blood.

It sort of hurts to write in you right now, Emerald. Did you know that you should never make the healer here mad? Yeah, I found out the hard way. How was I supposed to know that Madame Pomfery doesn't like to be told that she is very slow. All I had said was that I'm sure
I could have this healed by now. She cleaned it and then told me that I can wait until it healed on it's own.

What had happened was I had cut my thumb in Herbology a couple of days ago, by cutting a root, and it wouldn't stop bleeding. It doesn't look so bad now, but it still hurts to hold a quill. I was going to tell Professor Dumbledore, but I don't know where his office is, so I went to ask Professor Slughorn, but of course professors have to know why you're going to see the headmaster, and when I told him that it was to complain about the healer not healing my thumb, he told me to do as she said and leave it be. Now I know that I need to LIE to professors when I really need to see the headmaster!

Other than that, I got my exam back for DADA today, I didn't do too bad, but Lily was a little disappointed in me, I guess she was expecting since it was my favorite subject I'd get more than 20 out of 34. I know, it really is terrible, but those third years still haven't shut up yet!

I still haven't had any real problems with the marauders, thankfully. Maybe they've decided to leave me alone, but I'm ready for them if they ever do decided to show up. I'll just leave the library before Madame Pince comes looking for me.

I guess I do have more interesting news about the snake. They haven't found it yet, but they have specified that it is not a new species, but a common muggle snake. Almost like a boaconstricter, but with some sort of magic appeal to it. I really do think that perhaps it is a baby Baskalisk, they public just doesn't want to admit it. The only reason why I think that though is why would You Know Who want a muggle snake? With some magic ability it may be able to bite deeper, but no more really. It's not like it's ever going to pop up through someone's neck or anything!

Besides the snake and all of this misfortune with Winston and Verona, there was another interesting article in the
Daily Prophet, but it's nothing I'll really get in to. A young man was killed the other day. I mean very young. He had just graduated from Hogwarts, too. He was in his own home and they have suspicion that Death Eaters had attacked his home and killed him. No one else was at the scene, just the man. If You Know Who is going to kill people this young, who is to say he wouldn't try killing a child? The magical world can be pretty dangerous, and it's only getting worse!

I'll let you know why he was killed if the
Prophet ever let's it out, but other than that, nothing really exciting going on. Perhaps I should go to the library and study some on a neat plant that we're learning in Herbology. It's actually quiet common in Potions!

Severus

Emerald,

TODAY IS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE! The marauders must have finally caught up with the fact that they haven't picked on me in a while. Lily and I were down by the beach tree at the lake today and they decided to come and bother us. Lily and James don't get along at all really, but they aren't any worse off than us together.

It was all going fine, except for some of the rude comments they had made and then they started to recall some things said from the train. It was that darn Black boy who had to bring up the whole Snivellus thing! I couldn't help it, but I hexed him. Well, tried to anyway. Apparently they've been working on shielding charms. Who in their right mind, as a first year, tries to learn spells those older years have learned? It's absolutely ridiculous.

Anyway, it had gotten worse and eventually Lily was able to stop the whole thing. The marauders teased her fiercely for it, too. It wasn't until she was in tears did they back off. Lucius said that sort of stuff is only common first year things and will happen throughout my entire life. The real drama happens when you're older. For example, he and Cissy are now fighting because he hadn't met her in the common room when he was supposed to.

I suppose he is right, but he doesn't have to live his entire Hogwarts life with those boys. But if there wasn't anything else to make my day worse, it was Bella. She had to come up and speculate my drawing behind my back. I know it is due in two days, but I'm still not finished. She criticized everything about it! That's when I gave up and just decided to come up here.

The day has been awful, I'm truly tired, and I have finished every assignment I've ever had at Hogwarts so far this year today.

With a finally healed thumb,
Sev

Emerald,

I'm a little down right now so don't blame me if I don't have much to feed you today. I didn't win the contest and the common room looks absolutely aweful now. As you probably guessed Bella won and now everything is this dark purple color and black. She took extra care in making me walk into a 'cave' of bats this morning after I came downstairs, too. I should have known better when Rodolphus was the one judging. She sure has made everyone's life miserable by waving her free assignment ticket around.

Breakfast was no picnic basket either. That Lupin kid was telling his little friends that Lily was still in the common room and wasn't feeling very well. Potter started to make fun of her and blame it on all of the studying she does. Lily does study a lot but that is one of the great things about her! She can still make time for others once she is done because she has nothing to hold her down, unlike me, who likes to wait and do homework until later and be tied down before bed.

I was hoping to tell her about my loss, knowing she would be the only one who could comfort me, but my mind went somewhere else when my owl came down with the newest issue of the
Daily Prophet arrived. Can you guess what was in it, Emerald? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Well, of course it had to have had something in it, but I'm talking about the boy that died. The Ministry is closing the case. They say they caught the killer but they aren't letting any more information out. I mean, why even bother mentioning it if that was all they were going to say? I think I just may write to them and tell them that I'm rather interested in actually reading the news!

Well, until then, Happy Halloween! (Not that mine will be.)

Sev the Squished Pumpkin
