Who became a ghost?

My irrational hope was that Fred would be Hogwarts' new poltergeist.

My rational thought is that this is not true. I'm not sure if poltergeists are dead souls, or merely mischeivous and chaotic creatures (which, granted, Fred was).

I agree with what everybody has been saying about Pettigrew, as well.

And, I wonder what constitutes the "well organized mind" that Dumbledore spoke of when he spoke of the "next great adventure".

Could people not become ghosts just because they didn't want to? I do think that anyone who died a fairly quick death (similiar to some of the ghosts we know of, such as Moaning Myrtle) would have a better chance at becoming a ghost than someone who died and simply didn't want to be one.

In the long run Collin Crevey would make a great ghost. Wandering the castle taking ghostly pictures. The first many years people would start crying whenever they saw him though, since they knew him alive and he was just a kid. I know I would.

I do not think we can say non are good candidates. We really do not know all the details of the others deaths and all decisions does not have to be rational.

Pettigrew could become a ghost since he did do some pretty horrible things alive as betraying James and Lily. He might have some regrets and he certainly could be foolish enough to think he could cheat death by not moving on. I do not believe that nobody would have what it takes to become ghost of those who died in the Battle of Hogwarts. Feelings have been flying high, people have betrayed, killed, tortured and worse at Hogwarts I would be surprised if not a single ghost come out of such a violent period.

I think Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew would have made fantastic ghosts...pity that they moved on, in my opinion.

Colin Creevey. Come on, who wouldn't love to see a ghost walking around with a camera?

Also, I think Lupin would haunt DADA classroom. I think he'd be the kind of ghost helping the new DADA teacher get used to things, helping students master the Patronus Charm or something like that.

Curious idea as he was a good teacher and had plenty of knowledge to impart. However, I would hope he could move on and be with Tonks, hang out with the other Marauders and Lily, and watch over Teddy from the afterlife. I think he would know Teddy would be safe and well-looked after with Andromeda and Harry as his Godfather, imo.

Myrtle - killed by the Basilik
Grey Lady - murdered by the Bloody Baron
Bloody Baron - committed suicide after killing the love of his life
Nearly Headless Nick - killed in a "botched" execution (not supposed to take that many hits).

Although, Professor Bins seems to have just never realized he was dead. I guess if you don't even realize you are dead, it's kind of hard to accept it.

Emotional state at the time of death may also play a role in whether someone becomes a ghost or not. Myrtle was in the bathroom crying after being teased and was very sad. The Grey Lady was probably a mixed bag of anger at her mother and remorse for her theft and shock at being killed by the Baron. The Bloody Baron was in intense emotional turmoil when he killed himself and who knows with Nick since he'd never divulge the reason for his beheading but he was probably an emotional mess and unwilling to go when he was killed.

Why do we know he is not a ghost? If Fred was a ghost at Hogwarts post-DH, I don't think that would help George recover better. George can't spend all his time hanging out with ghost-Fred at Hogwarts in his 20's

I can see Peter becoming a ghost, but I can't see Voldemort becoming one. I don't think he has enough soul left in him. However, if any of the Death Eaters became ghosts, the next headmaster would probably banish the from the castle. I guess some of the younger Hogwarts students who came back to fight became ghosts after they were killed.

I have a feeling a lot of the Death Eaters would have become ghosts, because I can imagine they felt similarly to Voldemort in regards to death. I also agree that Wormtail could have also become a ghost since he was pretty cowardly in dangerous situations. I don't actually think any of those fighting on the good side would have become ghosts, because I think they all accepted that they might die in the fight against Voldemort, and were not afraid to die for what they believed in.

I can"t picture Voldemort becoming a ghost. It might be possible, but I can't picture it.

Who do people think Bellatrix would have become a ghost? I don't remember her being afraid to die.

Pettigrew I could see being a ghost, but I assumed he would come out immediately after he died, and since he didn't, it looks like he went on after all.

I think Ghosts were pretty rare, and I can't really think of any known character who would decide to stay as a ghost.

I could imagine Bellatrix moving on to the afterlife in the hopes of finding Voldemort. I don't think she would want to stay with her husband, Rodolphus Lestrange.

Being a ghost doesn't always seem to be only connected with a person having a fear of death itself, although in Nearly-Headless Nick's case he spoke of his personal feelings. Professor Binns didn't seem to realise he had died and carried on going through the motions of his actions in life, as though it was unfinished business. Helena Ravenclaw and the Bloody Baron seemed to remain due to the intense turmoil they felt at the moment of death. Through his remorse The Bloody Baron chose to remain as a penance/act of atonement for his final actions in life. Perhaps Helena also didn't want to face her mother.

I cant imagine anybody in gryffindor besides neville would be able to accomplish that except maybe the creevy brothers.

Bellatrix was no chicken so she wouldnt be a ghost, she'd be more like a zombie trying to kill everybody who got in her way in her lifetime >.>

Voldemort was possible.. but as the first post said his soul was nearly gone.

That's true, but Nick might have been speaking about his own personal ideas, and the experiences he had. A lot of people fear death for various reasons. I think he meant that someone can fear death so much to the point where they choose not to discover what lies beyond and remain as a ghost, rather than face any fears however big or small they have and go on. Where as Professor Binns just seemed to carry on as though he had never died; Moaning Myrtle stayed because she wanted to teach the boy who picked on her a lesson - these sound more like unfinished business. Imo.

I don't think Bellatrix would have stayed either, but she probably knew that ghosts can't physically hurt someone. She's not fearful, except of Voldemort's wrath. I think she probably moved on, possibly to try and find him.

Yes, ghosts are rare, and honestly I don't think people come back as ghosts very often anymore. All the ghosts that have been described in the books were died 50+ years ago. Most even died 100's of years ago. I think now a days people accept death and want to move on.

i agree with ya about fred, cause he and george were always together. and what g/f started f/g finished.
if anyone wanted to become a ghost i think that would be voldemort, but he can't. so i seriously doubt that anyone became...
