I'm not impressed by the family melodrama, either. It's not as if the show was lacking another dysfunctional family.

Spoiler: show
Russell's boyfriend in Club Dead is human. Russell later marries another king.

And the actor who's Franklin Mott was Cromwell on The Tudors. He has a certain presence that works nicely for the rewritten part of Mott.

Re: True Blood

As I indicated, many of the rewrites (Tara, Lafayette, Hoyt, Godric and probably Mott) I like A LOT--but others, like Russell's chef life partner and the Magister, just ring false. I'll have to see Alcide in action before I can make a call on him. Does anyone have casting news on Debbie Pelt? Is there even supposed to be a Debbie Pelt this season?

I haven't read any casting news yet but I am sure she's in this season. Ball won't miss a chance to give us another hysterically jealous woman out to kill Sookie.

Re: True Blood

Debbie Pelt will be in this season.

For anyone who hasn't read the books, they are quite good. The last two have been disappointing, with the 9th book more of a disappointment than the 10th. But I am still invested in the series.

Re: True Blood

Why did Ms. Pelt change from a lynx to a fox--her personality and attack style fit lynx more than fox anyway. The recapper from TWOP is already drooling over what the writers will do with Claudine which I find weird since Claudine wasn't introduced at all until Dead To The World (the fourth book where we began to see slightly more of Tara). I think Claudine will be interesting, but I can't imagine her showing up this season--but then again Hotshot is already a happenin' spot--so what do I know?

Re: True Blood

That might be an interesting idea--warning, Lafayette is a pale, lonely forgotten diner cook who gets in over his head and is the victim in the inciting murder for Living Dead In Dallas (Book 2, the "inspiration" for Season 2 of True Blood).

They're mixing plot lines anyway, so it's almost to be expected that books will somewhat overlap. I have zero expectations anyway, apart from Eric being, well, as Eric as he can be.

Re: True Blood

Since Skaarsgard got that striking new haircut in Season 2, he's looked a lot more like the Eric I remember from the early books and his attitude is very entertaining and at the least close enough for government work. Pam is delicious and while I might not agree with the look, the attitude seems right. Of the DRAMATIC rewrites, I'd say my favorites at opposite ends of the spectrum are Lafayette (who is everything Book Lafayette wished he could have been) and Hoyt Fortenberry who, far from being Jason's good ol' boy pal, seems all heart and cute innocence (a great match for the new character of Jessica).

I'll be VERY interested to see who they cast as Claudine and Debbie--I just can't picture anyone striking enough (for Claudine). Any thoughts?

Re: True Blood

That's because the wig they gave him in season one was atrocious. They could have combed it every now and then at the very least. But yeah, the new haircut is definitely a big improvement.

Re: True Blood

Lara Pulver will be playing Claudine. Brit Morgan is Debbie Pelt.

Re: True Blood

Laura Pulver has ben cast and will show up this season? Hmph. I just saw the Brit Morgan thing. She must really be able to stretch. I can't imagine Dub Dub's best pal on Middleman as a festering evil lynx or fox. On the Alcide casting--pretty good. Not quite what I pictured, but I can definitely see where they were heading with it.

Re: True Blood

I had forgotten about Middleman. That is a stretch.
Spoiler: show
Hunter's been cast too. You can kind of see his name (or a corner of it) on the Stackhouse family tree.

Regarding todays episode--Meh

Spoiler: show
Only scenes with Eric, Pam, or Lafayette really worked. Jessica's scene with Franklin Mott was ok. And vamps aren't Mr. Fantastic or Plastic Man. If you twist their heads they come off.

Re: True Blood

last night's episode was a little on the dull side, i dont feel like much happened other than the opening scene. And after someone thought Lorena on fire was just a dream i thought that was the case i was surprised to see she really did get burned. I really dont like her. More Eric and more Alcide please

Re: True Blood

Spoiler: show
I didn't like how Alcide was introduced. What happened to knocking and introducing oneself? Instead he grabbed her from behind and manhandled her. Way to go, Alcide. (Incidentally, they pronounce his name wrong. It's repeatedly stated in the books that the d is silent.)

I could have done without the Tara/Franklin and Lorena/Bill scene. I really don't want to be grossed out every time anyone has sex.

Loved Pam on the phone and Eric in the graveyard!

I agree i could have done without the seemingly glamored tara, and the neck snapping

Re: True Blood

Well, the Bill/Lorena thing has reached just about the last level of disgusting (I hope). I CANNOT STAND this Jason Stackhouse moron lawman thing. Seriously, why does Hoyt put up with him? Bud's breakdown was a nice continuation from previous episodes. About the pronunciation of Alcide's name--I was always under the impression that the d was not silent because then his name is identical in pronunciation to that bent Bon Temps detective Alcee Beck (the one who shakes down other African Americans because he believes...rightly at first...that they wouldn't report him to other cops). The baseball bat wielding bouncer almost looked like their early version of Quinn casting.

We knew that Tara was glammed (partially) during her association with book-Mott, but that eye-fluttering quasi-seizure nonsense has to stop.

About the family tree, why wasn't Hunter's mother's name circled? She's still one of Sophie-Anne's current lovers in the True Blood-verse, isn't she? I assume Hunter isn't circled because no one's aware of his capacities yet.

Eric and Pam are rapidly becoming the most fun characters on the show (though some would argue they have been for at least a season). I liked their oblique references to next season during the wolf confrontation. Nice wink. The appeal of this Estonian dancer still doesn't quite feel authentic, even after seeing the dancer auditions mini-sode.

Re: True Blood

There were a couple of places in this week's episode that had me laughing out loud, one being when Jessica answered the door to Franklin and is trying to get rid of him. She says, "You don't know who you're dealing with!" and flips her fangs, whereupon he flips his fangs back at her...

I can't remember the other one... I'll have to watch again to catch it but it did have something to do with vampires.

For all of you who have not read the books... just go to the library and take them out. They are really funny at times, very enjoyable.
