Just made my entry. I was originally planning something totally different, with a completely different part of lyrics, but then I saw another section and just got an even better idea. Hopefully you all like it as much as I do!!!

We ran a Last Author Standing for a long time, but interest waned. It's a bit more effort to write a story every week. Anybody who feels the urge to revive it can feel free though (or to offer up ideas that wouldn't require weekly participation). It was a fun contest but with only 2-4 a week it's hard to keep it up.

The image does not have to scream, "SCIENCE" -- it's neat to see what you can do with science-related topics that are broad in scope. As long as it meets the restrictions, I think it's probably fine.

Put it this way -- all the entries I've received so far are fantastic!

Nice table! Tricky decision, as always!

1. great image, and great handling of the dark frame around the image. The font is hard to read, but fits the style of the image very well.

2. Excellent idea, and the animation is really good - I am assuming that these are two completely different lightbulb pictures which you managed to arrange so that it looks like one bulb. Really good job, and the caption als works well.

3. This is a lovely image... I find the starry light texture a bit distracting: would have been better to make it a bit irregular and put more light dots in some part of the picture instead of distributing them evenly a bit like snowflakes. Otherwise - the colouring is rather good, especially the sea, and I really love the font you used (what is it?).

4. I like the dynamic of this, especially the 'Energy' bit of the caption. The high contrast/long exposure cityscape works well.... not quite sure about the mixed fonts here, but overall it works.

5. Nice image - and I like the washed-out colours and the frame that makes it look a bit worn out. The simple style of the caption works really well here.

6. This looks like a lot of work.... clearly a combination of many pictures.... the edges of many of the parts are a bit rough. This can be a good effect, but in that case it would have to look more deliberate than it does here. The caption is a little small, even if the font and the colouring are good.

7. Good picture, but I think this needed a little more - perhaps an extra texture to colour the sky in a more interesting way, or perhaps just a bit more contrast/saturation? The caption is too fine and pixellated - it's hard to read. I like the way the picture and the caption really work together.

8. Nice interpretation of the text - good picture. The text is placed well, but the text on the left needed to be a bit stronger to have a better impact.

9. Nice style. I love the light texture(s) used here. Might have been nice to clarify the shape of the lightbulb a bit (e.g. by just making her arms a bit darker to show a faint outline)... but these are small quibbles really. I like the way you coloured the caption - makes it legible on a very busy background and has the right look for the topic.

10. LOL! I love this as an interpretation of the text - simple and straightforward - great way of just running with the words you have.

11. I know this would be asking a lot, but it looks odd to have an animation over a picture that in itself suggests movement (the water falling over the dam) but doesn't move. The picture looks a bit washed out, too. I think the general beige colouring would have called for a different text colour - perhaps blue to match the sky or something to match the theme - the font is a bit plain, too.

Ooh great table!

1) Lovely the brown and gold color of the graphic and how the lighting just illuminates the oil rig. Its a great alternative from black and white and regular old sepia. However the text is kind of wonky. I know that font is hard to work with but especially with the "g's" you have to put then on a separate layer otherwise the spacing doesn't look good. So overall, image and coloring is good, font needs work.

2) Great animation! The color however is a little 'meh' I think I would have gone for something a little more vibrant. This orange is on the dull side. Text is ok.

3) Image coloring is nice and soft. I love the layout of this graphic. The little dots of light are a nice add too. Again, not crazy about the text but I think it fits into the general exploration motiff.

4) OOoh Energy glows Very nice! I like the alternating colors of the rest of the text too. It is placed really well on the image.

5) Beautiful colorization! I love the simplicity of this one

6) Well the image kind of creeps me out but that's beside the point! I like idea but I dont know, especially with that font if it was pulled off. The gradient coloring of the font kind of blends in a little too much.

7) Love the layout of this image. The sky offers nice framing for text. Not thrilled about text choice but better than a san serif. I would have also played with the contrast and saturation levels of this image for a richer color scheme.

8) Really nice take on the challenge. I suppose 'love' could be seen as a type of energy huh? I would have sharpened it up a bit and adjusted the levels a bit. The font (Time and Time Again) looks a little out of place on this image though. I would opted for something a little more polished (if that makes any sense )

9) Love the colors of this one The glow behind the text is a nice effect too. I would have worked a bit more on blending the b&w woman into the image but over all it looks good.

10) Ooh very cute! That's all!

11) The animation on this one is a bit slow. I would play with the saturation and contrast in this image as well. It looks kind of undone. Nice idea though

I really wish I had time to submit my entry -- I just completely ran out of time. Anyway...

1. I love the image, but the font is impossible to read for me. I only just figured out what it said after looking at it a few times. It's very distracting from everything else.

2. Very nice animation! I'm not sure I would have used the orange, however, and I think a different font would have contributed to the image better.

3. I really like this one! There is something slightly odd about the boats in the back. Where the boats meet the water it looks slightly odd, I can't tell if its the image itself or if you inserted the ships in the picture.

4. I love the color scheme in this one, and the font really fits the image!

5. Hands down my favorite. Simple yet amazing. Nice job.

6. I'm not sure how I feel about this image. It's definitely not bad by any means, just not to my liking. I wish either the font was bigger or something was done to it so that it stands out more.

7. It's a nice image, just too simple. A more elegant font could have been chosen to off-set the simplicity of the image, or the colors could have been manipulated to give the image something extra.

8. Obviously a unique interpretation of the words, but it definitely fits what you chosen. I love the word "forever" but the rest of the writing needs a bit more. Either to not be crammed in the left or a different font selection.

9. Nothing bad to say! Love the font, love the effects, love the image!

10. Simple but it works! LOVE the fonts (is that a Shrek font )!

11. I would have liked this better if there was no animation and instead different and more exciting fonts and colors, the brown on top of the brown just doesn't do the image justice.
