Non-HP LIMS: FINAL WEEK!

oh wow Beatifically, that was definatly one of my favs! and i can't believe what you did from the original pic, that was really great!

i debated heavily on whether to put text or not, i really liked the simple feel of it, but i'm still not sure lol. i was really glad i got a couple favs too, thanks! umm a couple people commented that the background was too dark...? idk i don't see it but thats okay, i like hearing all the comments and critiques

not so sure about these song lyrics, i love doing lyric sigs but this is very sciency lol, i'll try my best

Thanks, that was me. I wasn't at all happy with the icon but I was just frustrated with it. Two weeks and I had basically nothing after many failed attempts. I was kind of expecting the vote off though so my heart was not broken. Science has never inspired me so maybe my creative juices never started flowing. There's always the special challenge so hopefully I can work that in. For the first time ever I've made it to the top four in HP Lims so I'm really excited about that too!

I tried making the image look like an old photograph. I wanted a border that resembled an old photo. I couldn't find any tutorial or anything so I went with a small fuzzy border.

Well I recall mentioning to Kim that people might find some of the selections strange because the theory applies in so many unique areas - and I decided to use the above, believing that it was among those things that wouldn't be questioned. - questions a plenty on how the science applied - and even more on the "error" "blur" "expansion" "stretch" on the side.

As to the principle - anything floating, gilding and even motored (like an airplane) through the air, is subject to B's principle. As graphically shown in #9, air passes rapidly over the top surface in order to meet the current beneath at the same rate on the other side. The hot air (which uses B's principle in expansion of the balloon) allows for the lift - but once airborne, the hot air balloon is subject to the winds like all other things flying through. If you take one into a gorge, the effect is even more profound - quite a wild ride can ensue depending on how close and tall the sides are.

As to the mis-shaped balloon - that was an additional showing of the principle at work. The smooth round surface of most balloons, allows for the air to pass right along over it and guiding the balloon is fairly straight forward. However, if the balloon is mis-shaped, then naturally there will be points of resistance as the air travels over the surface, and the result is it is a little more difficult to guide (again due to the principle). Just ask the poor dude guiding this one:



. That was what I was originally going to use, but I figured it would be a dead giveaway... I actually didn't realize that the mis-shaped side had come out so dark until it was posted - but in the end I was all right with the graphic. Thanks for the comments.

Congrats on the HP Lims! I got slam dunked out of that one early on, but I have been enjoying the graphics each week. Best of luck. I liked the progressive idea to your LIM and the legacy idea was kick. Looking forward to your entry in the special challenge.

The line at the top is the skyline. Behind the 'mountain' is water. I would show you the original, but my laptop decided to revert back to day 1 on April 1st and I lost all of my documents and photo files. I will search a bit on google. If I find it, I will post it.

Some said it needed more contrast but I don't think so, not for what I was trying to achieve. Anywho, looking forward to next weeks challenge! I have vacation this week so I have lots of time to work on this one! So watch out, Vita's pulling out the big graphic guns this week

Frankly I was surprised I wasn't voted out. so thanks! I'm not your normal icon maker, I don't use photoshop or anything like that (though I might after this) When I made it, I was playing around with the idea of memories, hence the grain and the tiny bit of sepia. to the pixelated text, I totally agree, that was actually done on paint, and I've noticed now everything that I do on paint then transfer seems really blurry or pixelated.

I was rather pleased with it, and I was really happy about the comments, too. I googled so many pictures for this challenge.... after some time (no idea how) I ended up googling 'wake turbulence' and found all those amazing pictures of air swirling behind airplanes (have a look, it's pretty amazing).... but none seemed entirely workable for what I wanted, so somehow I still ended up with swirly textures for the air doing its stuff following B's principle around the bird's wing.

And I deliberately used a sharp silhouette for the bird - I like contrasts like that.

Well, at least I have something together, but I think it needs another look before I can send it. I found this one really tough - probably my fault: the challenge was free enough to come up with something fairly simple, but no - of course I had to get bogged down with something that was nothing but trouble! Typical for me really.





Kim, it's highly unlikely that this happens, but if you don't hear anything at all from me in the next days, could you please assume that I am using my pass? I am off to visit some folks who usually have a good connection, but, up in the mountains as they are, you never know - and if I find the connection is down, then I couldn't actually get in touch any more!
