Skulduggery Pleasant

Does anyone else read these books? I love them, and I'm so glad that Derek Landy is planning a whole series of them! I got SP2:Playing With Fire the day after it came out and I loved it! I hope it becomes a craze, like Harry Potter did. Even though these books are shorter, I might even prefer them to Harry Potter...don't kill me!!!

I prefer this book because the storyline is darker and more tense, and there's more mystery in these books than there was in Harry Potter. It's also the humor, Derek Landy would make a great comedian. He manages to make the tensest of situations laugh-out-loud funny, and does so at least twice in every chapter. JKR's characters just provide a bit of comic relief, but reading through SP2 I was laughing really hard. Also -

Spoiler: show
I thought that the part where Stephanie's reflection died incredibly powerful and well-written, especially the part where Skul tells Stephanie to call her parents and "say goodbye". I almost cried at that part. It just shows how good an author Landy is - he can so easily switch from humor to a really dramatic, poignant situation in the blink of an eye.
<--- Yes, that is an SP2 spoiler, so if you haven't read the book then don't read the spoiler!!!

Re: Skulduggery Pleasant

I have fallen hopelessly in love with Skulduggery pleasant. I was set the moment I happened to read the inside cover blurb in Borders.

A walking, talking, fireball-flinging sorcerous skeleton who is the good guy? Win! x3

The fact that the dialogue is superb, it's chock full of humor, and contains H. P. Lovecraft references is just gravy on top of that, but it's very delicious gravy.

I love the audiobook version of this. The reader gets the tone perfect and inspires even the most minor character with a rich and complex life.

Re: Skulduggery Pleasant

I've read the first three. I have the fourth but still haven't read it even though we also have the fifth in my school library which my sister has read but I just haven't had the time.
