I doubt it has anything to do with Twilight. There are a lot of movies coming out that time. Seriously, WB is just being greedy. They want to put the movie out next year so they can get more money since there aren't any huge films that year. I doubt it has anything to do with Twilight

One more year of discussing this movie.

Oh my why delay it? Tough thinking about it , we have no promo posters, no full trailer, just the teaser, (it's quite curious to get a teaser 8 months before the movie), probably after the test screenings they realized the movie wasn't the way it should be and they'll have to remake it, adding some things that should be in, leaving other some out, making better effects, "making Tonks and Lupin appear more", "Harry and Ginny having more moments together", "DD's funeral", i hope it really is for the movie's good and not because of the profits.

NO, the movie is DONE being made. There is nothign to add onto the movie, they are now working on Deathly Hallows, they are done with production. They're just holding it for the next year, they've said this many times.

Their positive statement is this "Well hey look, there won't be a huge gap between HBP and Deathly Hallows!"

and here I am thinking "But there is a huge gap between OoTP and HBP... and isn't Deathly Hallows being made in to two movies being released on two different dates... hrm."

A July release isn't necessarily going to attract a bigger audience than a November release.

Yes, it will. A July movie can dominate the screens till August or even September. (Like Dark Knight may!)

A November movie has until December 1st, to dominate. Why? Because in December comes the Oscar-bait movies. It's not Twilight (which will probably flop) but all the big, Oscar-grabbing movies that will dominate not just the screens but the media as people start talking about who will get what Oscar.

The summer, especially July, is usually for the big movies that may not be Oscar material. Action, horror, romcoms. Whatever. If it's not a stirring drama of a man's battle with his inner demons as portrayed by Miramax but still a big deal? It's a summer movie.

That's true. The Dark Knight is still doing really well. And next summer there will be nothing thanks to the Writer's Strike. WB knows this and is taking advantage of it.

I just wished they had announced it earlier, preferably before the trailer. I wouldn't be as excited then.

Entertainment Weekly blogs about HBP push back

The popular entertainment magazine has just made a blog post about the Half-Blood Prince push back to July 17th, 2009.

In it, they revealed that not only will Potter be on the cover of this week's issue of the magazine, but not everyone at WB was in-the-loop about the decision:

"EW and Warner Bros. share a parent company, but they clearly do not share, you know, important *******’ information.

A Warners publicist stressed that word about the rescheduling had only just come down today—which is most likely true, given that the Half-Blood teaser trailer is already in circulation. As of tomorrow, it will run with the new animated Star Wars movie, almost certainly still trumpeting a fall release date."

We're hoping that the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a new picture from Half-Blood Price, since it will be featured on the cover. We'll show you what it looks like once we get it!

Ok, I just want to know WHO I am supposed to be angry with ... it's getting pretty clear.

WHAT!????! I am so mad right now, this news has totally ruined my day, and I can't believe this! I havn't even seen the teaser yet (lousy internet connection ) but my friend told me it was awesome, and I was watching the countdown, and even though the movies are nowhere as good as the books, I was still looking forward to November! I can see WB's reasoning for wanting a summer success equal to The Dark Knight, but to put November in the teaser and then break this news weeks later is not a good way to please the fans. And the only possible competition I'm seeing for this winter is Twilight, which I don't think has much of a chance of doing as well as any movie in the HP franchise. (of course, I havn't read the books, so I may be wrong.) Plus, HP is already well established, people were looking foward to this. I don't know very much about the post-production situation, or why people would be blaming David Yates, I only know what the statement on Mugglenet said. I believe this was WB's decision, I don't blame Yates, and I hope that the delay can only mean a better quality movie.

Not only are they taking advantage of what is likely a weak summer due to the writer's strike, but they are probably also filling a gap that exists for their own studio for that same reason. They'd rather come out strong in the summer instead of the winter.

For those that think they screened it and didn't like it... it could just as easily be that they thought it was a strong enough movie that they'd rather have it in the summer. They aren't going to move a film that sucks into the summer, smack in the middle of July, even if it is HP with a built in audience. Oddly enough, it may be a good sign and an indication that there is a lot of faith in the film.

I wish they had not waited so long to announce this, though. It's more disappointing when one expects the film to be released in a few short months. If this was 6 months ago I wouldn't be so sad.

Have they actually stated that there will be less of a gap between HBP and DH part 1 then? I don't remember reading that. My worst fear is that they'll make bigger delays between all three films now. I don't think I could handle a two year or even a year long gap between the two parts of DH.

Ok so I haven't really bene on the computer these past few days because of soccer preseason.
And I go on the mugglenet home page and it's not coming out until July 17th 2009!?!?!?!?!?!?I can't believe it.........

For the studio to sit on 800 million + dollars of revenue for eight months, there has to be a powerful reason. This movie was a guaranteed money maker regardless of the release date.

I while back, when we were all wondering about the trailer, I joked that maybe something had gone terrible wrong with the processing of the film, since this has happened to other movies... now I would not be surprised if we get news of scenes being re-shot.

I was just looking at a movie release schedule for next year, and it's not totally a dead zone (although, who knew there was gong to be an A-Team movie?). Transformers 2 releases on June 26th and 2012 opens July 10th (it's supposed to be an epic). The four weeks in May feature X-men (opening against Hannah Montana), Star Trek, Terminator and Pixar's latest flick. I'm not so sure that it's a competition free zone.

I still don't know if this move is being done for strictly financial reasons. They'll have to move a lot of tickets to make up for missing the Christmas merchandising season and I bet they have to pay penalties to their licensees. Their DVD sales next year might be better though because they can release into the Christmas season then.

I still suspect that there might be issues with post-production. Maybe the CGI teams are behind schedule? This is just so late in the game to pull the plug. I just think they must have a very good reason. In any event, given the fan anger, they will probably have to try to do something to make it a tad better.

I'll still go and see it. I love Harry Potter and they have me where they want me. LOL.

That's what I'm thinking as well. It was just a few weeks ago that there were rumors going around about the teaser being delayed because they were having problems in post=production. Issues with CGI would be my first guess - particularly considering that we have yet to see any promotional images showing Dumbledore's injured hand. Even the teaser was put together so that his injured hand was not visible.

And we really can't rule out general technical difficulties either. It is possible that something happened recently - such as part of the film being damaged - that has necessitated such a delay. The more I see on this, the more it appears that there is some kind of problem and the WB is trying to downplay it and keep it quiet. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I'm getting.

Still, they have several months to work on it now. They aren't scheduled to start work on DH until February so they can use the next few months to correct whatever the problem is.

I wonder if they will still do the test screenings though? They had announced that there would be test screenings either this month or next month - I forget which.

WB seems to be getting more and more greedy lately. First they announce that DH will be split into two movies instead of just one, and no matter what reason they give for it, I still believe it's mainly about the money. Now they announce that HBP will come out next summer instead of this fall, again because they can make more money that way. Wow. I'm really not happy with them at all right now. If they had announced this much earlier, I would have been ok with it, but this is just ridiculous and also pretty cruel to do to the die-hard fans.
