Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Emma, that film tends to cheer me up . Also the secret garden,A little Princess, Pride and Prejudice, and the first part of little women, ( not the whole cause I at least hate the ending where Jo does not match up with Laurie) ,but the first part I do love.

Hmm ... forgot to put Eragon on the list. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it's something I could watch over and over, hehe.

Cast Away. it will make you feel glad you're not a FedEx guy stuck on an island in the Pacific, surrounded by ocean that's twice the size of Texas.

Personally I found it a boring downer and fail to see how that movie would cheer you up...but I guess if it's viewed like you say then yeah, things could always be worse For me that doesn't work though...watching someone worse off is typically going to just depress me more or make me feel ashamed for thinking I've got it so bad. Neither really does good for the spirit.Cast Away is quite possibly my least favorite Tom Hanks movie actually...and his performance is the only reason I'd watch it again ![]() I don't suppose you think Into The Wild is a "feel-good" movie too, do ya? ![]()

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Die Hard. Especially the one with Jeremy Irons (is that the third one or the second one?) because he is the most perfect man. But also because the action is great of course and Bruce Willis always saves the day so it's a happy ending. One can really count on Bruce Willis.
I noticed many people mention Love Actually and while I think it's a great movie it's not really going to cheer you up if you are single. At least it doesn't work like that for me. Other romantic comedies don't work either because then I get the "why can't that happen to me" depression. So yeah, I think action movies are good or other sort of comedies. Or movies one really loves even though they might not be particularly cheerful, like The Reader. Great movie!

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Personally I'd extend it to anything with aliens at all (besides gremlins, are they even aliens? I can't remember, but that movie scares me), but cheesy aliens, none of this Alien vs Predator stuff.
I watch TV shows rather than movies (Blackadder can cheer me up no matter what) but some of my favourites include Star Trek (2009), Kill Bill Vol 1 (I can't explain why) and The Lion King. Disney in general makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Or "Mac and Me" - It's a film I can never unwatch, as much as I'd like to. My brother and I took turns choosing videos from the video shop when we were younger. His choices were always centred around the feel good b-movies of the late 80's early 90's, none damaged me as much as "Mac and Me"......and maybe "Bingo the Dog".

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
I'm confused, this is a thread about movies to cheer you up...and yet it seems the two of you are talking about nearly the opposite...like movies that scare you or something involving aliens? Huh?
I mean Perlida went as far as saying "none damaged me as much..."I dunno know about you, but a film that "damages" me isn't really a good one for when I'm feeling down Perhaps you can clarify?

But that's the thing, alien movies DON'T scare me (except The Gremlins) and sci fi/alien movies/shows actually do cheer me up. I can't explain it. I think maybe because it's so 'out of this world' (pun definitely intended) it distracts me from whatever the reason is that I'm upset.

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Alien/monster movies I think provide escapism.
If reality is getting you down (as it does to everyone), there's no danger of reality coming into a movie about some sort of face-eating monster or alien that teaches a kid the meaning of friendship before returning home to his planet.

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Any of the Shrek movies. Also most indie comedies. I watch mostly family films (I have kids) and so usually watching a silly movie with my kids cheers me up because hearing a child laugh really hard at something completely off the wall is majorly contagious.
