The heroes of Hogwarts. What happened to those who fought or fell in the final battle

Here's my view of the crystal ball. Whats yours?

At Harry's suggestion, the names of all those who were killed were engraved upon the wall in the main entrance of Hogwarts. Like Dobby's marker, Harry insisted upon doing it himself. The fallen were also given the signal honor of being buried on the school grounds not far from Dumbledore's grave.

The ministry of Magic also awarded all of those that participated in the last battle the Order of Merlin, First Class.

Hermione made a lasting contribution to their memory by suggesting scholarships be established in their names. The Fred Weasley Foundation has now supported a steady stream of mischief makers at Hogwarts, while the Lupin Memorial Fund in honor of Remus and Tonks has made it possible for many disadvantaged witches and wizards to attend.

Hmm...
You would think there would be a memorial something akin to the real-life Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. (Is that the right name? In any case, a big wall with lots of names of those who fought and died in the war.)
I'd hope that Snape would get a portrait in the Headmaster/mistress office. I would also hope that Harry made the truth about Snape publicly known.

Jo said that Harry would have made sure people knew about Snape and would have had his portrait put up in the Headmaster's office along with all the others.

And I doubt that too many more people died in the Battle of Hogwarts if she didn't mention them.

Cool. Good to know about the Snape thing.
As for the memorial, I'm thinking maybe not just for those who fought and/or died in the single last battle, but during the overall war against Voldemort. You've also got to remember, though, that Hogwarts did end up pretty littered with bodies. The bodies of the dead were lined up in rows in the Great Hall. Only the names of the dead that Harry had known were mentioned. That's not to say that there weren't plenty more who Harry had not been acquainted with.

al who fought in the battle should get a portrait in the castle and a plaque should be nailed to the main doors

I feel that they should have some form of a memorial at the school, and at the ministry of magic. i love the idea of scholarships, but I'm not sure how that would work. There are no colleges in the wizarding world, the closest thing i can really think about is training for jobs.

I like the idea about memorials. I'm not so sure about scholarships, but that is a good idea, too. And the Order of Merlin, First Class is a great idea as well. All of those people deserve to be recognized for their bravery. Especially . . . Fred. I kind of see the same thing in my mind, except that Fred might be buried at the Weasley's with a little memorial there. Either way works.

She didn't mention everyone by name, but she did say that there were about 50 bodies (which is a high percentage considering the number of people at Hogwarts who stayed to fight, even when you add the Centaurs, the Elves and the Hogsmeade people who joined in at almost the last minute, after Harry was thought dead.) That does not include those who may have died from their wounds afterwards - we already know that Wizard Healing can't do anything about wounds inflicted by Dark Magic.

I like the idea of a plaque a lot, and of fellowships - that is, if Hogwarts charges tuition (there's no mention of any tuition, is there? At least I don't remember any.) I think there should also be a gallery of portraits, maybe in a special Hall dedicated to the Hogwarts Battles Fallen.

As to burial on Hogwarts grounds, I'd think that the choice would be left to the individual families. Like someone pointed out earlier, the Weasleys would probably want Fred in their family plot. The Creeveys might want Colin's body back, also. They are Muggles (with the exception of Dennis), it may not mean much to them that Colin is buried near Dumbledore, but this is just speculation on my part, I don't really know what they would want.

I think they should have a "Fallen Heroes" Portrait wall. It would be really cool to see some type of Scholarship to pay for the Education, including Uniforms for Students who come from Families like the Weasley Children and Severus Snape. The Scholarship would pay to buy new books, uniforms, quills, cauldrons, Brooms, and other Supplies. This would put everyone on an equal playing field, etc.
Harry would make sure Severus Snape was exhonerated of all charges. He'd also make sure Snape got a Portrait in the Headmaster's Office. I also think they should honour him in Slytherin House in some manner.

i dont think Snape should be honored in the name is slytherin, but in the name of hogwarts. A group portrait for the fallen heroes would be good too.

Also, about the scholarship thing, students who have no money are given money anyways, but money should also be given to poor families.

Do you mean a really big wall outside, like the Vietnam Memorial? With the portraits being made weatherproof by magic? Because if it's inside, one wall wouldn't be large enough. Some portraits would have to be hung so high one couldn't see them.

I think I like Muggle_Magic's idea of a whole Portrait Hall (a big room, like in a museum) at Hogwarts better. You know, a bit like the Trophy room, except with portraits instead of trophies.

Naw, I like the idea of a big white statue with all the names of all the people who died. In the Hogwarts grounds, maybe near Dumbledore's tomb. But other than that, they should be burried where their family's want them to be.

Those who fought... A place at Hogwarts? I don't think Merlin's Order First Class is really ... symbolic enough. *thinks* Yeah, they should have priority job choices or something ^^

I would like a memorial in the grounds, a flat standing slab or something like that, extremely simply, with the names of all those who died engraved on it, with a fire or charmed to be everlasting flowers, like roses or jasmine at four corners around the slab.

I think that would be nice.

I think they would have definatly put a memoial up. I'm also hoping that they put out Order of Merlins for all those who fought, though maybe not all should be first class. It was probably evaluated person to person. Most probably got first class though.
I also thought that they would do some reunion thing with all the fighters where they got to go exotic wizard places and everything on the anniversary and everything to meet and morn and celebrate. weird combination now that you think about it.

That sounds like a very nice memorial, TGW. I like the idea of the everlasting flowers. And with that memorial, all of the people who fell in the battle could be honored at Hogwarts, but their families could bury them where they want to. I'm sure the Weasley's would've wanted Fred to have been buried nearby.

The one things I like about the wall it is so simple. Another thing I'd like, a pensive in the libary and a memory of that person availible for "study". It would make quite an impression that these were "real" people. Seeing a brother or a friend or daughter who never got past 17 or 18 or 25 has some poigentcy.

All the Best,

Lunatic
