Good Day Everyone,

I'm sorry to say that CoS Forums is going to shut down in the Summer, sometime around July. This isn't an early April Fools joke either.

The Forums have become quite expensive to run and manage. There's a lot (LOT) less traffic coming to the site these days as Harry Potter becomes less of a topical debate for people.

I held on for a while after the last film, wondering whether JK would announce anything surprising, but I find that even if she did it wouldn't serve to help the diminishing numbers on the site or my bank balance!

Myself, I've been absent a lot more in the past year as personal issues have taken over and I've had to work longer hours, to earn more money to keep the forums going as well as pay for things like rent, utilities and god knows what else.

Some of you will be sad and I'm sure others will be happy. I'm not doing this lightly and I could have closed the site last year but held off. I know this may upset some of you who've come to see this place as a haven with friends and I'm very sorry it has to go but I've kept this place going with money out of my own pocket for 10 years now and it's no longer financially viable to do so. Please understand that this is not an easy decision!

Some of you may wish to offer to help, to donate or even take on the site. Whilst I would listen to any suggestions, I will not accept donations as this would be unsustainable in the long-term. If you wanted to take on CoS, be aware that you would need to find $200 per month and to be honest with you all I'm not sure I'm prepared to let the site be taken over by anyone. I've created a thread for comments. The other staff know only as much as the above. There is no Plan B as far as they are concerned, so do not pester them for answers to questions. If they do not know, they are being totally honest.

Many thanks to everyone who for the last 10+ years have worked in one way or another on the site. All the staff, past and present who gave their time and energy to making the community work. Every single person gave their time for free and were never paid for their efforts. It was a labor of love for all.
Many thanks to the members, those who came & went and dared to stay. Every single one of you who contributed to the site, to the discussions and events. You were the ones who made the site what it became, from the all the book releases to the heated, sometimes famous debates about all sorts of topics. You made CoS what it was. So thank you.

Yes. You ought to start one. My last thread effort was a total bust. I think I'll lay off for a while.

My son has read the book, "Band of Brothers." He says it's fantastic, and keeps encouraging me to read it. But, if I spend as much time crying while reading as I did watching the series, I'll never get through it. I can't even imagine the courage all of those guys must have had to face what they did. The "Greatest Generation" is an appropriate name for them.

It's nice to find someone who appreciates the "old time" actors. The more I watch the likes of Cary Grant and Marlon Brando, the more I appreciate actors who "become" the character, not just the same character dressed up in different clothes. There are many good actors today, as well, but, with many, the only change is the name of the movie, and, maybe the costumes.... maybe.

I think Fred Astaire is the ideal of grace, style, and class. When he danced he made it look as natural as breathing. So effortless.

Do you like any of the old comedians? W.C. Fields, Little Rascals, Laurel and Hardy, Mae West? I'm a great Laurel and Hardy fan.

But, am I never going to get you to give me a nod for Barrowman? Don't you think he's even a little cute? Huh?

Yes, I feel like it's my duty to share a bit of BoB love in the CoSF. Wow, I've actually been meaning to buy the Stephen Ambrose book for a week now (I haven't any luck) and Major Winters' biography; he's one of my heroes, tbh. What E Company did was very admirable and I've got to be honest, teared up more than once as they lost limbs and lives to protect their friends and comrades. It really broke my heart to see the others not live through it (Muck, Penkala & many others).

Me too! It's been hard to find someone to bond/fangirl over Marlon Brando or my love for old movies. Haha, they always think I'm weird when I mention it. When I first saw 'On the Waterfront' (it was my first Brando film) I nearly died. He was just so... Perfect (at least to me). ♥ Cary's been one of my favorites too (Catch A Thief was insanely amazing), but Gregory Peck would always be my favoritest. What's your favorite film?

OH FRED ASTAIRE (how dare you mention him! Now I shall bore you with my ramblings, lol)! ♥ Now that man knew how to make girls swoon with just a tap of a foot. I love his films with Ginger Rogers! Unfortunately, that's one side of old Hollywood I've never embarked on. I've watched majority of Chaplin's films, but I've never seen any picture starring the actors/actresses you've mentioned! Recs and suggestions would be awesome!

my current celeb crush would have to be Robert Pattinson. Fell in love with him in Harry Potter, and was SO excited when I found out he was playing one of my favorite fictional characters! Others would be Hugh Jackman, Gerard Buttler, Sean Connery(I know he's kinda old but THAT ACCENT! *sigh*), Jason Statham.
