Voting off: 3 Is this a mango? I simply can't tell. I like the crispness of the icon but the yellow is too solid and overpowering. Perhaps a gradient fade into the branches might have corrected this? I figured out what really needed the tweaking (imo)...it's the blur combined with the yellow. Either alone would have successfully higlighted the fruit but the conbo is overwhelming.

Great work everyone! Tough judging this week!

comments:
1) Very pretty, nice and simple. Good coloring and levels work.
2) Hysterical. I might have done the red so that it was contained in the banana, but it's fine this way as well.
3) Nice color and layout. The image looks very flat though, as though you did a color layer with really high opacity over the b&w.
4) All around great. Love the layout and colors. Very balanced look. I'm jealous.
5) I like the brightness of the red. It is kind of grainy and flat. The crop could also be more interesting.
6) Nice and simple..maybe a little more contrast? It'd hard to tell how much you did with the image.
7) I love it. The crop is great, the coloring was done very well, and the text fits in just perfectly.
8) Love the Giver, maybe a bit to mushed in. I like the apple only partially colored.

I've been running around to the dentist and shopping for school stuff but I wanted to go ahead and vote:

voting off: 5 (sorry!) - I feel like there's too much in the icon and the brightness and blurriness of the red tomatoes doesn't reallly fit with the rest of the icon. Maybe a different cropping and sharper coloring would work better?

Week VI WEEK VI THEME: Newton's Laws of Motion SIZE: Avatar TECHNIQUE/RESTRICTIONS: You must represent one of the following concepts in an icon. Animation is NOT ALLOWED!! Anything else is fine... I. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. II. The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors (as indicated by their symbols being displayed in slant bold font); in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. (yeah, I don't understand this one, either...) III. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

it was kinda hard to not make it look flat because this was the original picture:

it's apparently and apricot? idk thats what the caption said.
i tried just colouring the apricot but it made the icon look really really weird. hmm, not sure:

wow...that base picture is quite remarkable. It looks almost like a finished entry already, and that green is quite astonishing! It could be that the base picture wasn't ideal to use in this case, exactly for this reason..... but in any case, I think I might have gone for just colouring in the apricot - it makes for a very clear focus of the picture.....

Like I said in the HP LIMS, I didn't have much time to do things last week and this entry was last resort. I actually tried coloring like everybody else on the table did, but with just a few minutes before I left to go do something I gave up coloring and "splashed" some yellow paint on a base I was going to color.

As I was submiting it I really thought I was going to be voted out because there wasn't much done to it as I would of liked. I was amazed to see that I had actually gotten a favorite or two.

Well... I for one don't necessarily vote for the *amount* of work done on an image. I never understand the argument 'you didn't do enough to this image'. If someone *finds* the perfect image and just adaptes them a little, why not?

Your solution was just so fresh and bold.

I made four different icons. Finally chose one and sent it in. Of course, if there's only two entries on the table this week I'm probably doomed (doomed doooooooomed DOOOOOMED! )

I had a few ideas when I first read the challenge, but so far none of them have looked halfway decent. It's been hard deciding how literal to take it because you could really interpret it in different ways I think. I'll hopefully send something in by the end of today

can't believe i actually made one. this was such a bad week. that was so hard, i'm glad i actually had time tonight i'm fairly pleased with how it turned out, it's kinda hard because i could either not make one, use my pass, know i'm safe this week, and not have any reason to stalk this thread all weekend, or make one and be nervous for the next 2+ days but satisfied that i did my best now i sound like my teachers

I wish picking out images had been so easy for me! I had no idea at all for a long time..... took me ages (and a long time of googling) to find anything that I thought might just work.... then made an image, discarded it... and searched some more. I hope what I came up with isn't too bad!
