Looking forward to Inkheart

This forum is being created to invite comments and news from all those who, like me, are really looking forward to the film version of Inkheart and wondering if it will be good enough to make admirers of Cornelia Funke's book happy.

Although the trailer's been out for a while already, the release date has been pushed back to early 2009. It's hard to understand why it's taking so long; you can actually catch a glimpse of the Shadow in the trailer, so presumably at least some of the special effects have already been done.

In the production stills Paul Bettany looks just like how I imagined Dustfinger, who's my favorite character in the book, for the same reasons that I always found Snape the most interesting character in the HP series. Like the Snapeophile tee-shirt slogan says, "Because ambiguity is sexy!"

And then there's Helen Mirren, whom I'll forgive for being not nearly as frumpy as Elinor in the book, just because she's such a wonderful actress...

Your thoughts, fellow avid readers?

Re: Looking forward to Inkheart

Oooh, I didn't know they were making a movie version! I read Inkheart and I have Inkspell on my shelf...I'll probably read it later this summer once I'm done all my school-related books...

I just went on IMDB to look at the cast, and you're right...Paul Bettany looks good for Dustfinger. I also like Jim Broadbent as Fenoglio...looks like a good cast lineup.

Re: Looking forward to Inkheart

Can you tell me something about the book - or is it books? What age group are they aimed at? (Though from the first two posts in this thread, possibly quite a large range )

Tell me why Inkheart is such a good book, and why you hope it will be a good movie.

Inkheart

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is going to be a movie! It's with Brendan Fraser as Mo. The movie's coming out in 2009 January! I think it'll be awesome!

Re: Inkheart

I started screaming in the theater when I saw the trailer for Inkheart (it was during Golden Compass I think) since I had no idea they were making a movie. Right when the trailer came on it was something like "imagine if you could read a book and the characters come to life" and I sat up in my seat, and said "OH MY GOD...NO WAY."

I am so excited for this movie. And I'm psyched that Andy Serkis is Capricorn, he's such a fantastic actor and I know he can pull this off.

Re: Inkheart

Just saw Brandon Fraser as Mo- I like that selection! For some reason I always imagined Mo being some bald guy but I think I like the Mo from the trailer better. I hope they do a good job with Dustfinger- his acting performance could really make or break the movie.

Same here! I was in the theaters, and the commercial started, and I was like "That sounds a lot like Inkheart," and they said Dustfinger's name, I think, or some character's name and I squealed and kept saying, "It's Inkheart! It's Inkheart!"

Re: Inkheart

Looking forward for this movie, great casts, great story. Hope it will be a fabulous adaptation, but seems to me so far might follow the steps of Spiderwick? Or Narnia?

Re: Inkheart

I hope the Inkheart movie will be good. They have really found the right (at least -looking) for some of the characters - like Dustfinger. When I saw the trailer the first time, I saw someone who looked a bit familiar. I looked back, and I saw Dustfinger from my head! It's almost scary how close moviemakers can be sometimes. I hope the actors will do a great job as well.

If Inkheart gets in the cinemas here in Norway, I'll be the first one to buy tickets!

Re: Inkheart

I saw the trailer recently, and it looks to me like it will turn out to be a very good movie. I haven't read the Inkheart books, but they've been recommended to me many times, so I think I will try to read them before I see the film.

Re: Inkheart

Never heard of the book, but I saw the trailer before City of Ember and it looks great! Is that Paul Bettany as the fire-starter person? (Not sure what the character's name is?) Just wondering because I'm a big fan of his, and it's been far too long since I've seen him on-screen.

The character's name is Dustfinger, and I think the actor is Paul Bettany.

I think it will. From what we've seen in the trailer, this movie looks like it's going to be great. And, I have to admit, the HP movies are not exactly the best movies ever made (in my opinion, of course).

I have only one thing I fear about Inkheart the movie; what if the cinemas here in Norway won't show it? The book is not well known here, but if it isn't shown, the local cinema shall expect a letter from me. (They probably shake with fear now )Or maybe I'll just go to a London trip?

Meggie doesn't look like what I thought she's look like.

I love Brendan Fraser so I can't wait to see him be Mo!

Re: Inkheart

I really have no idea when this movies comes out, or if the movie is already out XD

But after Harry Potter, none of those new franchises get my interest at all, but this one, this one really gets my attention I wonder why.
I like how it looks.

I really want to see the movie so I know if I want to read the book, if I like the book so I can have a new franchise to follow after HP.

Inkheart

Who's seen it and what were your thoughts?
I saw it just last night for the first time and I found it amazing. It kept you interested through the entire thing without adding pointless action sequences or romance. They nailed every single character perfectly...which is the first film I've ever seen that has done that.
Paul Bettany was astounding as Dustfinger...Dustfinger was by far my favourite character in the books, and he's exactly the same in the movie, it's wonderful. Andy Serkis was amazing, too, as was every other actor.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Inkspell.
