I totally agree with you about Alice in Wonderland! Totally lost my respect with that one! I have to say he was beginning to lose it with Sweeney Todd, but I was holding on to the hope that he would do something great next...and then he went Disney

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way about Burton. I grew up watching Beetlejuice and Batman--two of my favorite movies, but his modern stuff is absolutely horrible, to the point where I am almost shamed to say I like him as a director. I guess I'll go down the middle and say I liked his OLDER works. Other than him, I have to say Stanley Kubrick and Dario Argento are my favorites. But Argento's post 80's is not that good, either.

Re: Your Favorite Director(s)

I am absolutely devastated about Ken Russell’s death yesterday. I watched his wonderful “Savage Messiah” and “The Boyfriend” on Saturday night and spent the whole evening discussing his genius with friends. It broke my heart today to find out he had died on Sunday and to hear he was working on a new musical adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland”. I hope Ken Russell gains the admiration in death he so deserved in life.
