Ribbet, Ribbet. The frog thread

Okay, so there's a turtle thread, a horse thread, and even an unusual pets thread. So why not frogs? Use this thread to give advice to future frog owners, share funny stories about your frogs, and basically talk about how AWESOME frogs are.

Right now, i have two Red-eyed treefrogs, one gray treefrog, and a water frog. I used to have another gray treefrog. He lived for a long time. (sorry, can't post pics right now)

Re: Ribbet, Ribbet. The frog thread

I've always wanted a frog, but they seem quite expensive with the set-up and everything. How much were yours Pigwijon?

Re: Ribbet, Ribbet. The frog thread

If you get a more common frog, and not a tropical one, it's not that expensive. My water frog, (you can get the actual frog for at the most ten dollars,) lives in my fish tank. He used to have his own setup, a medium betta aquarium. Either that, or a small fishtank. The tank was only about $25 or less, and you just need fish tank pebbles for the bottom, fake or live plants for them to hide in, and that's about it. maybe $30 or $40 altogether. And they don't require much care.

Common treefrogs aren't that expensive either, the treefrogs cost more, but it's worth it in the end, and they don't require that much special attention. If you just have one frog, then a mid-size terrarium would do. ( or, you could buy a fishtank, as long as it's big enough.) Mine ha a medium terrarium, lined with gravel, then special soil,(forgot what it's made of ) then i have a large fake plant, a shallow water dish lined with gravel, and that's about it. ( The larger ones, like the gray treefrogs eat crickets, by the way.) About $60 total.

Tropical frogs are REALLY expensive. And some of them require a lot of care. Red-eyes don't require as much care as rare frogs, like poison dart frogs, THOSE are more for experienced frog owners. ( even i don't have them yet. even though i want them ) My red-eye's setup was over $200 dollars total, including large terrarium, live moss, mini waterfall,( helps keep the humidity up), pump, heating pad, humidity gauge and thermometer, and so much supplies i can't think of all of it off the top of my head. The frogs were just $30 each, which is really cheap, compared to most stores. Some red-eyes cost over $80 each! So, altogether, maybe $300.

I started out raising frogs from tadpoles, then got into more advanced frogs.

I often get frogs in my garden. I have a habit of picking them up...

We used to get babies too so I'm wondering if this was the same one we got a few months previously

Re: Ribbet, Ribbet. The frog thread

there was a really cool frog in my yard yesterday! i think it was a treefrog, but i'm not sure. it was tan, with a couple brown spots on it's back, a pointy snout (nose?) and black cheek stripes. Got any ideas of what he was?
