If Big D got a Wizard Child...

I know JKR said that Wizarding gene would die upon contact with Vernons DNA but that doesnt stop us from speculating.

Would he be a Gryfindor? Slytherin? Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

How Would Harry React?
How Would Dudley React?
How Would Petunia React?
How Would Vernon React?

Personally I think this is a thin lead in to a small concept that Cho married a muggle and to me it seems to be Dudley is a perfect candidate.

Dear Moderators i cant seem to find my original question I asked over a year ago... I did a general search. Please delete this if you guys find the original. I searched the files i posted a long time and didnt find it... Just let me know guys.

IMO, Dudley marries a muggle girl, and has a magical daughter Lily's age. Harry and Dudley use the situation to establish more frequent contact with each other. Petunia, while not thrilled, doesn't voice any disapproval (much to Dudley's surprise; this is his biggest concern). Vernon has already passed on (his size and demeanor are tailor-made for heart problems).

The thought of having a magical realative who's directly related to him would probably trigger it!
I think that if Dudley had a magical child he wouldn't mind too much. I agree with cardinalguy, he and Harry would probably use it as a way to connect more. I like to think that if Dudders did produce magical offspring they/it would be Hufflepuff, as we saw a much softer side to Dudley in the end and if he carried on that way it might rub off on his kids.

There is already a thread which talks about what would happen if Dudley had a magical child here, it's not your original thread though.

Re: If Big D had a Wizard Child? Your thoughts?

I think having a magical grandchild would have a profound effect on Petunia. I think a lot of the hostility toward her sister and Harry was caused by her jealousy that Lily got to go to Hogwarts and she didn't, and because their parents were so proud of Lily. So she just decided to hate the whole magical world and think of them as "freaks." However, after spending most of DH in hiding with wizards, and learning more about Harry's role in the war, maybe she came to a new understanding of the magical community.

If her precious Duddykins gave her a magical grandchild, she would have to come to grips with her family's magical side, because I don't think she could bring herself to treat Dudley and his child the way she treated Harry.

When she first went into hiding, she came dangerously close to saying something nice to Harry, so I think there is hope for her. Vernon, on the other hand, will turn his usual shade of purple and die of a heart attack the first time Dudley brings a witch home for dinner. He is simply too stubborn to change his ways.

I still think the child will be a spoiled brat like Dudley was, getting everything he or she wants. I can see Dudley and his wife in Diagon Alley, buying the kid the most expensive wizard chess set (the child would be too fat to sit on a broomstick) and the nicest robes just to stop the tantrums and get home before the other wizard families saw them.

When the child gets to Hogwarts, the Potter and Weasley children would make Dudley's child a victim of all the best pranks, but not feel the least bit bad about it because he or she deserves it. (For example, they intervene when Dursley, Jr. is beating up a first year and stealing their Honeydukes money.) I see the Dursley child being similar to Crabbe or Goyle, but not really evil, just a stupid bully.

Re: If Big D had a Wizard Child? Your thoughts?

JK Rowling actually said that she considered giving Dudley a little "freak" child in the epilouge, but she decided that any magical genes would not survive contact with Uncle Vernon.

Re: If Big D had a Wizard Child? Your thoughts?

If Dudley were to have a magical child, why couldn't he marry a witch? Maybe he asked Harry to introduce him to a nice witch. He was happy with her being a witch. Then they married and had a few children. All turned out to be witches or wizards. Doesn't have to be Cho, could be another witch.

Re: If Big D had a Wizard Child? Your thoughts?

I don't really think it's possible for Big D to have a wizard child. Unless he married a witch of course, but I doubt he would. If he did though and the girl didn't tell him until after they were married I think he would divorce her. If he had a wizard child he would disown that child. I'm absolutely certain. I doubt 'Big D' would change much with the way he was raised and turned out to be.

Oh I wouldn't think Dudley would marry a witch, I think he'd still be a bit scared of them, maybe he could get over that if he had a magical child though

I was under the impression that she was joking, and therefore didn't take that comment seriously.

I'm sure the Dursleys will get a nasty shock if anything like that happens. But being brought up in an environment like the Dursleys I don't think the child will want anything to do with magic either. If he/she does end up going to Hogwarts I think Harry will be properly amused.

I quite agree. Besides, DNA simply doesn't work that way - not that I'm an expert in the field (I'm definitely not) but I know that lousy attitude alone can't kill a gene.
(Pseudo)technically, it's possible, because, say, a recessive gene could pass from Petunia's parents through Petunia, through Dudley, and into one of his children, where it could suddenly become "activated" or whatever that's called (I forget - high school biology was 29 years ago for me)
I know there's been a lot of speculation about wizarding genes here in other threads, some of them quite insightful and brilliant.

That would be a hoot. Vernon, if still alive, (good point, cardinalguy!) would be faced with the paradox of his life: his own "flesh and blood", a wizard or witch! I think even he, though, could finally come to terms with it and accept his grandchild - that'd be his saving grace.
Petunia would have a rough time of it too - she'd go through a whole 'nother bout of jealousy and the mixed emotions that would create. She was secretly jealous over her sister Lily, and now her grandchild too? Ouch!

Re: If Big D had a Wizard Child? Your thoughts?

I think the more likely possibility is if Dudley was to have a step-child who was a witch/wizard. The magic gene from his Aunt Lily would be buried pretty deep in his dna for it to come out in one of his kids.

Re: If Big D had a Wizard Child? Your thoughts?

I think that it is very possible that Dudly's kid is a wich/wizard. I hope it will be, that would be funny. In my opinion, they would not treat him/her any different. I think that they would be kind of shocked, but they would still send them to Hogwarts.

I think that he would let the child go to Hogwarts and be fine with it. I don't think he will be as close-minded as he was in the books.

Me too. He seemed more accepting of Harry in DH, I don't think he would try to repress the wizard in his child. Although I'm not sure he'd be exactly happy

I know it's not logical but I vote for Dudley and one of the Patil sisters. For some reason, I picture the adult Patils looking like Aishwarya Rai from Bride and Predjudice. Once that picture was in my head, I knew one of them would have to fall for someone unexpected, preferably with a first initial "D," although the idea of Dudley being completely surprised by having a wizard or witch child is fun, too.

I don't think he would've because JK said he wouldn't. However, in the unlikely event that it did happen I reckon Dudley would've let it go to Hogwarts - although I think he'd ask Harry and would probably agonize over it for the child's first 11 years of life.

What house do you think Dudley's "magical child" or Dudley himself would be in?
