Re: The U-Bend #45 - Re-Introducing the Player

You were true to your word...you are posting once a month! I just need to remember to check the recent updates more frequently to ensure that I don't miss your current editorial. I must admit I have been lax since the number of postings petered out. I'll enjoy reading yours as usual.

You asked a question and I must admit, with some chagrin, it's not one I've asked of myself (that I can remember anyway). Why do I read Harry Potter? I've never thought about it. I've just read, re-read and enjoyed every single word of every single book. Yes, it has been a source of escapism for me at times when I've needed it.

Perhaps the more important question for me has been: What have I learned from Harry Potter? Truthfully, a great deal. It gave me a vehicle to sit back and analyze; to parallel the characters and situations to real life; and to use the lessons learned to improve real life. No small thing to me. Over the past couple of summers I was fortunate enough to meet others with a similar obsession with all things Potter and the resultant discussions were lively and consuming.

My goodness Andrew, whether intentionally or not, your editorial has gone beyond the mainstream and forced me into a deeper introspection of an editorial than normal. We can always depend on you to offer us something unique, offbeat and definitely not mainstream to cogitate. Thank you. I needed to remind myself why I enjoy the books so much.

Oh yes, just in passing. I'm also from Canada and my favourite colour is black.
